Story
Meet Neo, KVHS longest resident dog!He may enjoy being the only animal in his home, but don`t let that stop you from checking him out! Neo is extremely smart and picks up on new things very quickly. He knows his name, sit, down, does well on leash, learning the start of heel, the `Find it` game with treats, and is always down to try and learn new tricks! He`s very food motivated. Neo`s ideal home would be a family who is dedicated to continuing his training, helping him with his separation anxiety, and going on walks/adventures. He deeply enjoys being outside and using his nose to sniff around, but he also loves to snuggle up on the couch under a soft blanket and nap. If he was a human he`d be like a 30 year old, still has some energy but would rather be home by 8 and asleep by 9. Neo also loves car rides and makes a great passenger for whatever adventure you take him on. (Even if your just doing a quick trip to the gas station). Neo also makes a great work partner for someone who works from home he will just nap in his bed by your desk to keep you company. Interested in meeting Neo? Swing on down with the whole family and ask about him!

Story
Bea`s name means ` bringer of happiness`. She will for sure bring nothing but happiness into your life! She walks well on a leash and loves everyone she meets. She is asking for a home without any other animals. Bea is still learning that not everything is food or in perhaps digestible. Bea`s story started at KVHS because she had unfortunately eaten something she wasn`t supposed too and led to an emergency surgery. Her ideal home would be a family that will teach her that not everything is food, Other than that, this vocal, bubbly girl is looking for her forever home! If you are interested in Bea please BRING IN ALL FAMILY MEMBERS!

Story
Do you like your dog`s snuggly with a big bark?Well meet Emery Rose! This girl LOVES to lean in for hugs and be with her favorite people! When meeting new humans, she does tend to give a bark or two but settles down quickly! Like your typical lab, her world revolves around fetch and food! She could entertain herself for hours with a chuck-it ball and is so smart she has figured out how to `Throw` the ball for herself to chase! Emery is a very smart girl who is extremely food motivated; she knows sit, her name, paw, is working on drop it and may need a refresher on leash manners. She walks well sometimes and gets excited to follow her nose the next!Emery has previously lived with cats! We think she would continue to do well in a home with them. As for kids, due to some food possession, we believe she`d do best in a home with kids over the age of 12 yrs! Now, as for dogs, Emery is looking to possibly live as an only dog. In her previous home she was known to be possessive over her things and people with the other dog. She may be willing to have dog friends outside of the home, though!Come on down with the whole family to meet Emery!**Due to limited space in available dogs, Emery in available from back dogs. Please ask a staff member to see/ meet her**

Story
Laika is officially up for adoption here in Maine! If you remember our post, she was the dog that came from the vet’s office. The office where her owner brought her to be euthanized because one of their cats was no longer with them because of her (unsure how involved she was). As a back story, she lived with 5 other dogs. She wasn’t brought out a whole lot, and based upon her behavior…no one ever spent any positive time with her. When she first arrived, she was TERRIFIED. She bolted every second there was a sound. She had a harness and super tight collar on for the first week she was with us. She cowered ALL THE TIME. Fast forward to today. She is spayed and up to date with shots. She is still very timid. She has connected with me, and looks for me. She wags the tip of her tail. She wiggles now and bounces. She looks at things instead of bolting. I can take her out with a slip lead. She cuddles. It is now time for her to have a real home. Us keeping her isn’t an option as she needs so much more than a rescue home can give her. She needs to be loved. She needs to know that there are still good people in the world. She needs someone who will walk with her or spend time in a secured yard. She needs someone that can just hang out with her, teach her. Other dogs are still touch and go. After what she has been through, it’s understandable. Because she is 2 years old, there is so much growth that can happen if someone puts the time in. Absolutely no cats, no small animals, no small dogs period. No aggression behavior towards people has been shown.

Story
Sorrel came to us with his sister Tulip after a tornado caused some pretty significant damage to our town. He was lucky and was not injured like her! Sorrel would be such an awesome dog to train! He’d be a great working dog of some sort! Here he is sitting and waiting before thresholds. While I don’t have the time to do this with every single dog, it’s always amazing when I have time to work with some of them! Sorrel is one of my favorites to train— he’s highly food and toy motivated and learns really fast! I’m NOT a professional dog trainer (as you can see his “heel” isn’t very well-placed) but any kind of basic obedience is better than none! Sorrel can be wild at times, but during our short training sessions, he is always focused and eager to please!! Story
Sharky would love a home where he can spend some time outside with his people! He would do best in a home without cats, but he’s good with other dogs and people. He would love a comfy bed for his nap time and a nice little pool in the summer! But he’s not picky, as long as he’s loved and cared for, he will give that love back tenfold!
