Story
Buddy is a 4-year-old, 80 lb Labrador mix with a big heart and lots of energy. He loves being outside, going on walks, playing, and especially anything involving water. He’s very affectionate and enjoys being close to his people. Buddy is intelligent, eager to please, and a quick learner. With structure and consistency, he has all the potential to become an incredible companion. His journey hasn’t been easy—after being adopted, his previous owner moved out of the country and couldn’t take him. He’s currently with family who care about him but aren’t able to meet his needs given their age and his size. Buddy would do best with an experienced owner who can provide time, training, and an active lifestyle. He has done well with other dogs in daycare when properly introduced. We’re committed to finding Buddy a loving, stable home where he can truly thrive.

Ready to bring the noise? Meet THUNDA! Thunda is a loving, goofy, high-energy sweetheart who’s equal parts storm and sunshine! This athletic, playful guy has a heart as big as his zoomies and a personality that lights up every room. He’s housetrained and already knows a variety of commands like sit, down, bang, up, wait, and come here—proof that he’s as smart as he is fun! Thunda absolutely loves toys, especially durable chew toys, and will happily keep himself entertained. Outside, he lives for zooming in circles, playing with toys, and chasing squirrels—his dream day is full of running, exploring, and soaking up the world around him. This enthusiastic boy is discovering just how exciting life outside the shelter can be, and his joy is truly contagious. Whether he’s barking at everything he sees on a car ride or proudly rearranging a woodpile during a snowstorm, Thunda brings energy and personality wherever he goes. If he were an object, he’d be a capacitor—full of boundless, buzzing energy! Thunda would do best in an active, adult home that can keep up with his lively spirit and continue guiding him with training and structure. Around children, he’s very excited and may jump up in his enthusiasm. If you’re ready for a loyal, affectionate companion who brings excitement, laughter, and a whole lot of personality, Thunda is ready to thunder his way into your heart! Story
Meet Momma Coco Female | Lab Mix | Estimated 4–5 Years Old We may never know the full story of what Momma Coco has been through—but her body tells us more than enough. When our rescue partner in South Carolina responded to a call about six unwanted puppies, they arrived to find not just the puppies, but their mother—tied to a tree, severely neglected, and barely surviving. One of Coco’s legs had been caught in a fence and chewed off by other dogs. Her teeth are nearly gone, and her emaciated frame shows the signs of long-term starvation. And yet, despite unimaginable hardship, Momma Coco lovingly nursed and raised six healthy puppies with extraordinary devotion. When she had almost nothing left for herself, she still gave everything she had to her babies. There was no way we were going to take her puppies and leave her behind. Coco came into our rescue shortly after, and once she joined us, we learned that she is heartworm positive. We immediately began her treatment, and she is now on the path toward healing—both physically and emotionally. Momma Coco is currently safe in a foster home where she is finally experiencing kindness, consistency, and care. As we’ve gotten to know her, we’ve learned that she thrives in a home with another dog, which helps her build confidence and feel secure. She is potty trained, incredibly sweet, and deeply loving. While she is not a fan of the crate, she is learning to tolerate it with patience and gentle guidance. What shines through most is Coco’s quiet strength, resilience, and soft, loving nature. She is a gentle soul who has endured far more than any dog should, yet still seeks connection and comfort from those around her. Momma Coco will need a home filled with patience, kindness, and understanding—a place where she can truly rest, feel safe, and finally begin a new chapter. If you’re interested in giving this incredible mama the peaceful life she has always deserved, we would love to hear from you. Apply to adopt at www.keytolionsheart.orgMarch 8, 2026, 4:13 pm

Story
Rio, 5, is a small Labrador mix (about 45 pounds). He is very playful and loyal, and he LOVES snuggles. He loves long romps through the woods and he would be a good running mate, but he doesn't require a lot of exercise right now. He's used to being around children and cats, though sometimes he wants to play with cats more than they want to play with him. He has anxiety and gets nervous/excited around other dogs, so he may need to be separated (at first?) from other dogs. We're unable to keep caring for him because a neighborhood dog attacked him, and ever since then he has been incredibly anxious in our neighborhood and home. He takes Reconcile and gabapentin for his anxiety.

Story
We are seeking a new home for our female German Shorthaired Pointer mix, born June 2020. She is spayed, healthy, and up to date on care. This is a very difficult decision, and our priority is finding the right, safe, and experienced home where she can thrive. About Her: • Well trained and knows basic commands • Crate trained and house trained • Good with other dogs and cats • Loyal, affectionate, and bonds closely with her people • Does best in a calm, structured environment What She Needs: She has resource guarding behaviors and is not compatible with children, so she must go to an adult-only home. Because of this, we are looking for an experienced dog owner who understands behavior management and is comfortable providing structure and consistency. She has many wonderful qualities and thrives with adults, but we want to be transparent to ensure the best possible match and long-term success. We are happy to provide additional details, vet records, and answer any questions.
