Story
Meet Kennedy. Maybe you could tell in her eyes in her photos that she is a very frightened girl, to say the least. Kennedy is a dog who has been through some extreme trauma. We do not know all of the things that happened to her, but what we do know is the following: Kennedy was on the run for quite some time. Months maybe. A good Samaritan spotted her running and a full scale operation began with a private group of amazing volunteers that were determined to bring her to safety. Her first flyer was posted 10/28/24. She was loose prior to that date. She was lived trapped and brought to safety on 12/16/24, making her "on the run" for a minimum of 8 weeks. During that time, game trail cameras and volunteers caught this brave girl dodging traffic, scavenge for food and shelter, and defending herself against packs of coyotes. She is safe with us now, but she is still extremely frightened and will need a home without small children and an owner who is committed to keeping her appropriately contained with a VERY long decompression period for her to acclimate to her new person and home. She does great with other animals and would benefit from a friendly, confident dog to help her adjust and trust humans. She is somewhere around 2 years old (ish, our best estimate), and seems to be semi-house trained but not 100% due to her level of fear and anxiety at the shelter. She should be walked/handled on a martingale collar and double leashed (one on a harness or a different collar, one on the martingale) to prevent escape since she is an extreme flight risk. A very secure fenced yard would be beneficial once she is acclimated to the space and her people -- especially with housetraining, as she tends to not want to potty outdoors when on a leash.. She will not be an "easy" or "beginner" dog, but we believe someone will be very lucky to have her after some work and time. She bonds strongly with her people and wants to be where they are. Her adoption fee is $150 and she is now spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm negative. Please call 630-553-9256 or email animalcontrol@Kendallcountyil.gov or stop by during our open business hours to meet her.

Story
Arthur is just over a year old. He is a lovable goofball and would do best in an active family household, preferably with another dog so he could have a friend! He tolerates car rides (he gets anxious), but with the right training and pawsitive re-enforcement he could enjoy them. He loves going to the dog park and day care - they are his favorite places to go as he just loves to be outside and around other people and dogs. He knows several tricks such as spin, rollover, backup, switch, speak and is very food-motivated so he is always eager to learn more! One of his favorite playtime activities is being pulled across the floor/ground with his toys. He grew up with cats and does well with other dogs, but due to his Coonhound ancestry, cats and other small animals should be introduced slowly. Included in the adoption fee would be most of his toys, leftover treats, his crate + comforter, and other various dog items.

Story
Astro here! Or, as my foster parents call me, Good Boy.  I am a very affectionate, medium energy, 5yr old, 30 lb mix.  While I get along just fine with other dogs, I really am more interested in people than other dogs. It takes me a bit to trust strangers but then I like to give humans lots and lots of kisses  I love my fuzzy squeaky toys and playing tug. One of my favorite things to do is roll around upside down in sheets, pillows and blankets.  I love getting butt and back scratches and will verbalize adorable little grunts when you hit the right spot.  My humans say I am adorable.   I am also a good guard dog and will bark when someone comes to the front door. I would love a home with a fenced-in back yard where I could run around and chase the squirrels. I also like chasing cats, so a cat free home is best for me! I'm working on some basics like "sit", "stay" and how to walk well on a leash. I have a little bit of anxiety (who wouldn't with my sad past?) but, with a regular schedule, I do just fine.  I would love to meet you, take a walk, and kiss you as you give me scratches! If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Story
L’il Momma is a sweet and loving 2-year-old lab mix who is ready to find her forever family. Weighing about 40 pounds, she’s the perfect size for cuddling on the couch or joining you on adventures. She has a wonderful mix of energy and calmness—she loves to play but is just as happy chilling by your side. This smart girl already knows some basic commands like sit and stay and is eager to please her humans. She bonds deeply with people but can be a little wary of some men. L’il Momma needs a patient family who will take things slowly and help her regain her trust. After spending too much time in the shelter, she deserves all the love and security a home can offer. Story
Barbie is a fuzzy bundle of smart & cute & sweet all rolled into one! She loves all of the people that enter her foster home and is quick to offer kisses as well as accept hugs & pets! Barbie is great with the resident dog at her foster home, with whom she loves to run, play or snuggle. Cats make her curious & interested and she’s gentle & sweet when they hang around long enough for her to make contact. Barbie is working hard on potty training and she sleeps quietly, enclosed in the laundry room in her foster home, at night and when her foster family is away. Although we have little background and cannot guarantee the breed make up of our rescue pups, our best guess is that Barbie may be a Lab and/or Golden mix, based only on her appearance and physical features. If you think that Barbie would be a wonderful addition to your family, have fallen under the spell of her sweet gaze and are unable to control the urge to reach out and hug her… pleased complete our Adoption Application at https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application.
