Story
Hello!  My name is Adam. I am an affectionate, sweet and playful, medium energy, 3yr old, 28lb lab/hound mix. I like to sleep with my humans or on the floor in my own dog bed, I like both equally. I can entertain myself but I love being around other dogs. I love my fuzzy squeaky toys and can be heard playing with them in the living room all by myself. One of my favorite things to do is roll around upside down in sheets, pillows and blankets. My humans say I am adorable. Food is my favorite thing in the world, and might possibly be my love language. My foster mom and dad often call me a “good boy.” I will sit at their feet in a dog bed if they are working or next to them on the couch if they are reading or watching a movie. I love getting butt and back scratches and will verbalize adorable little grunts when you hit the right spot. Did I say I loved food? I am fostered with two small dogs (25lbs), one medium sized dog (30lbs), and one adult cat (let’s not forget the one human teenager). I get along well with the dogs but am still trying to figure out how to join the three of them in their dog play. I was not sure about the cat when I first got here but we are now ok with each other. I am learning to walk on a leash but could use some additional training. I am very friendly toward humans, even those I don't know. Did I say I love a good scratch? I love getting them even from strangers. I give good kisses but not excessively. I am also a good guard dog and will bark when someone comes to the front door. I would love a home with a fenced-in back yard where I could run around and chase the squirrels.  Are you my new family? I would love to meet you, take a walk, and sit with you as you give me scratches! If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . L’il Momma is a sweet and loving 2-year-old lab mix who is ready to find her forever family. Weighing about 40 pounds, she’s the perfect size for cuddling on the couch or joining you on adventures. Story
Meet Jax: your next best buddy with a heart as big as his paws! This 2-year-old scruffy superstar is like a big puppy at heart—playful, goofy, and full of love. With his dashing good looks and a personality that lights up any room, Jax is ready to be the life of your home. Jax is super smart and already knows his basic commands (did someone say “sit” or “paw”?). He’s also a certified tail-wagger who loves to chase after toys, explore new adventures, and show off his zoomies. But don’t let his energy fool you—when playtime is over, he’s all about curling up for some quality snuggles (bonus points if belly rubs are involved). This big teddy bear loves to play rough, so he’s best suited for a home with kids aged 12 and up who can match his fun-loving style. He also needs to be the only dog in the house—Jax wants all the love to himself! A fenced yard is a must to keep this energetic guy safe while he gets his zoomies on, and he’ll thrive with an experienced adopter who understands his big-puppy ways. If you’re ready for a loyal sidekick who’s equal parts fun and love, Jax can’t wait to meet you! Fill out that adoption application and let the adventures begin! Jax's adoption fee is $350 which includes being fully vetted, neutered, microchipped and fecal exam. Note: All dogs require a $100 cash training deposit. Once confirmation of the completion of a training class has been sent to the rescue, you will receive your deposit back in full. It’s critical our pups are set up for success long term along with their adopters.

Story
Meet Kennedy. Maybe you could tell in her eyes in her photos that she is a very frightened girl, to say the least. Kennedy is a dog who has been through some extreme trauma. We do not know all of the things that happened to her, but what we do know is the following: Kennedy was on the run for quite some time. Months maybe. A good Samaritan spotted her running and a full scale operation began with a private group of amazing volunteers that were determined to bring her to safety. Her first flyer was posted 10/28/24. She was loose prior to that date. She was lived trapped and brought to safety on 12/16/24, making her "on the run" for a minimum of 8 weeks. During that time, game trail cameras and volunteers caught this brave girl dodging traffic, scavenge for food and shelter, and defending herself against packs of coyotes. She is safe with us now, but she is still extremely frightened and will need a home without small children and an owner who is committed to keeping her appropriately contained with a VERY long decompression period for her to acclimate to her new person and home. She does great with other animals and would benefit from a friendly, confident dog to help her adjust and trust humans. She is somewhere around 2 years old (ish, our best estimate), and seems to be semi-house trained but not 100% due to her level of fear and anxiety at the shelter. She should be walked/handled on a martingale collar and double leashed (one on a harness or a different collar, one on the martingale) to prevent escape since she is an extreme flight risk. A very secure fenced yard would be beneficial once she is acclimated to the space and her people -- especially with housetraining, as she tends to not want to potty outdoors when on a leash.. She will not be an "easy" or "beginner" dog, but we believe someone will be very lucky to have her after some work and time. She bonds strongly with her people and wants to be where they are. Her adoption fee is $150 and she is now spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm negative. Please call 630-553-9256 or email animalcontrol@Kendallcountyil.gov or stop by during our open business hours to meet her.
