Story
My name is Sylient and I am a black labrador retriever. I am a spayed female and I am 4 years and 11 months old. I was given up by my previous owner because they became homeless. They were my family for my whole life. I am used to staying inside during the day and inside during the night. I am potty trained. I am a medium energy dog and I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience. The shelter staff is not sure if I am used to being crated during the day. I am great about walking nicely on leash. I would do well with simple obedience training to help us bond and for us to learn how to communicate with each other. I do not have a history of trying to escape the home or yard, but the shelter staff always recommends owners be mindful that I do not accidentally get out a door or escape the yard. I would like a standard height fence to help keep me inside the yard. I can be good with men, women, and children. I can be good with other dogs, and I can be good with cats. All dogs are tested for heartworms and given flea preventatives. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Dogs are vaccinated against distemper, rabies, and bordetella, spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption.

Story
Confident.Friendly.Super Smart Girl! Just a few words used by Roni's foster to describe this cute little blonde shell! Roni is a one-year-old (date of birth 1/19/24) Lab/Golden Retriever mix. She is a small girl weighing in at 64 lbs. She became a GRRoIowa pup because her previous family had allergies. She is in a loving foster home and her foster is ready to start looking for Roni's forever home. Loves her kennel and sleeps in it all night without any issues; goes in on her own when asked. She does pretty well on walks but does need some improvement. Roni is very motivated by treats which makes training her even easier! What her forever home needs to look like: Children: ADORES the foster's children and is very good with them. She truly enjoys their company. Dogs: The foster does not have other dogs in the home. A meet and greet with a family member's male dog was done and she got along great. If she is in the yard or on walks, she doesn't get bothered by seeing other dogs so it is likely she will do fine with them. She did live with dogs in her prior home. Cats: Unknown as there are no cats in the foster home nor her previous home. Roni shows no prey drive in the yard or on walks. Fence: A physical fence is preferred, but if a potential adopter has a solid plan in place for keeping her safe the foster will consider it. Energy Level: She is a puppy so there is that energy, but she will settle down. The ideal forever home for Roni would have respectful kids in the home, an active lifestyle, and someone who is committed to attending training classes. She wants to be right in on the activities, but not obnoxious about it. Submit your adoption application today to be considered for Roni! https://grroiowa.org/adoption-information/

Story
Lexi will be two years old in April. We adopted her from the ARL when she was 2 months old. She is a very sweet dog and great with kids. We have 3 girls (currently 7, 9, and 11) and she interacts very well with them. She is high energy and loves to play. She goes to dog parks regularly and enjoys playing with dogs. She is playful and not at all aggressive. We work outside the home and she stays well in a kennel during the day. Due to a divorce and change in living arrangements, we are no longer able to keep her so hoping to find a loving and caring home.

Story
Rowena is a 9-10 year old lab mix (we did a DNA test and it came back lab/chow/golden retriever/pointer and several others) - about 60 lbs. She is house/kennel trained, and definitely wants to learn how to dog! She was found in 2019 living in a wood pile in Oklahoma protecting her puppies, so has some trauma there that needs worked through and a dedicated adopter will do so much for her. She needs a very structured living environment and a strong dog-savvy owner. She loves to be outside so would enjoy a nice physically fenced yard (no invisible fencing with her history, sorry). Privacy fencing will be preferred as she guards her territory. She will not do well in an apartment setting since she has a fear of strangers and needs muzzled on walks in strange places. She has been through heartworm treatment and will require an adopter who will keep her on preventatives and regular testing. She does well with dogs as long as they aren't tiny/can't be mistaken for squirrels or rabbits. She chases cats. She is food protective with other dogs, so will need to be fed separate / in kennel as a precaution. Once she is comfortable with you, she likes to snuggle and give kisses and hugs -- but it may take a few weeks for her to warm up fully. No kids for Roe -- fast movements and small creatures with her don't mix. Her adoption fee is $250. If you have an easy-going and patient lifestyle that will give this girl the structure she needs and are interested in meeting Rowena, please put an application in at www.foreverhomedogs.org and we will set up a meet with you!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Story
Sky is estimated to be about a 3 year old 40ish lb lab mix who was found as a stray in Texas with a bullet above her wrist in fall of 2024. Once the bullet was removed, she was sent to us where she was in a split for a couple weeks to try to help her leg heal, but ultimately the vets decided amputation was best. We can’t believe how well she is getting along on three legs! She loves going for walks, car rides and being near her people. She is your typical lab, very playful and energetic at times (you would never know she was missing a limb) and then she crashes and likes to nap on blankets and the couch. She is kennel trained and has not had accidents in the house while kept on a consistent schedule. She has done well with other dogs of all sizes, and is learning to be around cats. She is very smart and trainable. A fenced yard would be ideal for her since it can be difficult to keep a harness on her with one front leg.Sky does need a few minutes to warm up to humans, she’s timid at first but then she will love you. She would probably do best with older kids in the home as quick movements can sometimes make her nervous. She can be vocal so we are suggesting a place without shared walls - or someone who can handle some barking. She would benefit from basic training and she deserves the best home where people will show her love and attention she deserves. Sky's adoption fee is $250 - apply at www.foreverhomedogs.org to meet her!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label.
