Story
Meet Misty, a wise and wonderful shepherd lab mix who’s nearing her 15th year. Misty embodies the grace and wisdom that only come with age. She’s spent her life being a loyal companion, and now she’s ready to find a quiet, loving home where she can enjoy her golden years. Like many seniors, Misty has faced a few challenges along the way. She’s a bit wary of strangers, especially when she’s not feeling her best. She is also selective about her doggie friends, sometimes feeling protective of her space or getting frustrated when on a leash. But don’t let that fool you—beneath it all, Misty has a heart of gold. Misty is looking for a special someone who understands the quirks that come with being a senior dog. She thrives in a calm, patient environment where she can relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of life—like a cozy bed, gentle ear rubs, and the warmth of a loving home. If you’re ready to open your heart to a senior dog who has so much love left to give, Misty is waiting to meet you. She may have a few extra needs, but she’ll reward you with endless loyalty and affection. Meet Misty, a wise and wonderful shepherd lab mix who’s nearing her 15th year. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, December 21st and Sunday, December 22nd from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $700 Meet Alpine, the 8 week old Labrador Retriever mix with a personality as bright as a snowflake and a tail that wags like it’s auditioning for a role in a rom-com! This little bundle of joy was found abandoned with her sister Aspen, but don’t worry—she’s now living the good life in foster care, where her days are filled with puppy shenanigans and epic cuddle sessions. If you’re looking for a furry friend who can turn any mundane day into a snowball fight of fun, Alpine is your gal!   Alpine is a professional leaf pouncer and grass nibbler, with a PhD in Zoomies. Every morning, she wakes up at 7 AM, ready to tackle her to-do list of playtime, breakfast, and more playtime—because who wouldn’t want a career that involves chasing tail and collecting belly rubs? After a full morning of frolicking, she’ll happily crash in your lap, dreaming of her next big adventure—like finding out if the couch is as comfy as it looks.   With her puppy eyes that could melt even the iciest hearts, Alpine is looking for a family ready to embrace the magic of winter with her. She’s the perfect mix of playful and snuggly, making her the ultimate companion for both outdoor escapades and cozy movie nights. If you think you can keep up with her puppy energy and shower her with love, Alpine is waiting to make your home a little brighter and a lot funnier! Daily Routine: Aspen and Alpine, the dynamic duo, wake up around 7:00 AM, ready to embrace the day! They head outside for some energetic playtime with their big foster sister, followed by breakfast after an hour of frolicking. Their meals consist of a mix of canned and dry puppy food, served three times a day. This playful pattern continues throughout the day, with plenty of naps and cuddles in between. At night, they sleep together in a cozy pen, either in a bed or an open crate, dreaming of their next adventure.       Personality Changes: When Aspen and Alpine first arrived, they were a bit unsure, missing their mom and littermates. However, they quickly adapted to the warmth, food, and love they received. Now, Alpine is the curious explorer, always ready to chase her foster sister around the yard, while Aspen is the ultimate cuddle bug, always seeking closeness and reassurance.       Interactions with Other Dogs: They have been raised with a big foster sister and are comfortable around dogs of all sizes. As they are friendly and well-socialized joining kids and cats in a new home should be a no-brainer.       Playfulness and Energy: Both pups are relaxed yet playful, engaging in fun without being overly energetic. They enjoy playtime but also appreciate their downtime, making them great companions for a variety of home environments.       Housetraining and Behaviors: Aspen and Alpine are learning their housetraining skills and are mostly successful when given ample outside breaks. While Alpine can be a little nibbly when she wants attention, Aspen is not much of a chewer, and neither dog is particularly vocal.       Ideal Home: The perfect home for Aspen and Alpine would be ones that provides plenty of attention and companionship. Ideally, they should go to homes where Aspen can enjoy lap time and Alpine can continue her outdoor adventures.       Favorite Moments: One of the best things about fostering Aspen and Alpine is witnessing their loving relationship. They look to each other as their safe haven, creating a heartwarming dynamic that’s a joy to be a part of and knowing that love will help them flourish in their individual homes.           Alpine is only an option for homes who have owned a dog in the last 5 years. Kids should be over the age of 6.  December 20, 2024, 3:15 pm

Story
Dolly, spayed female, 3y-5-m-old, 44-lbs If you would like to give DOLLY a forever home, please contact abetterchancerescue@gmail.com OR log onto abetterchancerescue.org to fill out online application Dolly has an easy-going temperament, very playful and lively. She loves people and is sociable around other dogs and stays calm when meeting cats. She is potty trained and crate trained to sleep overnight; not a chewer or barker. Dolly is most suitable for an outdoor loving family, and/or as an addition to family with dog. Dolly’s rescue story: Driving home during a stormy night, the rescuer spotted a dark moving object in-between the traffic lanes. When she stopped her car to check it out, she found Dolly moving toward her slowly, wagging her tail. She didn’t seem injured but apparently had difficulty moving. Dolly followed the rescuer to her car and off to the hospital they went. The doctor’s diagnostic was that Dolly simply suffered from starvation. Under the care of her foster family, Dolly regained her hearth and received proper training. But being a dog with black color coat has hardly any chance to be adopted by local people. Hopefully Dolly can start her new life aboard. Story
Bobby, neutered male, 13-months old, 42-lbs If you would like to give BOBBY a forever home, please contact abetterchancerescue@gmail.com OR log onto abetterchancerescue.org to fill out online application Bobby is a lively, playful, and happy pup when around his human pack. He is super mellow and well behaved by nature. He gets along well with other dogs and cats. Bobby adapted and thrived quickly in foster care. He is potty trained and crate trained to sleep overnight. His favorite pastime is his daily walks and hanging out with play pals in the park. Bobby is calm and docile compared to young pups his age. He would be a great candidate for family looking for a companion pet. About Bobby’s rescue: Bobby was deserted at the park, he was around six months old at the time. Volunteer posted his story on social media asking for help, but didn’t get any response. He was friendly to the park visitors and sometimes played with their dogs. During the time the volunteer was looking for foster opportunity for him. Before an organized fair held at the park, Bobby was picked up by the local shelter. Fortunately, the volunteer landed a foster family for Bobby and got him out of the shelter shortly. Bobby got out of the shell and became his old and friendly self soon afterwards.
