URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED! Lala is losing her foster home and needs a new place to land BY THIS SUNDAY 12/15!   Lala is a certified Canine Good Citizen! She is smart, loyal and very responsive 2 year old , 65 lbs Shepherd mix (could be purebred Anatolian).  She is spayed and housebroken.  Lala loves the outdoors and is always ready for a walk be it in the busy neighborhood streets or park.  She walks gently on a loose leash and always checks in with her human, should it be a dog or loud garbage truck pass her.  Lala has basic obedience training and can stay in her "place" for more than 30 seconds, even when the human goes out of sight.   She enjoys puzzle toys and the kong and is very treat motivated, making training an enjoyable experience for all. Lala loves playtime with other fur friends and humans of all ages. Lala would thrive in a home that offers her both physical and mental stimulation- walks, puzzle toys, tricks, doggy playdates. Lala prefers lounging free when her humans have to leave her alone.  Lala has completed a training program in Basic Obedience and Manners at Oriondogtraining.com and passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen test! Lala is a very social dog and loves everyone she meets. She will be perfect for a family with children and other dogs. She does have higher prey drive so no kitties. Want a fun, easygoing, social companion? Lala is your girl! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Cuddly PalRodrick is a 55lb Lab/Weimaraner mix. Rodrick is such a sweet pal of a dog! He loves playing with his 4-legged sister, watching sports while snuggling on the couch, taking walks in the neighborhood and local parks, long car rides, and hanging out while his foster dad works on his computer.   He has learned that "Sit" is a great default position and he is working on learning his name for recall as well as "Place" and "Down". Rodrick is an enthusiastic learner and shines as he strives to please his human friends!   We do not know why Rodrick landed in the shelter, but he is still learning to be trusting of the world and of strangers. Moments of chaos or surprising appearances of unknown people are very stressful for Rodrick. While on leash he is also unsure about other dogs, bicycles, skateboards or runners. He is working with his foster dad and a trainer to work on his reactivity and learn to trust new people and has made good progress in the past month.   Rodrick is seeking a home where there is some predictability and a calm environment. He connects deeply with a few people, and needs slow introductions to new people. SVPP is working with a trainer and helping Rodrick to learn that he can be safe when the unexpected happens. Continuing training support will be provided to his adopter. Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetproject SVPP thanks Alec Khanna photography for assistance in taking photos of our adoptable pets.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 15, 2024, 6:19 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sweet girl is settling inLucy is a 2 year-old, spayed, Labrador Retriever mix. Sweet Lucy landed in the shelter with a number of wounds on her head and neck. She fully recovered from the injuries and is doing incredibly well settling into home life after almost 6 months in the shelter. The only reminder of her injuries is a head tilt that adds to her cuteness. We believe Lucy spent much of her early life living outside with other dogs, so she would do well in a home with an older dog or two who can show her the ropes of home life. Even on her own, she is doing very well and learning new skills every day. Lucy does great on car rides, walks beautifully on leash and sits at every corner! While she is nervous about the world, she is extremely affectionate with her trusted humans and is quickly learning how to live in a house with folks who truly love her.  Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetproject Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 17, 2024, 2:30 pm

11/20/24 06:51Dog Day Out ReportToday I: went to the Guadalupe River Trail with my friend and had a loooong walk, sniffing a ton of interesting scents! I spotted birds, geese, ducks, and more. Toward the end, I got a pup cup, and it was so much fun!Three Words to Describe Me are: Affectionate, Gentle, FriendlyNotes from My Walker: Gustav is a handsome older gentleman at the San Jose Animal Care Center. He’s gentle, affectionate, and friendly with everyone. I took him to the Guadalupe River Trail, and we had a fantastic time!I leashed and harnessed him with treats in the side yard at the end of my volunteer shift, just like usual. He was super easy—actually one of the easiest! He almost stayed still while I put on the collar and harness. At first, he seemed a bit unsure about my car, but once I climbed into the back seat, he jumped in without hesitation! On the way back, he hopped right in as soon as I opened the door for him. I’m so glad to see his progress! He rode nicely the whole way, either looking out the window curiously, laying down to rest, or playing with toys in the backseat. Such a happy boy!We started our outing with a long walk along the Guadalupe River Trail and then headed to Almaden Lake Park to relax by the lake. He was such a good loose-leash walker right from the start! He mostly walked right beside me the whole time. He was friendly with everyone we encountered—walkers, joggers, bikers, you name it. When we came across other dogs, we kept our distance, and he handled it well. He showed no interest in the geese and ducks but was curious about the birds, though he didn’t pull hard towards themHe knew how to `sit` and `down,` and he`s eager to learn more. He loved treats and took them gently. He`s super affectionate and would lean in for pets! He loved stuffed toys and would carry them around while walking. So cute!Come to meet this loving boy! You’ll never regret it!

Story
12/01/24 23:57Dog Day Out Report:Today I: met a new friend who took me for a drive and a walk and a visit to Petfood Express! I was excited to go out but was still patient about getting my harness and collar on. I loved sniffing out the window during our car ride and making friends with the people in neighboring cars at stop lights. I enjoyed getting to sniff all the smells at the park and showing off my tricks (sit, shake, down) for treats. I got lots of compliments about what a beautiful and good boy I am. Then we went to petfood express and there were so many new smells (and treats!). Finally, we got a pup cup to end the morning, delish! Three Words to Describe Me are: Happy, Attentive, Affectionate Notes from My Walker: Trooper is a sweetheart who loves all people. He was excited to get out but was very patient about getting his harness on and adjusted. He had no problem hopping in the car and liked to sit in the back and sniff out the window as we drove. I saw more than one person smiling at him at stoplights and he also got some compliments from a neighboring car at a red light. He walks good on leash with minimal pulling, he tends to walk at the extent of the leash but not pull. He does have a back foot injury and he slows down when it starts to bother him. It also bothers him to walk on gravel, mulch, and rough pavement (starts hopping) so we mostly stuck to soft grass and smooth sidewalk which seemed fine. He is very attentive to his walker and checks in frequently. He loves treats and is happy to show off his tricks for any. He was non-reactive to other dogs, people, bikes, and cars and just happy to keep walking. He is very sweet and affectionate and happy to get pets during breaks. 10/31/24 10:51Reason animal needs rescue: Fractures along digits 2-4 requiring ongoing splint/ bandage changes.Type: MedicalImpound type: StrayAdditional notes: Trooper is a approx 5yo MI lab/ pit mix presented to the shelter with a degloving injury to his RPL paw. He has fractures along digits 2-4 requiring ongoing splint/ bandage changes. Due to the frequency of his bandage changes and his projected time to heal (at least 8 weeks), high need for rescue. SMUI
