Story
Hi, I`m Summer Thayer! I was found abandoned in a shed with my puppies fending for ourselves. Because there wasn`t a way for us to get out and get food, I taught myself how to parkour and am now known as an escape artist. I may be smaller sized lab mix, but I can get some air! I make fast friends with everyone I meet, and would love for a home that will let me be a spoiled princess. I would need to be the only pet in the home as I am not a big fan of other dogs or cats. My energy could be a lot for little kids and could scare them, but older children may feel comfortable with my energy. Due to my dislike of other dogs, and my jumping abilities, I will need a 6-foot privacy fence in my forever home.I am very smart and love to learn for some good treats or some wonderful pets. I keep my kennel clean and walk well on a leash. One of my favorite hobbies is tearing up a stuffy and sitting with my favorite volunteers. I really would just love a home where I could be near my people. If you are interested in getting to know more or would like to schedule a time to meet me, please fill out an application on the website or use the `Contact Us` tab to talk to one of my friends!Information on me might change as the staff and volunteers get to know me more :)xoxo, Summer!

Story
Hi there! My name is Delores,!I am a 9-year-old, medium-sized lab mix that was trying my best to survive living in the forest before AHeinz57 came and rescued me. Living in the forest was not easy for me, so my hard start to life has made me slow to trust people and leery of other dogs, but I have learned a lot since I arrived. The volunteers have described me as shy, sweet, and cautious, but when I see people I know, my tail wags with excitement! I have learned to take treats gently from hands, but I am still hesitant to be petted. I even allowed some of the volunteers to brush me and change my collar, which were big steps that were not so easy for me! I even love fluffy beds and keep my kennel clean. One thing is for sure is that the shelter life is so much better than the forest, but I would still love to be in a home to call my own!Since being here at the shelter, I not only do well with my buddy Howard and have grown closer enough to play with him in the yard, but I have also learned to play nicely with other dogs and may even do well with another dog in the home. Although I have not lived in a home with another dog, it may be a little difficult at first to find the right routine, but as long as I have proper and slow introductions to them, we can learn to get along. I would do best in an adult home since kids are too noisy and loud for me, as I can get scared easily. It will take multiple meetings with me and even then, I might not be the most social, but I promise to love you forgiving me a chance. I do require a fully fenced in yard as it will help keep me safe and secure from wandering away. With the fence being a requirement, an apartment or townhome would not work well for me, but I appreciate the thought of wishing me luck in finding the perfect home for me! Now that the majority of my pack have since been adopted, I hear the volunteers talk about how all of them are doing well in their homes, and how they wish the same for me and my buddy Howard. I would love the opportunity for a quiet, patient, and consistent home that will let me grow at my own pace but will also show me the perks of house living! All of us forest dogs have our little quirks, but that is what makes us special. If you are interested in scheduling a time to meet with me or would like to know more information about me, please fill out an adoption application.Until then, I will be waiting for you and the chance to have a home to call my own.

Story
Hi, I`m Fenmore! I was found in an abandoned shed with my girlfriend (Summer Thayer) and her puppies. Because there wasn`t a way for us to get out and get to food, I taught myself how to parkour and I am now known as an escape artist. With my jumping abilities and my high energy, I’m apparently seen as a flight risk, so a fenced in yard is not required for me. I am a bit of a chatter box, so a home with shared walls may not be the best fit for me.Although I can be a little more energetic, I also like to chill out if given a little attention and love. When volunteers come to hang out with me, I usually give them a big hug to show how much I care for them! When I make new friends, I give them hugs too!In playgroups, I’ve loved to play with other dogs and have been in the rough and rowdy group, but I will need a proper introduction to any furry friends in your home as well as humans to make sure that we all get along! I make fast friends, but sometimes my energy could be a lot for little kids and can scare them, but older children may feel most comfortable with my energy. I have not met a cat since my time here at AHeinz57, but I bet the volunteers or employees here would be happy to test me with a feline to see if I will like them or if I would consider them more like a fun interactive toy.If you would like to know more information or would like to schedule a time to meet with me, complete an application on the website or call the rescue to talk with one of my friends!

Story
Meet Demi!Demi is a 6-year-old Retriever /Lab Mix that weighs about 40-pounds at full growth!Demi is known as our resident `Fly Girl`! She has a sweet personality, gorgeous brown eyes, a silky dark coat, a shorter stature with a medium built frame, and who is amazingly athletic! She would love to find someone loves the outdoors, loves to go on hikes or adventures, and who loves playing in streams or ponds when she has a chance! Her favorite pastime, of course, is playing catch! You can bounce the ball, toss it, throw it, and Demi will be right there to catch it or even leap for it. Can you tell she REALLY likes fetch?!Demi`s ideal match would be an active person or couple who likes to go on adventures and spend time outdoors. While kids and dogs are cute, for her they are much cuter from a distance and are too much for her to be around, so a home without resident or visiting children and other dogs would be best suited for her. She would love to be your only sidekick! Because of her activity level and her not getting along well with other dogs, she would need to have a home with a fenced in yard, so she can race around in the safety of her own home and of course, play ball with you! Demi is quite smart and knows lots of basic commands such as `sit`, `shake`, `lay down`, and `stay`. With her being treat motivated, teaching her new tricks should be a breeze, especially if you have Banana as that is her most favorite treat! She is also housetrained and quite the lady in a home. Demi would love to show you the kind of cuddle expert she can be and if given the opportunity to be on the couch at the end of the day, it would be her number one requirement. Demi is ready to find her forever family. If you are interested in knowing more about Demi, please fill out an adoption application or call to schedule a time to meet with her! Some information may change overtime, as we get to know her better.

Story
Well, hello there! My name is Howard!I am a medium-sized lab mix that was found in Stephen’s State Forest with my pack, trying our best to survive in the wild. I am around 42 pounds at full growth, so I am just the right size for laps. When we were found, the people at AHeinz57 caught me, brought me to the shelter, and had people to take their time to help me and love me. Now, I have learned so much since arriving here! After consistency and patience, I now enjoy getting pets and brushed by the people I trust. I have learned to take treats nicely from the volunteers and do a great job not making any messes in my kennel! I have become brave enough, with the help of my best buddies, to go on walks outside of the shelter, as long as I get time to investigate! I even have new nicknames that I go by such as `Howie` or `How How`, and because of my friends here at the shelter, I never knew how good an ear scratch was until I got one for the first time, and let me tell you, it was the best feeling in the world! The volunteers have been so excited at my progress, and they love watching me learn to love them back! Now for the home I am looking for! Because of my background, I will need a fenced yard, so apartments and townhomes will not be the best fit. New things can still be scary to me and a fence will help keep me safe and feel the most protected. Quick movements and loud noises can also make me feel pretty nervous, so children living in the home or frequently visiting would not be the best fit for me. I have learned to play with other dogs, as well as my pack mates (Delores), but I will still need proper introductions with other dogs to make sure it`s the right fit. Please remember that I have only known the forest and shelter life, so sharing an inside space with another dog may be difficult at first, but with some guidance and consistency, I could learn to do well.My best buddy, and friends at the shelter, have hopes of me finding a home where I can enjoy the good life and just sit and contemplate the world with people that I love, because most of my other forest friends have been adopted and have done wonderful in these types of homes! I dream that one day I will get my chance too. If you are willing to come and take a chance on me, as other adopters have done with dogs from my pack, I promise I will be worth the time and patience it takes to meet with me! Until then, I will wait for you to come to meet me. If you would like to
