Meet Opal – The Sweetest Companion! Opal is a 2-3-year-old mixed breed with the most adorable smile and a heart full of love. She’s currently living with her foster family, who can’t stop raving about how incredibly sweet and gentle she is. One of Opal’s best qualities? Opal gets along wonderfully with other dogs (she currently shares her home with three!) and absolutely adores kids, making her a fantastic family dog. When she’s not playing or exploring, Opal loves nothing more than snuggling up with her favorite humans. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion, Opal is ready to be your perfect match. Story
Gaze into Canelo's soulful eyes, and you'll find your heart stolen! This 1.5-year-old charmer is as sweet as they come—social, easygoing, and oh-so-happy. Canelo loves life’s simple joys: walks, playing with his beloved stuffie toys, chasing tennis balls, and chewing on sturdy rubber toys. Of course, cuddle breaks are always welcome! He enjoys playing with other dogs and greets new people with joyful enthusiasm. Canelo is already working on his leash skills and is nearly fully crate- and house-trained. Motivated by food, love, and toys, he knows commands like “sit,” “down,” and “off,” and he’s eager to learn more—especially if treats are involved! A Special Boy Looking for a Special Family Canelo has chronic bronchitis, which occasionally causes coughing and requires cough medicine to help him sleep at night and antibiotics when he has flare-ups. While his condition means he has some not-so-great days, his resilience and zest for life shine through. Canelo is looking for a loving family who will provide the care and support he needs to enjoy life to the fullest. If you’re ready to open your heart to this special boy, Canelo promises to fill your days with love, joy, and tail wags!   Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. Story
Lilah  believes in living life LARGE! At a fit 49 pounds, this sweet 3-year-old former puppy mama LOVES being wherever her foster mom is, by her side during the day, doing somersaults at her feet for belly rubs, and then sleeping under the covers with her at night. As active as she is affectionate,  Lilah  also loves going for walks and on hikes, improving her leash skills daily, playing with other dogs and chasing rabbits and squirrels in the backyard. Highly motivated by food and highly intelligent, she especially enjoys getting food from puzzle games, excels at “sit,” “lie down,” “touch and “treats,” and because she LOVES to train, is always eager to learn as many tricks as possible. Not to mention the fact that she loves to wear clothes, as her foster mom discovered during the cold snap! Content inside her crate with a bully stick or a Kong, she much prefers being left uncrated to stare out the window from the couch, and is almost fully house-trained. Now  Lilah  hopes to share her bountiful love with active and adoring adopters who will complete her training, including her commands, and ensure that her enviable energy is well spent fur-ever. Story
Mini puts the “M” into marvelous! At an agile 40 pounds and still growing, this 9-month-old beauty is a beguiling blend of affectionate and active. An avowed people pleaser, easygoing and friendly, she loves being loved on, petted, snuggled and cuddled by her foster mom and lying on top of her as much and as often as possible. She also loves resting her head on her, rolling over for belly rubs, doing the ranger crawl and then prancing perkily about. Astonishingly athletic, Mini not only LOVES to run, she has the graceful gait of a greyhound, and at the dog park, she’s the swiftest dog there. Thriving on two hours of exercise a day, she engages enthusiastically with other equally energetic dogs, and especially enjoys going for long walks, walking wonderfully on leash. Making friends of everyone she meets, Mini’s favorite toys are tug-o-war toys, her favorite treats are hot dogs and she’s highly motivated by food and by love. Being very bright and easy to teach, she already knows “come,” “sit,” “stay,” “down” and “no,” is more comfortable now on car rides, and is crate trained and almost fully house-trained. Only just starting life’s loving journey, Mini will make any adoring adoptive home the happiest of homes (perhaps with another playful dog) provided they complete her training, including her commands, and ensure that she’s kept satisfyingly active fur-ever. Disco was found in San Antonio Texas, he was seeking refuge in bushes to stay out of the dreadful summer weather in Texas. He is super sweet! He loves to play with toys! He is high energy and still has puppy behavior. He would make the perfect dog for anyone who enjoys being active. The best part is that we have never heard him bark! No need to wear earmuffs around this sweet boy!  ##1855627##

Story
Scout was owner surrendered to ACS in San Antonio and was a staff favourite because of her sweet demeanor!   Scout just finished up heartworm treatment. Scout loves a good walk as a new Colorado girl experiencing her very first winter! She loves a good treat and to have her face wrinkles played with. Scout is fearful of other dogs and is working on it but currently prefers to be an only dog.   "Hi there! I'm Scout! If you are looking for a dog that is adorable and is always by your side, I'm your dog! I'll stick to you like velcro. If you work from home I'll be your foot warmer sometimes and check on you to make sure you are still there. I'm very well mannered in the home. I do best in my kennel when you are away. I can have a lot of energy but I contain it to walks most of the time. I can be stubborn on walks but that is because I know the best way to go. I really really don't like cats and raccoons, but who does? I have barked at other dogs but my foster is working at making it not happen anymore. You'll have my heart faster than I eat my food. Some of my favorite things are food, treats, my kong, food scraps, walks, food, and more treats... I just really like food! If you are looking for a best friend, someone to help you get your steps in, clean up any scraps of food, or someone to blame farts on, I'm your dog!" - Scout Scout has already made the journey to Colorado and is being fostered in Park Hill Denver. ##2242835##

Story
Erin was just pulled from the euthanasia list at ACS in San Antonio. This sweet girl didn't deserve to be there and she's one of the lucky ones to get a chance to be a Colorado dog. Erin was owner surrendered to ACS with three other dogs due to owner inability to sterilize/separate pets resulting in litter. We will need time to understand more about her outside the stressful shelter environment, but the shelter notes indicated while a shy pup at first, she quickly opens up with a few treats and head scratches. Once you warm her up, she loves attention, standing up and placing her paws onto you awaiting more head scratches and love, the perfect companion for those wanting a loving cuddle buddy. A loving dog who's positively adorable, give her some treats and love and she will love to come home with you and enjoy your attention. She was friendly with staff by coming over for treats and affection with a loose, wiggly body and a wagging tail. She played with her kennel mate. We can't wait to see this girl blossom and come into her own. More to come! Erin has made the journey up from San Antonio, Texas, and is being fostered in Denver, Colorado. This girl has received a second chance and is ready for her best life in your furever home- just say yes! ##2265190##

Can't decide if you want a Boxer or a Golden Retriever? Well, look no more - we have solved your problem! We are Golden Boxers. Our momma was a Golden Retriever and our dad was a Boxer. We didn't get our momma's golden color (we are all black with some goldenish tints) but, no worries - we will still have friendly nature of the Golden and the goofiness of the Boxer. You can't go wrong with this mix. We are still pretty young, but we will be able to go to homes after Wednesday, February 19. We can be pre-adopted in the meantime, so hurry on to complete an adoption application so you won't miss our on me!We are also named for essential oils - that is because we have these great effects on the people around us: 1) boosting mood, 2) aiding weight loss (walk, anyone?), 3) boosting energy levels, 4) some even say we have anti-aging effects, and, of course 5) aphrodiasiac  . . . aren't you in love with me already? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2264383##
