Finn is an energetic guy who loves to go for walks. He is also super cuddly. He’s a people dog and loves to be with his humans. Finn was raised in a home with children and another dog, but has been struggling with both, so he is currently recommended to be an only-pet in a child free home. Finn is about 65lbs and is house and crate trained.     November 13, 2024, 11:08 am

Story
Freya is a sweetheart who loves people of all ages! She's a happy, friendly girl who has grown up around children. She loves to play fetch and would definitely appreciate someone who could take her on walks from time to time. Freya has been doing well with other dogs at doggy daycare! She has a high prey drive, so she should not go to a home with cats or other small animals. Her previous owners did have her on medication for anxiety (fluoxetine). That may be something she needs to continue on, or she may be able to gradually come off of it once she's settled in with a new family, only time will tell. Like all SAAP adoptables, Freya is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and is up to date on flea and heartworm prevention. If you're interested in adding Freya to your family, please apply at adoptastray.com!December 7, 2024, 4:53 pm

Story
As an 8 year old, 70 lb, lab mix, Simon may not be a young pup anymore, but that doesn't mean he needs a loving home any less.    He came in as a stray, so we don't have anything on his background, but so far we have learned that Simon is: - Good with kids - Loves all people - Gets along with my 7 resident dogs, male and female, all sizes and ages - Would also do well as an only dog, since he really just wants to be around his people - Housebroken - Doesn't need a crate - Doesn't bark at neighbors/other dogs - UTD on vaccines - Microchipped - Just wants to snuggle and lay on the couch   As Simon is an older/bigger dog, he does have hearing loss, as well as some arthritis/hip dysplasia and takes Carprofen 2x/day. He also had a few mast cell tumors removed and, due to struggling with coming out of anesthesia for those bump removals, the current bumps are just being monitored at this time.   Simon is a wonderful dog, so I hope someone will give this sweet guy a chance and the loving home to live out his golden years as he deserves!    Apply to #AdoptSimon at www.adoptastray.com or reply to your approval email to set up a meet and greet with Simon today.  November 4, 2024, 10:45 pm

Story
Cheers came back to SAAP after being adopted as a puppy in 2015. He loves butt scratches and is house trained. Cheers really struggles with big changes in his life, so he will need a patient adopter who will give him ample time to settle into a new life - likely several months of adjustment time. Cheers takes some time to slowly build a relationship with new people. He doesn’t dislike new people, but he also doesn’t make much effort to bond in the beginning. Once he does begin to feel safe, he likes to curl up on the couch and nap near you, and he happily accepts affection. When he is feeling overwhelmed or stressed, he will bark, but that reaction does diminish significantly with time.  Cheers seems genetically predisposed to lumps and bumps. He did have one cancerous mass that was completely removed upon his return to SAAP last fall. He has quite a few other lumps that the vet has determined to be fatty masses that are not of concern. Many of his siblings have had similar diagnoses and are all doing well despite the lumps. Cheers gets easily overwhelmed by other dogs and children, and wants to go after cats, so at this time we are recommending he be adopted as an only pet to a household without kids. If you would be interested in fostering or adopting Cheers, you can apply for either option on our website!November 4, 2024, 10:45 pm

Story
Marie Curie is a beautiful, lanky black colored lab mix that weighs approximately 38lbs. She is looking for a very patient adopter as she is very timid and shy around people. We are not sure if she suffered some abuse and/or neglect. She's gaining more courage and trust in humans and her surroundings daily but this is still a work in progress! For example, when I first got her, she would dart away from me when I approach her to pet her. She acts like she wants to be loved but is nervous to surrender. So she keeps her guard up. She is starting to let me approach her without running to give her head rubs!! It’s not 100% perfect but definitely getting better! When I catch her and put her on the couch with me, she is stiff at first and then will loosen up. Marie is clean and in the crate and working hard on potty training. She is also learning how to be a dog! She is playing with her foster siblings and is very submissive with other dogs and just a genuinely sweet soul. Thus far, she just ignores the resident cat. Marie would do best in a fenced yard as she still needs to work on leash training and more socialization. She can be timid to come back in the house when I am standing at the door so I have to walk away for her to come in. She would also benefit from basic training. Lastly, given her timid nature, Marie would do best with another confident dog in the home. She does better when she can follow the lead of another dog and they can teach her the ropes.  Are you willing to teach Marie what it means to be loved? If so, submit an application. She deserves a loving forever home! In time, I know she will be the best version of herself!       November 28, 2024, 12:01 pm

