Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lady found herself in a crowded animal control facility after her owner died and she was left outside to fend for herself.  She would have been adopted quickly as she was already spayed, housetrained and has a friendly personality.  However, Lady tested positive for heartworm and also limps from an old break in her front leg.  She gets along well but we feel a home with easy access to the outdoors with minimal steps would be the best match.  She is always ready for a walk and pulls slightly in the beginning but soon walks nicely with you.  She rides well in the car and likes everyone she meets.  Lady is currently in a foster home on the ESVA and has started her heartworm treatment which will take about 90 days.  She can be “foster to adopt” to local Eastern Shore of VA homes willing to take her for treatment in Greenbush.  She will be available to out of area adopters once treatment is complete.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 14, 2024, 7:28 am

Welcome to the super dome! Was that super or supper? Yum sign me yup for both. Extra supper please and I've got all the supers ✅✅ checked. 🦮49 pounds...handsome hunk looking for love.Hobbies:Not sure about game hunting but i loves games and hunting for treats so I guess game hunting works! Retrieving is over rated. Chase me is better play. Voted most likely to work in customer service or as a Walmart greeter. This super Lab Loves everybody! Skills:✅Super skilled at smiling -watch out for those pointy things as I say hi. My teefs can't stop. ✅Super excited to meet you. ✅Super trainable! ✅Super fine energy for all day play. 🍟Super size those fries and let's get outta here. I've got training to do and games to play and treats to hunt. I've got jumping beans packed and my lickity licks ready. Just a little help with my hocus pocus to focus and I'll be golden.....Wait I thought I was in the lab? Good as gold? You bet. That's better. Things I'm working on. ✅ Sit. yes. Got it. ❓Down? Only after a super supper and I fall over. ❓Laughing while jumping. (apparently not something hoomans like.)❓Licking enthusiastically with accidental teeth. (also not popular. )Ok I have a few manners to work on. But I really try to be a good boy. But it's hard when I'm so full of wiggles to get out. Maybe you could help me control my exploding wiggles. I know I can go from goodest to bestest boy in no time! 👍✅ animals...if they can handle my energy and smiling habits.👍❤️✅hoomans. I Will probably do better with hoomans with height so they can jump like me (recommending 12 plus years old) with the understanding that the jumping is part of his self directed exercise program right now and may need leash restrictions in the house to correct.🦮Labradors thrive in company and adore extra attention and playing games with their owners. 🦮Many Labradors are happiest when they have something to gnaw on, so dog-safe chew toys are a great investment. With TLC -training love and commitment this athlete will be your best friend to adventure with! Stop by and get your Free licks and fill out that Chico app before he picks a new best friend. You don't want to miss out on this handsome guy😎 Primary Color: Yellow Weight: 64 Age: 2yrs 5mths 3wks

Story
"Blizzy" has blown in with the recent cold front to the HSWC igloo factory. We welcome her with open paws. This delightful gal will wrap you up in a snowstorm of love. From her adorable flappy ears down to her long legs this spirited pup will make you fall in love with her before you can say snowflake. She is part Great Dane and who doesn't want to wake up each day and say "Great Dane in the morning to ya?!"Lively and fun this worker is all about quality control, making sure the igloos are made well for her outside friends. Whoever said that diamonds are a girl's best friend never owned a Great Dane! This 38 pound girly girl may look delicate but can also channel her tomboy side for some funny fun! Being part Great Dane she exhibits many breed characteristics.. once they love, they love steadily unchangingly.Great Danes are intelligent dogs who respond well to training because of their eagerness to please their owners. Because of their size and strength, it's important they are trained from an early age with plenty of positive reinforcement to stop them from pulling on the lead or jumping up.As a mix Blizzy may not get as big as some, but should still be trained to have good manners and harness some of her puppy energy and excitability. She can be found sprawled out on her office floor going over designs crunching numbers and chew bones. She can be bubbly out on walks, sputtering her range of emotions. She has some things to say to the neighbors about their barking but seems to settle down with some correction. She is a beautiful sparkling beauty queen who will add joy to your life. Primary Color: White Weight: 55 Age: 2yrs 1mths 2wks

