Story
HI - I'M CHARM! I'm a sweet and playful 1-year-old Lab-Boxer mix in need of a foster or forever home! I was rescued from an overcrowded California shelter, and originally came from a hoarding case. I'm a happy girl who loves people and other dogs. I weigh only about 50 lbs and would make a great dog for an active single person, a couple or a family with older kids. I would do well with another dog in the home. Please email for an application.

Story
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM HOLT! Holt is a 2-year-old Black Lab mix in need of a foster or forever home! He is a good, happy boy who is full of life, and still a puppy at heart. He is dog friendly, people friendly and affectionate! He is loyal, gentle and smart! While he loves companionship, he also can be independent and dignified. Holt needs an active person or people as he's quite athletic and will benefit from regular exercise, such as walks, hikes or runs. He pulls a bit on a leash but is easily corrected. He is a sweet boy, and weighs between 65 and 70 lbs approximately. Please email for an application. He deserves a home for the holidays!

Story
WOOF - MEET TEAK! Teak is a young and energetic red lab/pit mix in need of a foster or forever home! On paper he's 2 years old, but we think he's just a pup, around 1 to 1-1/2. Teak is an 80-pound happy boy who will benefit from some basic training and commands. He's a smart learner, and he needs someone who would love to help him transform into the best dog ever! He is learning slowly to walk on a leash, as nobody ever taught him before, so would do well with someone who has a backyard and room to run, while he gets up to speed. Teak was rescued from an overcrowded California shelter, and was one lucky boy to get saved. He's a handsome dog with a gorgeous red coat, and is always happy to see his person. He would also do well with an active person or people who can take him for hikes and other outings. Please email for an application.

Story
MEET HOWIE! This happy, gentle lab/pit mix is a loverboy! Howie is 5 years young and has a heart full of love to give. He was rescued from a California shelter in very rough shape - he had major skin issues/hair loss and had clearly been neglected, but now he looks so much better! He's appreciative of love and attention and is a very affectionate boy. He's a big snuggler and will want to share your bed. He loves going for walks and other outings. He is good with some dogs but not others, so would probably thrive as the only dog in the home, or with a submissive female. He's been waiting a long time for his own home, and we're hoping 2025 is his year! Howie currently needs a foster or forever home. Please email for an application.

Story
HI - I'M MACY! I'm a sweet and happy 6-year-old chocolate-and-white Labrador-Pit, mix, possibly with some Aussie thrown in. I have been waiting for two years for a home and am wondering why nobody wants me? I was rescued from a high-kill shelter where I had kennel mates! Now that I'm out, I like some dogs better than others, but would do best either as an only dog or possibly with a friendly male. I'm still very active, and so would love to be with a person or people who go for walks, hikes or other outings. I love the water and car rides and am a happy girl. I weigh about 50 lbs. Can you open your home to me? Please email for an application.

Story
Weight ~ 50 lbsCaprice is one of our dogs transported up from LA and she has a serious underemployment issue. She`s looking for a job in the herding, agility, scent work, dock diving, or flyball areas. She just wants to use those smarts she was born with, and also get her ya-yas out. When she`s not organizing your garage or balancing your checkbook, she just wants to hang out with you and watch Jeopardy, or veg out to a good rom-com. If you want a smart dog that`s also fun and sweet, call our adoptions desk or stop by during Browsing Hours: Wed-Sun 11-5.

Story
I was the luckiest guy on the planet in early May 2020 when I showed up to a Texan animal shelter and found a confused, doe eyed angel, only officially up for adoption for about an hour, looking back at me. His origin story is unknown to me, and his age was predicted to be "about four months old." Making his birthday roughly Jan 1st of 2020. He is the all American sweetheart lab retriever that you'd see in your dreams. He's an incredibly sweet, energetic, playful, and sincere dog who wants nothing more than adventure, companionship, and love. He gets along typically very well with other dogs, and is extremely trainable. I am far from perfect, and this is why I must rehome him. His dental hygiene needs work and routine, and in general he needs someone mentally healthy and financially stable enough to properly take care of him. He's mostly caught up on shots, just missing one or two. He is a golden ray of light on this planet and you will be truly blessed if you are his new companion.