Story
Lizzie Beth has started her training in her foster home. But as her foster mom, I wanted to show daily life with Lizzie. Several people have applied, but Lizzie needs a really special home. Lizzie Beth came to SAAP with her sister. Both are semi feral but mostly terrified. Lizzie Beth came to us at the end of October. Her & her sister replied too heavily on one another so to further help them, they were separated. Lizzie has warmed up to 2 people in our house of 5. She seems to rely heavily on adult women. Kids are scary and men are absolutely terrifying! But Lizzie LOVES all dogs. She has yet to find a dog she doesn’t love. Older dogs can be easily exhausted by her energy. So she’ll need a playful, younger fur buddy. She loves cats and mostly wants to sniff them and be near them. She’s truly fascinated by them. (But never harms them) Lizzie still bolts from foster mom around the house and has kept me in shape from trying to catch her. We’ve begun using cheese to get entice her (& get her to eat from my hand) and a drag leash so she’s easy to grab. I forgot to put one on before her potty break and well…Lizzie really enjoyed the snow for a while! She also has a bad habit of nibbling holes in pillow cases, blankets, socks, slippers…etc. (ask me how I know ) BUT Lizzie Beth is SO sweet and snuggly. When it’s just foster mom, she will sleep on top of me or right beside me. She loves her furry foster siblings and cuddles with them too. To summarize: if you are interested in Lizzie Beth she needs the following (as far as we know at this time, it has taken several months for her to start to open up) -older kids. Young kids are scary and their toys are tasty -preferably no men, this might change but currently her foster dad is unable to handle her in the home and she usually runs from him. (Foster dad is sad as 95% of fosters all love him instantly) -Younger, social dogs in the home okay with play. -Patience because potty training is ruff and Lizzie takes time to open up. I know this is long but let me know if you have questions!  January 13, 2025, 1:49 pm

Tucker is a sweet boy that loves every living thing he meets. He was seen limping down route 10 and before we could get to him he collapsed in the ditch. He was diagnosed with a chronic subluxation of his right hip, meaning his right hip will not stay in its socket. He will be having surgery 1/23/25 to have a pin placed to hold it in place. He will need 6-8 weeks recovery, PT, and the pin will need removed. He will be on strict cage rest and activity limitations in that time. He is only available to foster to an experienced orthopedic recovery foster at this time.

Story
Every fashionable pet owner needs an LBD -- a Little Black Dog! Sweet 20 lb. 1 year old mixed breed boy BLAINE is here to help. Darling Blaine has the most divine disposition -- sweet and playful and remarkably well-mannered for a dog who was dumped in the woods with 4 other dogs. He's a little timid in new situations and when meeting new people. He sits sweetly for treats, and when the treats aren't coming quickly enough he will "sit pretty" and it is absolutely adorable. What breed is Blaine? Well he looks like a tiny labrador retriever. He's a mixy mix boy, heaven only knows what kind of crazy mix a DNA test might reveal. We see a little lab, maybe some border collie plus some smaller breeds. Dachshund? Beagle? And 6 more breeds we can't even guess at? We hope his adopter does a DNA test because we are so curious! Blaine is a medium energy boy who would be so happy to find a home with another dog. He is housebroken, crate trained and fine with cats and other dogs. If you'd like to meet Blaine, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Blaine at our weekly adoption event, Saturday noon-2 at PetSmart Eastgate.   All of our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention. Story
Old Yeller, is that a new trend? Old stuff made NEW?? Cause I am NOT old, although I am Yeller, a really pretty YELLER COLOR!!! :) I am a Yeller Chesapeake bay retriever/ YELLER lab mix, it is important for my new family to know about the Chesapeake bay breed. We can be very stubborn, smart and independent and I really like to be in charge, so my new family needs to be strong leaders too. I am a handsome bloke, with swirls of yellow and white all through my coat. I am very smart and very sweet. I can from a high kill shelter with no hope- Now I EXUDE hope!! And LOVE!!! I WAS heartworm positive but have already finished the treatment and am NEGATIVE and just stay on prevention for the rest of my life. I am good with other dogs, but really would be best in an only dog home, cause I want all the attention :) I LOVE MY people and I tend to take "control" of my home so have to have a couple of things... 1) STRONG leadership owner, 2) I have to have an owner who will be wiling to not let me meet everyone who visits.. I want to protect my home a little too much... and 3) I have to stay in the San Antonio/TX area so my rescue friends can keep close tabs on me and how i am doing :) I have been running and playing since I am safe, but really am a couch potato. I am a bigger boy and about 65-70#. Look me up, get my number, text or call me OR just APPLY to ADOPT ME!!! I will be waiting by the phone!!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

She has a custom chair that allows her to eat in an upright position. Truffles eagerly gets into her chair as she is quite food motivated. She is intelligent, active, affectionate, and eager to please. She is ideal for an active family or individual.
