Finn is an energetic guy who loves to go for walks. He is also super cuddly. He’s a people dog and loves to be with his humans. Finn was raised in a home with children and another dog, but has been struggling with both, so he is currently recommended to be an only-pet in a child free home. Finn is about 65lbs and is house and crate trained.     November 13, 2024, 11:08 am

Story
Freya is a sweetheart who loves people of all ages! She's a happy, friendly girl who has grown up around children. She loves to play fetch and would definitely appreciate someone who could take her on walks from time to time. Freya has been doing well with other dogs at doggy daycare! She has a high prey drive, so she should not go to a home with cats or other small animals. Her previous owners did have her on medication for anxiety (fluoxetine). That may be something she needs to continue on, or she may be able to gradually come off of it once she's settled in with a new family, only time will tell. Like all SAAP adoptables, Freya is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and is up to date on flea and heartworm prevention. If you're interested in adding Freya to your family, please apply at adoptastray.com!December 7, 2024, 4:53 pm

Story
As an 8 year old, 70 lb, lab mix, Simon may not be a young pup anymore, but that doesn't mean he needs a loving home any less.    He came in as a stray, so we don't have anything on his background, but so far we have learned that Simon is: - Good with kids - Loves all people - Gets along with my 7 resident dogs, male and female, all sizes and ages - Would also do well as an only dog, since he really just wants to be around his people - Housebroken - Doesn't need a crate - Doesn't bark at neighbors/other dogs - UTD on vaccines - Microchipped - Just wants to snuggle and lay on the couch   As Simon is an older/bigger dog, he does have hearing loss, as well as some arthritis/hip dysplasia and takes Carprofen 2x/day. He also had a few mast cell tumors removed and, due to struggling with coming out of anesthesia for those bump removals, the current bumps are just being monitored at this time.   Simon is a wonderful dog, so I hope someone will give this sweet guy a chance and the loving home to live out his golden years as he deserves!    Apply to #AdoptSimon at www.adoptastray.com or reply to your approval email to set up a meet and greet with Simon today.  November 4, 2024, 10:45 pm

Story
Cheers came back to SAAP after being adopted as a puppy in 2015. He loves butt scratches and is house trained. Cheers really struggles with big changes in his life, so he will need a patient adopter who will give him ample time to settle into a new life - likely several months of adjustment time. Cheers takes some time to slowly build a relationship with new people. He doesn’t dislike new people, but he also doesn’t make much effort to bond in the beginning. Once he does begin to feel safe, he likes to curl up on the couch and nap near you, and he happily accepts affection. When he is feeling overwhelmed or stressed, he will bark, but that reaction does diminish significantly with time.  Cheers seems genetically predisposed to lumps and bumps. He did have one cancerous mass that was completely removed upon his return to SAAP last fall. He has quite a few other lumps that the vet has determined to be fatty masses that are not of concern. Many of his siblings have had similar diagnoses and are all doing well despite the lumps. Cheers gets easily overwhelmed by other dogs and children, and wants to go after cats, so at this time we are recommending he be adopted as an only pet to a household without kids. If you would be interested in fostering or adopting Cheers, you can apply for either option on our website!November 4, 2024, 10:45 pm

Story
Marie Curie is a beautiful, lanky black colored lab mix that weighs approximately 38lbs. She is looking for a very patient adopter as she is very timid and shy around people. We are not sure if she suffered some abuse and/or neglect. She's gaining more courage and trust in humans and her surroundings daily but this is still a work in progress! For example, when I first got her, she would dart away from me when I approach her to pet her. She acts like she wants to be loved but is nervous to surrender. So she keeps her guard up. She is starting to let me approach her without running to give her head rubs!! It’s not 100% perfect but definitely getting better! When I catch her and put her on the couch with me, she is stiff at first and then will loosen up. Marie is clean and in the crate and working hard on potty training. She is also learning how to be a dog! She is playing with her foster siblings and is very submissive with other dogs and just a genuinely sweet soul. Thus far, she just ignores the resident cat. Marie would do best in a fenced yard as she still needs to work on leash training and more socialization. She can be timid to come back in the house when I am standing at the door so I have to walk away for her to come in. She would also benefit from basic training. Lastly, given her timid nature, Marie would do best with another confident dog in the home. She does better when she can follow the lead of another dog and they can teach her the ropes.  Are you willing to teach Marie what it means to be loved? If so, submit an application. She deserves a loving forever home! In time, I know she will be the best version of herself!       November 28, 2024, 12:01 pm

Story
I'm hoping this description helps the profile out a bit because this was hard to describe. I work for a family with special needs and there are 13 dogs in the home . 8 of which are puppies that need to be rehomed due to overcrowding. The puppies are about 3 months old and are yellow lab Staffordshire terrier mixes there are 6 yellow lab mixes 1 brown mixed and 1 black mixed b(how odd!? Ha). If one or some of the pets are not rehomed after the holiday I fear that the older dogs in the house will start to turn on them due to resource guarding of food and water. I have called the SPCA and this profile is what they recommend me to post. I have permission from the family to do so. My cell is on the profile. Thanks again.

