Story
Meet Tyson — Your Next Loyal Best Friend 🐾 Tyson is a sweet, affectionate 4-year-old dog who truly loves being around people. Whether it’s spending time with adults, playing with kids, or simply relaxing by your side, Tyson thrives on companionship and connection. He enjoys being outdoors, playing, and then winding down with some well-earned cuddles. Tyson is both house trained and crate trained, making him an easy addition to a loving home. He also has a natural sense of awareness—he’ll alert you with a bark when someone unfamiliar approaches, but otherwise is calm and well-mannered. Tyson has been a cherished part of our family, and this decision hasn’t been easy. Due to our special needs child developing a fear of animals, we are looking for a new home where Tyson can continue to receive the love and attention he deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who’s great with people and ready to be part of your family, Tyson may be the perfect fit.

Story
Meet D-O-G: The 4.5-Year-Old Legend They say you can’t have it all, but then there’s D-O-G. He’s spent his four and a half years mastering the art of being the "perfect mix." Whether you're looking for a chaotic goofball to make you laugh or a soulful companion to share a quiet moment with, he’s already clocked in for duty. The Great Outdoorsman 🌲 If you have a tent and a sleeping bag, D-O-G is already in the car. He is the ultimate camping buddy. He loves the smell of the pines, the crunch of the trail, and—most importantly—being the self-appointed "Safety Officer" of the campfire. He’s got the energy for a day of exploring, but he’s just as happy to curl up at your feet while you roast marshmallows. The Professional Cuddler 🛋️ When the sun goes down, the "Chaotic Goofball" retires and the "Cuddle Buddy" takes over. D-O-G doesn't just like humans; he thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread. He has a PhD in lap-warming and will happily melt into your side for a movie m

Story
Meet Lady! Lady is a 12 year old Lab/Shepherd mix. Lady needs a very competent and experienced owner, one that has had experience in handling GSD/Malinois/Belgain Shepherds before. She would make a great Police Dog as she has a strong desire to be a pack leader and a high prey drive, and would do well with training and having a 'job.' Lady needs to be an only animal home and is not recommended for a home with children! If you are interested in making Lady a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org   LADY'S ADOPTION FEE IS $160 The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    April 20, 2026, 11:41 am

Story
Meet Melanie! This 7 year old Lab mix is full of energy! She is a very sweet girl that is looking for that forever family that is active, who can take on walks, do training and help her burn her energy! She would prefer a fenced yard where she can play ball, or a dog park to run!   WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT MELANIE COMES WITH FREE TRAINING WITH ROSIE DANE DOG TRAINING! Thanks to the Pedigree Foundation, we are able to work with the trainers at Rosie Dane Dog Training to pay for a 10 week Novice Training course once adopted. More details available upon request! If you would like to make this sweet girl a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org.  MELANIE'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs.
