ABOUT APPLEJACK Applejack is a 6-month-old lab mix looking for his forever home! AppleJack came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for him. He has some reservations about life in the shelter but thrives with other dogs. We think he would do best in a home with a current resident dog to help show him the ropes and build his confidence because as soon as he's around another dog, he completely changes and his playful personality comes out! Applejack does really well on the leash but sometimes pulls back or lays down when he gets nervous. It takes a little bit for him to warm up to his humans but when he does, he's happy to lay beside you and soak up all the love! We're sure that with a little bit of patience and a lot of love and reassurance, Applejack will grow into an incredible dog ready to take on the world! Applejack has participated in both our Doggy Day Out and Foster programs! Here's what two volunteers have to say about him: "Applejack was the best boy for the few days he hung out with my family and our five dogs! I've been by the shelter several times to walk Applejack so he was familiar with me but still looked for other dogs for guidance. I had to pick him up to get him in the car but he was great once we started driving and laid down for the entire trip. We spent several hours at a local brewery, where he made a few doggy friends and even let two new people say hello to him- he was very brave! Afterwards, he came home with me for a few days where he was an excellent house guest! He hasn't had any accidents and he's slept through the night in his crate! One of Apple's favorite things since he's been at my house is running around out back with all my dogs! He really is a dog's dog and will happily prance around and chase anyone who wants to play! He definitely needs a patient person that will give him the time and reassurance to feel comfortable and confident but once he does, he really is just such a good boy!" "Applejack is wondering why he has no interest. He is such a sweet pup, he LOVES other dogs of ALL sizes, and would likely do well with cats and other types of animals. Milo is an 8-year-old, 74 lb, Labrador who came to us after his owner passed away. He was missing his person and in need of a new family to love. Milo received a dental and had two benign masses removed. He is fully housebroken and has good vision and hearing. Milo does have arthritis and takes medications to help with stiffness. A home with few stairs would be ideal. Don’t let him fool you though; this pup has no trouble chasing after squirrels. Milo loves being outside, going for walks, and exploring the backyard. He would do well in a family with gentle, dog savvy children or an adult-only home. Milo gets along well with dogs and cats, is crate-trained, and sleeps in a dog bed. He isn’t a fan of loud noises and likes a bit of chicken mixed in with his food. Milo’s foster describes him as a love that just wants to be loved. This adorable pup is not just super cute and cuddly, but also incredibly affectionate. Silky's favorite activity is snuggling up on the couch with his people, making him the perfect companion for cozy movie nights or lazy afternoons. While Silky loves his indoor cuddle sessions, he's also a big fan of the great outdoors. He enjoys running and romping around, and would really thrive playing fetch in a yard. He has made significant progress with his leash training. At first he was a big puller but after a few weeks of training, Silky now knows to check-in and will loop around and come back to the heel position if the leash is taut. Adoptable Charlie Girl is a 10 month old, mixed breed beauty (fully grown at ~60lbs) that runs as fast as a bullet and gives great big paw 🐾 hugs 🤗 This happy-go-lucky family dog adapts well to change. She loves attention and to please her people! Long walks, chewing bones, and stuffies are a few of her favorite things. Speaking of stuffies, Charlie sometimes mixes up other fun things to chew with her stuffies, so keep anything stuffed of sentimental value out of reach … for now. Charlie is submissive to her male dog foster brothers but has been known to be an Alpha pup with female dogs and is very smart. She redirects very well if you tell her no though she'll usually go back and give it one more try! She’s curious about her kitty foster brothers, but again, "Charlie No" is all she needs to leave them alone. She can sit, touch, and come with positive reinforcement. She has also been known to catch birds out of the air but will drop then easily if directed to do so. She loves ALL treats, but her favorites are Wag More Meatball bites, Old Mother Hubbard Wellness snacks, and bones, bones, bones. Charlie is spayed, up to date on shots & microchipped.