Story
Lala is a certified Canine Good Citizen! She is smart, loyal and very responsive 2 year old , 65 lbs Shepherd mix (could be purebred Anatolian).  She is spayed and housebroken.  Lala loves the outdoors and is always ready for a walk be it in the busy neighborhood streets or park.  She walks gently on a loose leash and always checks in with her human, should it be a dog or loud garbage truck pass her.  Lala has basic obedience training and can stay in her "place" for more than 30 seconds, even when the human goes out of sight.   She enjoys puzzle toys and the kong and is very treat motivated, making training an enjoyable experience for all. Lala loves playtime with other fur friends and humans of all ages. Lala would thrive in a home that offers her both physical and mental stimulation- walks, puzzle toys, tricks, doggy playdates. Lala prefers lounging free when her humans have to leave her alone.  Lala has completed a training program in Basic Obedience and Manners at Oriondogtraining.com and passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen test! Lala is a very social dog and loves everyone she meets. She will be perfect for a family with children and other dogs. She does have higher prey drive so no kitties. Want a fun, easygoing, social companion? Lala is your girl! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Cuddly Pal Rodrick is a 55lb Lab/Weimaraner mix. Rodrick is such a sweet pal of a dog! He loves playing with his 4-legged sister, watching sports while snuggling on the couch, taking walks in the neighborhood and local parks, long car rides, and hanging out while his foster dad works on his computer.   He has learned that "Sit" is a great default position and he is working on learning his name for recall as well as "Place" and "Down". Rodrick is an enthusiastic learner and shines as he strives to please his human friends!   We do not know why Rodrick landed in the shelter, but he is still learning to be trusting of the world and of strangers. Moments of chaos or surprising appearances of unknown people are very stressful for Rodrick. While on leash he is also unsure about other dogs, bicycles, skateboards or runners. He is working with his foster dad and a trainer to work on his reactivity and learn to trust new people and has made good progress in the past month.   Rodrick is seeking a home where there is some predictability and a calm environment. He connects deeply with a few people, and needs slow introductions to new people. SVPP is working with a trainer and helping Rodrick to learn that he can be safe when the unexpected happens. Continuing training support will be provided to his adopter. SVPP thanks Alec Khanna photography for assistance in taking photos of our adoptable pets. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sweet girl is settling inLucy is a 2 year-old, spayed, Labrador Retriever mix. Sweet Lucy landed in the shelter with a number of wounds on her head and neck. She fully recovered from the injuries and is doing incredibly well settling into home life after almost 6 months in the shelter. The only reminder of her injuries is a head tilt that adds to her cuteness. We believe Lucy spent much of her early life living outside with other dogs, so she would do well in a home with an older dog or two who can show her the ropes of home life. Even on her own, she is doing very well and learning new skills every day. Lucy does great on car rides, walks beautifully on leash and sits at every corner! While she is nervous about the world, she is extremely affectionate with her trusted humans and is quickly learning how to live in a house with folks who truly love her. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 3, 2025, 6:32 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Happiest of pups! Sunny is a 1 year-old, 41lb Labrador Retriever/Cardigan Welsh Corgi mix.  Please welcome Sunny to SVPP! Named both for his sunny coat as well as his sunny demeanor, this happy young boy is settling in well with his foster family. To understand what a Lab/Corgi mix looks like, just think of your favorite Yellow Lab, just about 8 inches shorter! He has all the great qualities of a Lab, but in a smaller package. Sunny is both house trained and crate trained! This smart cookie is also VERY food motivated and loves to learn new behaviors. He is working on his leash walking skills with his new mom and learning the value of loose leash.  He LOVES to play with his foster sister and has already had a playdate with another friend! His foster mom tells us she always knows where that missing sock or slipper goes when Sunny is home - he gently takes it out to the yard where he can keep an eye on it for her ;-) Sunny will thrive in a home with people who love to be active with their dogs and with at least one 4-legged sibling to play with and help show this young boy the ropes! Story
02/19/25 10:56What did we do on today’s adventure: What a day! When the car door opened, I saw that it was full of squeaky toys! Ihopped in right away, picked my favorite one, sat down and squeaked away!Once we got to the trail, I had to be coaxed out of the car, because, really, I kinda wanted to take all the squeaky toys with us, but the human picked onethat we would take with us, and then off we went!I trotted along, sniffing every tree, rock, and leaf. Sometimes, I got a little tenseseeing another dog on the trail, but we gave them a wide berth and I washappily distracted by the human feeding me treats! I was very happy on this walk - we ran into some parts where we had to crossthis huge river (akavery large puddle). I just ran and splashed right throughand then I was so proud, I asked the human for a treat for my effort, which Iheartily ate.The best part? After the hike, I hopped right back into the car like a pro, readyto squeak my toys to my heart’s content. What should potential adopters know about me: Gustav is quick to engage with you. His trust in you is instant, eventhough I set things up in the car to make sure he had a good supplyof squeaky toys. He was completely quiet and calm in the car goingto and from the trail. He is reactive to seeing other dogs on leash, butif you give them a wide berth and help Gustav along with some treatsor a toy - he’ll follow you. Walking, he’s a 9/10 - minus the ‘reactingto other dogs’ factor. He checked in regularly with me and Imanaged to get a few kisses after water breaks. Sometimes he camein just to get petted. Gustav is a really sweet dog and is a happy-go-lucky guy – he’ll make a great and loving companion for his fureverfamily.Three words to describe me: Sweet, Gentle, Friendly11/20/24 06:51Dog Day Out ReportToday I: went to the Guadalupe River Trail with my friend and had a loooong walk, sniffing a ton of interesting scents! I spotted birds, geese, ducks, and more. Toward the end, I got a pup cup, and it was so much fun!Three Words to Describe Me are: Affectionate, Gentle, FriendlyNotes from My Walker: Gustav is a handsome older gentleman at the San Jose Animal Care Center. He’s gentle, affectionate, and friendly with everyone. I took him to the Guadalupe River Trail, and we had a fantastic time!I leashed and harnessed him with treats in the side yard at the end of my volunteer shift, just like usual. He was super easy—actual