Story
Meet Sammy, a four-year-old bundle of love who’s looking for his forever home! Only amazing owners should apply. If you’ve been searching for a loyal and affectionate companion, he’s your guy. This super snuggly pup thrives on being close to his people, whether it’s curling up for a movie night or just sitting by your side while you read or work. Sammy is also an active and playful boy who loves to run, play, and enjoy the great outdoors. He’s especially fond of playing catch! He’s the perfect mix of a laid-back snuggle partner and an enthusiastic playmate, ready to match your mood no matter what. While Sammy has had a few challenges, he faces them with resilience and a happy heart. He experiences brief seizures about once a month, but he recovers quickly and doesn’t let it slow him down. He also has a bit of a marking habit in the house, but with patience and training—or some stylish doggy diapers—this is something that can be managed. He really is wonderful and would love you!

Please fill out an adoption application found at haydudeequine.org Dansby is in a neighboring rescue that is having a family emergency. If you are interested in adopting him, we will bring him into Hay Dude to complete the adoption. Dansby - You are the bridge between what was and what will be, my pathway to a new life! Hello...everyone!! My name is Dansby and I'm here looking for a home, a family, one to call my very own...again. You see, I had a loving home but my lil sister is allergic so with heavy hearts they are wanting me to have another home that will love me as much as they do! I am around 2 years and am very loving, affectionate and ready for playtime. My favorite thing is chasing my squeaky toy and romping around the back yard. I come in at about 45ish lbs. A pawsomely perfect medium size for those long walks, nature hikes and of course those belly rubs I absolutely adore getting. I have that innocent spirit that loves living life to the fullest, that energy that loves exploring the world around me and that playful demeanor that finds joy in everything!! Oh and guess what?! I'm both crate and house trained! We can get right to the fun stuff...right away!! I would love to have an active family that will include me in all their adventures. And I'm good with people both tall and small and other doggies! I would make a great playmate to either a 2 or 4 legged 'sibling' or a terrific sidekick as your one and only! I am so looking forward to being your BFF, your constant in this world, your heart beat at your feet!! If I sound like a perfect match for your home and lifestyle please stop scrolling and fill out my adoption application. It can be found at haydudeequine.org

Story
Old Yeller, is that a new trend? Old stuff made NEW?? Cause I am NOT old, although I am Yeller, a really pretty YELLER COLOR!!! :) I am a Yeller Chesapeake bay retriever/ YELLER lab mix, it is important for my new family to know about the Chesapeake bay breed. We can be very stubborn, smart and independent and I really like to be in charge, so my new family needs to be strong leaders too. I am a handsome bloke, with swirls of yellow and white all through my coat. I am very smart and very sweet. I can from a high kill shelter with no hope- Now I EXUDE hope!! And LOVE!!! I WAS heartworm positive but have already finished the treatment and am NEGATIVE and just stay on prevention for the rest of my life. I am good with other dogs, but really would be best in an only dog home, cause I want all the attention :) I LOVE MY people and I tend to take "control" of my home so have to have a couple of things... 1) STRONG leadership owner, 2) I have to have an owner who will be wiling to not let me meet everyone who visits.. I want to protect my home a little too much... and 3) I have to stay in the San Antonio/TX area so my rescue friends can keep close tabs on me and how i am doing :) I have been running and playing since I am safe, but really am a couch potato. I am a bigger boy and about 65-70#. Look me up, get my number, text or call me OR just APPLY to ADOPT ME!!! I will be waiting by the phone!!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

Meet Truffles! Truffles is an adorable & exuberant 7 month old puppy with huge stick up bat signal ears. When not receiving transmissions, her giant receivers crisscross atop her head. She has a custom chair that allows her to eat in an upright position. Truffles eagerly gets into her chair as she is quite food motivated. She is intelligent, active, affectionate, and eager to please. She is ideal for an active family or individual.