Story
Loveable Lab BUTTERS here... As in butters-cotch, butter-on-your popcorn and butter-my-biscuit! I'm a heavenly delight. Now, don't misunderstand. I had another name before - but I'm making a fresh start and what butter way to do that than with something everyone loves... yummy me butter. Now what you need to know about me is this: I'm not bold. I'm not going to jump in your lap or jump up in your face. I'm gentle and easy squeezey I'm a bit Timid and need some help with my confidence. I need me some butter training. That will help me be my best self. I like easy pets, I'm still a bit nervous with fast movements around my hips where I can't see.I cry...but we don't know why. I miss someone -maybe my kid friend. I have been tossed all around by people. I don't know where I belong. ❤️Please help me belong with you. I need walks and to know someone is kindly in charge. I walk by dogs and cats fine and did really well with my cat test. I need to know basics like sit, down, paw. I need to learn to be my best self. I will do best in transitioning to your home to follow the two week whatchmacallit shut down. That's where we hunker down at your place and learn my new routine. (And if there's popcorn with butter even better!)No visitors to freak me out. No trips to the beach ...yikes. That's too much for me. But lots of ball playing would be great!!Just you and me. Getting to know each other. Then we will be smooth sailing. We be getting along smooth like well -you guessed it... butter! I don't mind anything right now except being alone. I'm a tall drink of water and 74 pounds of sweet sunshine! Please come and ask for Butters, I might take a few minutes to warm up, but soon I be melting your heart. *looking for a low key household* Dog Name: Pau Pau Breed: Lab Mix Sex: Male Age: 8ish Weight: 60 Medical needs: Pau Pau is a distemper survivor. The disease can cause some long-term effect like scarring of the lungs. Due to this, his breathing sounds a little rough but he doesn't require medication. Will be be running any marathons? No! But he is content with short walks. Pau also used to weigh 114 pounds and his previous foster worked hard to get him to a healthier weight, so it's important that his adopter doesn't overfeed him. The thing about Pau is that he has a bottomless stomach and a nose for culinary delights, so you will have to put your foot down and offer him healthy snacks. Housebroken: Yes Crate trained: Yes. However, Pau can be crate/barrier reactive with new people, especially men. Good in the car: Yes Good on a leash: Ok, some light pulling Energy level: Medium Need a fenced in yard: No Dog Friendly: Yes, currently fostered with 3 other dogs and gets along great with all of them If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No Cat Friendly? Unknown (can be tested) Kid Friendly: yes, he was previously fostered with young kids and is currently fostered with two teenagers. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Due to potential reactivity (and since Ive never personally observed him around younger kids) I would recommend teens Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Pau knows sit, down and is currently working on the place command. He’s the perfect example that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks and eager to learn if it involves treats. Speaking of treats…. Pau Pau came to us from Texas where he was found as a stray weighing a whooping 114 pounds After a 1.5 year diet he is now down to 60ish pounds. That being said, he acts like a 4-legged vacuum cleaner and will try to snatch food if you're not careful. We’re looking for an experienced owner since Pau can be reactive when meeting new people. Meets are best done outside with some tasty treats. Once he warmed up to you, his tail never stops wagging. Literally NEVER. Story
Dog Name: McLaren Breed: Retriever Mix Sex: Male Age: 2 years Weight: 41 lbs Medical Needs: Just completed heartworm treatment and will need follow up appointment in sixth months with Avenue Veterinarian Clinic in Milford, DE. This appointment will be covered by Grass Roots so long as adopters continue his monthly preventatives. McLaren also has hip dysplasia and some arthritis, which is managed by medication; he will need to continue this medication for life. Additionally, McLaren takes a joint supplement daily. Housebroken: Yes, occasionally will have an accident as he is extremely hesitant to go outside in bad weather, which is probably due to his injuries. Crate trained: Yes, McLaren’s crate is his safe place, his crate is in his foster’s living room, and he loves watching everyone. He sleeps in his crate and naps throughout the day. He rarely whines or barks, and when he does, a kitten is usually involved! He will also remind everyone when it's dinner time, just in case we should forget! Good in the car: McLaren was either hit by a car, or thrown from a car, but is now doing very well with riding. He may need help getting in due to his hip dysplasia, and arthritis, but once in, he will lay right down and take a little nap. He has barked at strangers at the gas station, but hey, at least no one will dare try to make off with your car with him there to defend it! Good on a leash: Yes, however, traffic makes him extremely anxious, so walking around in the yard or in a quiet area is preferred. He is slowly getting more comfortable walking along our back road in the grass, but at times still gets anxious. Energy level: McLaren has moments of zoomies, but due to his injuries, we avoid any strenuous activities. He doesn’t enjoy the rain and can be extremely hesitant to go outside if the weather is bad. Need a fenced in yard: Not necessary, but when the sun is shining, McLaren does enjoy going out in our fenced in yard to get lots of sniffing in. Dog Friendly: Yes, McLaren currently lives with 9 other dogs in his foster home ranging in age and breed/size. He does best with our older dogs who are less active. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home? It is not necessary for him to have another dog in his new home. Cat Friendly? Yes, however, our kitten loves climbing all over his crate late at night so we cover his crate so he can get some rest. Kid Friendly: McLaren has not been exposed to any children, however, older teens who understand McLaren’s needs and anxiety would be best. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 12 and up for his comfort. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? McLaren has stranger danger and needs slow, gentle introductions to new people - typically with ham or some other high-reward treat involved. Once he warms up, he is very sweet, gentle, and kind. His medical issues aside, he's a very happy boy who is looking for a family that likes tv/movie time over strenuous activities. He likes nothing better than just laying down with his foster family and getting scratches and love. Don't let those sad eyes deter you - McLaren is a handsome, young dog who truly loves his people. You'll get to see the side of him others might not, and it may take a bit of work and patience to get there, it'll all be worth it in the end. Coming to Delaware from Waco, Texas was his second chance, and he's been thrilled to make the most of it so far. With his gorgeous reddish fur and those sweet golden eyes, he'll win hearts quickly. Hopefully some of those hearts belong to the people who will give this stellar guy the life he never knew was possible. Fosters Location: Harrington, DE Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app) ##1966504##
