Slurpee is a young guy (born in late 2024) who would love a home with someone who can work with him and help him feel safe. He has lived with other dogs and would do best in an adult-only home because he sometimes has stranger-danger confusion and can be protective of his human. He had to come back to PAWS from his adoptive home after a few months because he was guarding his human too zealously and feeling the need to protect the owner from his/her friends and strangers alike. Our shelter trainer MarLee has been working with Slurpee, and would like to work with his new foster/adopter and Slurpee to help him master the skills he needs to safely transition into a new home. He is a work-in-progress, but, we feel hopeful he can find his best fit. If you are open to a happy, loyal young guy who is still learning, and you are open to working with our trainer (at no cost to you), we would love to talk to you about Slurpee. Our plan would be for you to foster him first, which would give you time to train with MarLee and make sure Slurpee is the right fit for you.

I found Ham on the side of the road in Arkansas while visiting my family. He was darting around near the highway and almost got hit by a car, so my sister and I pulled over and got him into the truck with some left over chicken. He was a very sweet dog, but anxious. I tried to take him to shelters in the area, but they were not accepting any animals “especially black dogs”. I decided to drive him home to Atlanta and take him to the Atlanta humane Society, but after he met my dog, they got along so I thought we might keep him as he was so anxious, and my dog gave him confidence. I was a dog trainer for several years and knew he had the potential to be a great dog if someone put the work into him. Shortly after this I found out I was pregnant and I haven’t had energy or time since to put toward him. It’s been almost 3 years and he is still untrained and pushed to the side. It pains me to see him desperate for attention and I’m unable to give it to him. He deserves to be someone’s baby.

This beautiful girl had a tragic start when, at just a few weeks old, she and her siblings became part of a court case in which their owners were charged with severe abuse and neglect. In April 2023, Hazel and two of her siblings came into my care as foster babies. Since then, she has blossomed in a happy and safe environment, surrounded by her brother and sister. Hazel is 2 years old, weighs approximately 50 pounds and has been spayed. She is up to date on all vaccinations and is heartworm negative. She is crate trained & housebroken. Hazel is an obedient girl and she knows basic commands such as Sit, Wait, Treat, Walk and Get In. She sleeps 8 hours a night in her crate and never makes a peep. She plays well with her canine siblings and other dogs she knows. She has medium energy, walks well on a leash and loves to take walks around the neighborhood. Hazel loves people that she knows, but she needs time to warm up to new people. She is a timid girl and likes to take things slowly. She is food motivated which makes her easier to train. She loves to chase squirrels, so a watchful eye is needed. She has never been tested with cats. She would love a fenced backyard because she loves to run and play with the ball. If she runs in the yard for 10-15 mins then she’ll curl up and sleep. If she doesn’t have a yard, she would do fine with a couple 1.5-2 mile walks per day with additional pee breaks throughout the day. Hazel would thrive as an only dog or with a compatible canine companion. Her main need is for loving people. She loves to sit close to you while you’re working or watching TV. Hazel has shown incredible strength despite her difficult beginnings.
