Story
Meet Elliot. We are guessing he is a 2 year old Australian shepherd/lab mix with maybe some hound or even Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. No matter his breed he is 100% good boy! He is a great size at 50 pounds. Elliot came into the shelter as a stray. He can be nervous in new situations so an adult only home or one with older children would be ideal. As he gains trust in his people his personality really starts showing. He is a goofy boy who loves to be near his humans. He would do well in an active house and may even thrive in dog sports like agility. He is still learning proper manners like not to jump on people or play nip. He also does not understand the concept of personal space. We are working on these. Elliot is slowly learning about toys and how to play with them, instead on hands. Elliot does well on leash. He can pull some, especially when seeing another dog or critter, but does better when using a no pull harness. He rides well in the car so may make a great adventure buddy! He is a great mix of active and snuggle bug. Once he gets his energy out he loves nothing more than to nap on the couch by his person. He does really enjoy running around in his fenced in yard. He has been having a blast in all the snow! Elliot had some marking in the house when he first came home, but he has been doing great with potty training since then. We do try to let him out more frequently when we are home, but he can go for 6-7 hours while we work. He is crated at night and when we are not home. He whines a bit, but does seem to settle down. Elliot is currently living with 2 smaller dogs. He overall is doing very well with them. He can be a little possessive with food and treats so feeding separately is recommended. Otherwise he loves to play with his foster brother and torment his foster sister. He can be a little over bearing, and doesn’t seem to understand when the other dogs have had enough. We do not know about cats. Elliot is going to be a great companion. If you would like to meet this dog, please call Annie at 815-685-0746. The adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Titan is a 8 year old black lab mix. He weighs 95 pounds still has plenty of energy, loves to go on walks . He has been with other dogs in the past, but would do best in a home without other dogs. He hasn’t had much kid experience but has been put through a lodge and learn program. He is pretty well trained and 100% housebroken. He was crated as a pup, but no longer needs it. When guests come, he loves to grab a toy to greet them. He would make a great companion possible veteran dog. Owners are moving out of state, so he needs to be re-homed. His adoption fee is $150. If you would like to meet Titan, please call Teri at 630-897-7454.

Story
Meet Lulu a 6-7 year old lab/hound mix. Lulu was surrendered by her owner who was 91 and could no longer care for her. Unfortunately for Lulu, she has not lead a very healthy life until now. Lulu has callouses on her sitting bones from sitting so much and she had to loose multiple teeth due to them being broken. It seems like she may have been chewing on a crate or chain because all of her canine teeth were broke and had to be removed. This will not cause her any problems eating but once healed her tongue may pop out. She came thru surgery like a champ. Lulu also had scabs on her back end from itching, probably fleas. They are all cleared and with good food her skin is already feeling much better and she is itching much less. Lulu is extremely people and food motivated. She is learning not to jump on people and slowly learning that paws on the counter are a no-no. Lulu loves her people so much and would be in a lap all the time to get pets if she could. Her belly is her favorite. Lulu does sleep in bed with her foster mom and has to be touching her at all times. She is slowly learning how to run in the yard with the other resident dog. Lulu is house broken if kept on a schedule. She gets crated when her foster mom goes to work. She has earned up to 6 hours free in the house when her foster mom goes to run errands. She is older so she does not chew on the furniture or things she should not. Lulu has not had much time on a leash, and she has to be part hound so her nose is always to the ground and she pulls a bit. She has a medium energy level and could use good long walks daily. Lulu has jumped a 4 foot fence to get to her foster mom so if a fenced in yard will be her only exercise she will need a 6 foot fence. Lulu is so loving and cuddly. She has gotten along with all of the dogs who have been in the house and got along with the small dogs at the adoption events but since there are no cats in her home it is unsure how she is with them. Lulu is a great gal and has been spayed and up to date on all her immunizations and is microchipped and had a dental. Please call if you would like to meet her.If you would like to meet this dog, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. The adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Meet Banana Phone — The Shy Guy With the Biggest Heart (and Even Bigger Zoomies!) Say hello to Banana Phone, a male mixed-breed mystery (seriously — your guess is as good as ours!) with a gentle soul and a playful spirit just waiting for the right family to bring it fully to life. He came here all the way from Texas with two of his siblings and was born on 8/17/2025. He currently weighs 15lbs, but is growing very quickly! Banana can be a little shy at first, but once he decides you’re his person, he transforms into a wiggly, toy-delivering ball of joy. If your hand is empty, don’t worry — he’ll fix that. Toy delivery is his love language. He already knows how to sit, is working on potty training and learning “lay,” and is a quick learner who’s happily treat motivated (the fastest path to his heart is definitely edible). He’s a talented little fetch player… though he believes the “give it back” part is optional. Banana’s favorite thing in the world is laying in warm sun spots, followed closely by zooming around the yard like a happy little comet. He adores kids, plays well with other dogs, and will make an amazing companion dog — the kind who follows you from room to room just to be close. He hasn’t been tested with cats or small animals yet, but his lovable nature gives him tons of potential. If you’re searching for a loyal buddy with a sweet heart, a playful streak, and the cutest mix of shy and energetic, Banana Phone is ready to dial into your life. Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping. In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.
