ABOUT ROCKY Grab the tissues...this boy is sure to melt your heart! Rocky came to HAP from a high-intake shelter partner in Alabama as a neglect case. When Rocky arrived, he was covered in mange and flea dermatitis, so bad that he was full of scabs and had hardly any fur left. He was also so emaciated, to the point his excess skin rolls blended with his ribs. Despite being in such poor condition, he was determined to live life to the fullest! In Alabama, he was placed in a loving foster home to help him heal. He learned what it felt like to be truly loved for the first time. As he began to put on weight, he began to feel energized and his personality blossomed! He is affectionate and playful with his human pals. Rocky loves playing with other dogs and has been a rockstar in doggy playgroups. He gets along well with everyone, though he has a hard time keeping up with hyper puppies after a while. Although Rocky's hair may never fully grow back, he doesn't notice he's any different from any of the other dogs! He is so goofy and loves his stuffed animals! You can usually find him holding his favorite extra large yellow duck stuffed toy, which he sleeps with and carries everywhere. He never tears his toys, rather he treats them like his prized possessions! Rocky is a special boy who loves love. Understandably, he has his reservations with new people but warms up quickly when he realizes he is safe! He has such a kind heart for what the world has thrown him. Would you give him a chance? Rocky has participated in our Doggy Day Out program too! Here's what some volunteers had to say about him: "First doggy day out today! I took out rocky. He is an old man but is young at heart. He loved meeting everyone he came across on our long walk through campus, and put his head on peoples laps during class. The professor even let us out 10 minutes early so everyone could meet him! He was a bundle of joy. He was a little skittish around cars and loud noises but overall a very good boy :) made sure to keep him hydrated with lots of water today throughout the heat." "Rocky is the best. He is such a love  just wants to give and receive love. He's my best buddy. He's a ladies man! I just love him so much. He's gets excited when he first gets attention and will show you his stuffed animals. They are his best friends and he carries them around and protects them. If he likes you he will push them into you to share with you. At least he always did with me. Then calms down and is medium energy. Walk well on a leash and keeps his kennel very clean!" If you are interested in Rocky, you are welcome to submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is first-come, best-match basis. We are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in a specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come for the meeting to ensure it is a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animal's spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

