Hi my name is Curly and I have a great story to tell. I am a good boy that’s shy and unsure at first. People, car rides, and loud noises scare me. So I need a home that is quiet and 1-2 people at most would be best. I do great with other dogs, they bring me out of my shell. I know I’m not for everyone but I am the right one for the special person, who can work with me and go at my slow pace, who won’t get frustrated that the world is sometimes scary to me and I need time and help figuring it out. I really want to be loved and give you love, it will just take time, trust, and understanding. I am kennel trained, house trained, and like the backyard. Leash walks are not my favorite but I am working on that. Since I am scared, I like to be able to go in and out of my kennel when I am scared or just feel like it. If you want a special dog that’s not like everyone else, but will always hold a special place in your heart…. I am your boy! I have been around dogs and cats with no issues. I've also been around kids, but I prefer to keep to myself when little ones are around. I'm also crate and housetrained, neutered, heartworm negative, and have age-appropriate vaccinations! Hi, my name is Moe! If you are looking for a special dog, you are barking up the right tree! What makes me special is that life started out a little shaky for me and has left me more nervous and scared than the average dog. With time, understanding, patience, and building trust I will open up and be the best companion you could want! As the saying goes, I stick to the 3’s. I need 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks of a consistent routine and time to learn it & 3 months to start feeling at home. At first, I am more comfortable with other dogs and people really scare me, so I would do best with an outgoing friendly dog in the house to show me how to feel comfortable and confident. As time goes on, I get more used to humans but would do best in a single-person home or just a couple (too many people or a lot of children will be too much for me). I like my kennel and my safe dark space. I will come around and hang out more when I trust it is safe. I am kennel trained and working on being better with the leash. Newest update: November 2022 Becky is 8 yrs old but don’t tell her she’s looking for a retirement home because then she will tire out playing ball. her playing ball if you let her. We don’t think she has slowed down much at all, she is no couch potato! She is a beautiful 61-lb lab mix with a shiny coat and a desire for routine (and a ball!) Becky doesn’t love being crated but once she settles in we think she wouldn’t need one if she can be in a doggy proof area when you are not home. Becky is not kitty-friendly and she would prefer to live without other dogs because she likes her possessions and people to be just hers ; 0 ) If she’s out on a walk, she tolerates dogs just fine but doesn’t want to play with them. This girl can’t catch a break. She has been in and out of the rescue for far too long because of her dislike of chaos and kitties. Small children would not be a good match for Becky and frequent visitors or busy schedules are hard for her to adjust to. We think her ideal home has a fenced yard with one or two humans that don’t mind indulging her love for balls. Becky is staying with our friends at Kompletely K9 Dog Training and Rehabilitation and a new family would need to continue the training that has been set up for her so that she can be the fun and awesome girl that we know she is! Newest update: March 2024 Fiona is a sweet sweet girl who prefers life as an "only child". She is learning all kinds of good skills with our friends at Kompletely K9 Dog Training and Rehabilitation and she's ready now to find love once again. Fiona would love to get all the snuggles and have all the outdoor adventures that a sweet girl like her deserves. She is 7 years old and her DNA test was super crazy – black lab, american staffordshire terrier, greyhound, boston terrier and some other small percentages of mixed breeds. She is only 42 lbs so a perfect medium size. Fiona walks well on a leash with the right tools and will be a wonderful addition to the right family - one who has good leadership and is willing to have just one dog. A neighborhood crowded with dogs or an apartment setting would not be the best spot for Fiona, but if you want an alarm barker for your window station, Fiona is your girl! Fiona likes her crate and goes there easily with one command. She has some great obedience skills, and some of her favorite things are running around the fenced yard, curling up on the couch near (or on top of) her person, and showing off her smarts! She has a collection of sweaters because she does not love the rain and cold. Fiona never has accidents inside and will happily accompany you outside. If a new person comes in, she can be wary at first but then will check them out and eventually give kisses. She has never had aggression with humans, but has had limited access to children and we would not place her with young, fast-moving kiddos. She hasn’t met a cat but we think she has enough prey drive that she would not appreciate a feline buddy, or they would not appreciate her ; 0 ) Fiona enjoys going in the car but does better crated in the car. With good management she can tolerate being around other dogs but doesn't always appreciate sharing resources. Fiona had to come back into the rescue due to her family's changing health circumstances, and we know this sweet princess has so much love to give! Newest update: December 2024 Georgie is a beautiful one year old girl who came to us as an older pup with her mother and siblings. They all have been adopted and are doing well. Georgie has taken more time to come out of her shell and is now so comfortable with her family, you can see in the pictures that she loves the humans and dogs and their routine. Her foster mom works from home so Georgie is lucky to have very little alone time and she has a canine brother who has become her good buddy. Georgie's biggest needs will be a family that can work on building her confidence as new experiences can still a challenge for her. Georgie unfortunately gets car sick but Benadryl seems to help and we think in time, building up from short trips to good experiences will help with that. Her foster mom says, " I love how sweet and gentle she is. She has this cute little face and she has one ear the points straight out to the side and the other flops over. She loves affection. She loves a lap to bury her face in and just wants you to cuddle. I love how she sleeps on her back with her legs either tucked in or out straight, she's such a good girl!" Mocha is a middle-aged sweetheart who came to us from Puerto Rico against all odds! She is approximately 7 years old and weighs about 60 lbs but could use a few pounds of weight loss to make it easier on her joints and mobility. Mocha is listed as a "lab mix" but we know she is a fluffy mixed breed sweetheart that is 100% lovable ! Mocha was found wandering through an area where the owner of a dairy farm usually poisons any stray dog, sadly these are the stories we hear way too often. When she was rescued she had a huge growth on her shoulder and a deformed eye, we don't know what happened but after being evaluated by veterinarians she had the tumor and eye removed, thankfully the tumor was benign and she should have no long-lasting effects from either. If Mocha is with other animals she should be fed separately as she tends to be a little possessive with food. Mocha is an affectionate, sweet girl who seeks to be loved; she is comfortable with other dogs but would likely be quite content as an only dog getting all of the attention. Mocha is house-trained & crate trained. She is in her Maine foster family with another dog and doing fine but they do both want attention from their humans. We can't wait to help this sweetie find her family in Maine! Mocha would be an excellent companion for a senior owner who is still active, or a family who loves snuggles.