ABOUT CHAPO Chapo is about 1.5 years old and so full of life! Chapo came to HAP when his owners sadly abandoned him. He has been overlooked at the shelter for his energy, as this pup loves having a task to do! Chapo is a Labrador Retriever and he could not be more accurate to the breed, he LOVES to retrieve! He has impressed our staff and volunteers with his fetch skills, bringing the ball right back and dropping it at your feet everytime. After some playtime, he is sure to melt into you for some love! Chapo is well-socialized with people, being gentle and respectful when making new friends. While he may do some tippy-tap jumps, he is careful not to jump up onto you. Chapo also already knows basic commands, such as ‘drop-it’, ‘sit’, ‘paw’, ‘stay’, and ‘come’. He is food and toy motivated to learn, making the possibilities endless! Chapo hasn’t had proper introductions with dogs yet, though he is indifferent to most passing by when he’s outside. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! ABOUT JOEY This handsome boy is our lab mix, Joey! He came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Georgia when they no longer had space for him. Joey is the true definition of a velcro pup, as he loves being close to you and spending time with people. He loves to snuggle and is quick to paw at you when he thinks he deserves more pets. He enjoys long walks or tossing stuffed toys around our fenced fields. Joey walks well on a leash, staying right by your side most of the time and easily redirecting his focus back to you! He also knows basic commands and is eager to please his people. While Joey hasn't met any young kids yet, we think he'd do well with older children who can handle a dog his size! Joey has participated in our Doggy Day Out program and here's what the volunteer had to say about him: "He was very happy to get outside but was apprehensive about riding in the car. After reassuring and lifting him into the back seat he laid down and cozied up to me for some good boy pets and reassurance. He laid his head on my leg most of the ride. Once he became comfortable we immediately saw his happy go lucky personality come out. After a walk on the bike trail we took him to a local dog friendly establishment where he was a bit timid at first but quickly let his smiley personality show. After becoming more comfortable he greeted people who wanted to meet him but was still timid and shy. His handsome black coat and smile really caught people's attention and he had many compliments on them as well as his well-mannered behavior. He wanted to sit on the bench right beside us to be a part of the conversation and did! We gladly gave him hugs and some loving and he seemed to really enjoy it. He took his treats very gently. He ate his dog food nicely there as well. He enjoyed playing with the other dogs present and can be talkative at them making noises while he is playing. Joey was such a good boy out in public and quickly became comfortable letting his true personality shine through. He enjoyed finding sticks to chew up outside. With some reassurance and warming up to his person he will become the best dog he can be. His loving, timid personality will warm your heart. I think he would really shine with a doggy sibling and/or a patient adopter/family to expose him to new experiences, play time and some nice hikes or walks. I can't say enough about how well behaved he was out in public. On the ride back to the shelter he laid his head on my lap!" If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! ABOUT TIKO This handsome gentleman is a 10-year-old black lab looking for a home to live out his golden years! Tiko came to HAP when his owners could no longer care for him. He swiftly went into a temporary foster home, to avoid stressing him out at the shelter. Here's what his foster has to say about him: "Tiko is an absolute sweetheart. He is a big couch potato, but also loves neighborhood walks & playing in the yard with his foster dog brothers! Tiko is house-trained and has amazing manners. He loves his memory foam dog bed, but not as much as the couch! When Tiko first arrived, he was noticeably very sad and confused. With being surrendered as a senior dog, he was definitely in shock and we did everything we could to reassure him he’s safe and loved. It didn’t take long for him to warm up and find joy and comfort in our home. Tiko has such a big heart and he will be an amazing companion to his forever family! He also loves to “parade” around the house when someone comes over. He picks a favorite toy and proudly parades around the house wagging his big tail! Very happy go lucky boy!" You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ADOPTION PENDING --- Please note: Our beautiful Joy does require a 6-foot wood or vinyl fence, no chain-link or split rail.    Meet Joy, my lovely, sweet, loving girl Joy Her 'Meet Your Match' designation is: Teacher’s Pet -   I’ve got the whole package — smart, four legs, love to learn, and live to please. Go ahead, teach me anything. Sit, stay, and balance your checkbook, I can do it all. Keep me entertained and I’ll be yours forever.    Joy lives up to her name as she is always joyful, so very happy that now she lives with people who love her & now she feels safe. She had litter after litter in WV & I would say her previous life was that of pure neglect. She is about young & about 60 lbs (she's gained 10 lbs since she joined the rescue) & I have her listed as a Lab/Antalion Sheperd mix. Her coat has so many shades of gold & yellow, she is really stunning, expecially in the sun!    When it comes to people, she's indiscriminate with her affection. Joy doesn't believe in strangers, she's ready to shower everyone with love. I love how when you are close, she leans into you gently, offering a soulful gaze of absolute adoration. She is also very intelligent, it seems that when I look at her sometimes I can see her thinking!    This tall, lanky and I think very regal looking young lady is a bundle of love wrapped in a desire for attention. With her keen senses, she thoroughly enjoys walks where she can indulge in the various scents around her. Her trust, which is quickly earned, is as solid as a rock, and with it, she's game to explore and try out anything.   If you're looking for a loyal companion who looks at you like you're the center of her universe and is eager to be a part of every adventure, then Joy is the young girl for you! Don't miss a chance to make Joy a part of your family. Read our adoption requirements & if you can meet them you can apply for her right here at our website. Come & meet her and get ready to be greeted with boundless enthusiasm and love!       We accept Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, and All Credit Cards for the adoption fee.      About LNF Dogs/Puppies: All dogs and puppies have undergone temperament testing. *My adoption fee has been sponsored by a FFAS supporter!* Hi-ya! I'm Scrappy! Little, cute, and the best sidekick, just like my namesake! I came to the shelter when my family wasn't able to take care of me anymore and I must say - it's a big change from a cozy home to a shelter kennel. I'm one and a half years old and 49 pounds! I hope that my new family has a love for big, goofy boys, because that's what I'll be when I grow up! I love playing with other social and active dogs, so if you have a canine sibling, that would be ideal! I would love a patient family who is willing to help me learn all of my best boy manners as I grow up - could that be you? I would love to start the journey out of the shelter and into my true, forever, happily ever after!    Have Room in Your Home? Welcoming in a pet saves your new pet's life and creates space for another pet to get a chance! Not sure if Scrappy would be the best fit for you? Send in a generic app! Our team will work with you to find a pet to best fit your lifestyle! You will go home with a starter bag of food, one month of flea and heartworm prevention, and also have 90 DAYS of training help included with your adoption, if needed! Story
Adoptable Charlie Girl is a 10 month old, mixed breed beauty (fully grown at ~60lbs) that runs as fast as a bullet and gives great big paw 🐾 hugs 🤗 This happy-go-lucky family dog adapts well to change. She loves attention and to please her people! Long walks, chewing bones, and stuffies are a few of her favorite things. Speaking of stuffies, Charlie sometimes mixes up other fun things to chew with her stuffies, so keep anything stuffed of sentimental value out of reach … for now. Charlie is submissive to her male dog foster brothers but has been known to be an Alpha pup with female dogs and is very smart. She redirects very well if you tell her no though she'll usually go back and give it one more try! She’s curious about her kitty foster brothers, but again, "Charlie No" is all she needs to leave them alone. She can sit, touch, and come with positive reinforcement. She has also been known to catch birds out of the air but will drop then easily if directed to do so. She loves ALL treats, but her favorites are Wag More Meatball bites, Old Mother Hubbard Wellness snacks, and bones, bones, bones. Charlie is spayed, up to date on shots & microchipped. Think this pumpkin 🎃 would do well in your patch!?!

These pups are in Wilmington, Delaware too!

Despite being in the shelter after living in a home, she has remained a lover girl. Zelda enjoys meeting new people and is very friendly. When she's not snuggled up with someone, you can usually find her curled up on her bed enjoying a long nap. Zelda also enjoys going for long walks and playing with stuffs. Zelda already knows basic commands, walks well on a leash, and is very eager to please. She has done well meeting other dogs, though she prefers calm, gentle doggy friends best! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
We'll also keep you updated on Stinkbug's adoption status with email updates.

Story
This friend has just arrived to us on transport from a high-intake shelter partner! When our friends are new to us, we are often unsure of their full background. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and update their bio with more information as we learn. They are pending interactions with animals until they have been cleared by our vet. Please note that we often are unsure of house, crate, car, and leash training status upon arrival. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Story
Meet Scar. Originally was found wandering the streets of Philadelphia earlier this year. Decided to take him in. He’s fun, loving, energetic, friendly and great with children. An ideal adpoter would be someone who has time, care and patience to work with scar. He’s already potty trained so we’re just looking for a suitable home.
