Story
Meet Misty, a wise and wonderful shepherd lab mix who’s nearing her 15th year. Misty embodies the grace and wisdom that only come with age. She’s spent her life being a loyal companion, and now she’s ready to find a quiet, loving home where she can enjoy her golden years. Like many seniors, Misty has faced a few challenges along the way. She’s a bit wary of strangers, especially when she’s not feeling her best. She is also selective about her doggie friends, sometimes feeling protective of her space or getting frustrated when on a leash. But don’t let that fool you—beneath it all, Misty has a heart of gold. Misty is looking for a special someone who understands the quirks that come with being a senior dog. She thrives in a calm, patient environment where she can relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of life—like a cozy bed, gentle ear rubs, and the warmth of a loving home. If you’re ready to open your heart to a senior dog who has so much love left to give, Misty is waiting to meet you. She may have a few extra needs, but she’ll reward you with endless loyalty and affection. Meet Misty, a wise and wonderful shepherd lab mix who’s nearing her 15th year. Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, January 25th from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.       Adoption Fee: $600   Biscuit is a 3-4 month old Australian Kelpie x Labrador mix who is ready to be the cutest little snack in the world! Biscuit was rescued from the shelter with her sister, Gravy. We don’t know how they landed in the shelter but we promised to find them the best forever homes in the world. We expect they will be in the medium range when they reach their adult weight. If you’re in the mood for a tasty treat, adopt Miss Biscuit!      Biscuit is an affectionate and playful puppy who can’t wait to take on the world with her people. She is super smart and food motivated which means training will be a blast. Biscuit has never met a stranger she hasn’t charmed effortlessly and we know she will be the star of every park she enters. Biscuit thinks she’s a total lapdog and even though she’s getting a bit too big for laps, she’s so darn cute we can’t bear to burst her bubble. Biscuit loves playing with her toys and her humans and will happily race around for hours. She would be an amazing addition to an active home who wants to go on adventures with a furry friend! She will give you so many kisses you’ll be able to take them to the bank! We are looking for homes who are prepared to take on all that is large breed puppyhood. Those who know Lab mixes will know how incredible she will be as she grows up. With her floppy ears and her puppy dog eyes, you’ll fall in love with Biscuit from the minute you meet her!  Biscuit wakes up at 7 AM and enjoys some playtime before she has her breakfast. She plays in the front yard of her foster home for an hour or so with her sister and her toys before coming inside for a long nap. She has a light lunch followed by some playtime and cuddles. This cycle repeats for the rest of the afternoon until dinner around 7 PM. In the evening, she plays some more until she’s all tired and ready for bed in her pen.  Biscuit has been well socialized with dogs of varying ages and sizes. She would love a playful companion in her forever home. Interested homes should be prepared to discuss continued training and socialization plans. She adores humans of all ages and would be an amazing addition to any home. We can’t wait for Biscuit to find her buttery forever home!      Biscuit is only an option for homes who have owned a dog of their own in the last 5 years. Kids should be over the age of 5.January 30, 2025, 7:31 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $750 Meet Maverick, the 70-pound chocolate Lab who’s got a heart as big as his appetite for snuggles! Almost 2 years old and bursting with love, this guy is ready to be your best friend, workout buddy, and professional bed hog. Maverick's morning routine includes an enthusiastic wake-up call for anyone daring to sleep in, followed by breakfast and some backyard antics. He loves joining the school drop-off crew and considers himself an unofficial mascot, soaking up attention from kids and parents alike. At home, he’s a perfect sous-chef (from a safe distance, of course) and a dedicated dinner supervisor. Though he once protested his crate at night, he’s now found his happy place snuggled up with his foster family's youngest son—because what's a good night’s sleep without a big Lab by your side?   Maverick is the definition of a happy-go-lucky pup, full of energy and ready to play with anyone—dog, human, or even a curious cat. He’s the life of the party when it's playtime, especially with his energetic four-legged foster sister, but knows how to tone it down when hanging with older, more distinguished doggy friends. Maverick is smart and food-motivated, making training a breeze (as long as treats are involved). He’s currently mastering sit, down, come, and the fine art of not pulling like a sled dog on walks. While his table manners are still a work in progress, his charming personality and signature belly-up snuggle position will have you forgiving him instantly.   If you're looking for a sweet, goofy, people-loving pup who’s equal parts cuddle bug and adventure buddy, Maverick is your guy! He’s fantastic with kids, great with dogs, and has lived with cats before—though he might be a bit much for tiny humans who aren’t 'Lab-proof.' Maverick is house-trained and keeps a watchful eye on the house, letting you know when visitors arrive (but never being a nuisance barker). Whether he's flopping onto you for belly rubs or kneading the air with his paws in pure bliss, Maverick is guaranteed to fill your home with love, laughter, and a whole lot of tail wags!   Maverick is an option for a home with dog experience. If there are kids they need to be knock over proof and at least 5 years old.January 26, 2025, 6:27 am

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $650 Bacon Bits is a 10 year old Yellow Lab, and though he's earned his 'Golden Oldie' status, he still has plenty of love, joy, and energy to share. We were thrilled to rescue him and give him the life he deserves, one filled with comfort, attention, and a family to call his own. While Bacon may have a few graying hairs, you’d never guess his age by his enthusiasm and playful spirit. His gentle nature and zest for life have made him a treasured companion, showing us every day that a dog’s heart only grows bigger with time. When Bacon Bits first arrived at our home, he was eager to make friends and get involved in everything we were doing. Though he was recovering from a cough and still adjusting to his new surroundings, his enthusiasm to be part of the family was clear from day one. Over time, he’s relaxed into his new life and has become even more affectionate. He no longer feels the need to follow us everywhere, but he loves to cuddle up on the couch or nap beside us while we work. His appetite is back, and though he prefers to graze throughout the day, he’s healthy, content, and more settled than ever. Bacon Bits is surprisingly energetic for a Golden Oldie! He enjoys his morning and evening walks and has a playful streak when he dashes around the yard. You’ll often catch him running with a joyful spark, chasing after anything that catches his attention. His love for life is contagious—it’s impossible not to smile when you see him sprinting around, ears flapping in the wind. He also knows how to take it easy, content to sit by your side and watch TV, especially when All Creatures Great and Small comes on. Bacon is especially fond of the dogs on the show, his eyes lighting up every time they appear. Bacon Bits is a very social boy and gets along well with our resident dog, Mac, a bulldog/pit mix. While Bacon is a bit protective of his toys, offering a friendly warning if Mac gets too close, they’ve become the best of friends. Bacon is always up for a romp in the yard or a peaceful moment with Mac. He also has a curious fascination with our barn cats, watching them intently from a distance but respecting their space. He has not been off-leash with other dogs, but we believe he would do well with the right companions. Though Bacon Bits enjoys his playful moments, he’s also calm and content, especially when he’s with his people. He’s learned the joy of being a companion, one who enjoys your presence without always needing to be in the middle of the action. Bacon is content to relax by your side while you work or even curl up for a nap. He’s truly the perfect balance of playful and peaceful. This loving boy is looking for a home that appreciates his gentle, joyful nature. A family who’s willing to let him be part of everything they do and give him the love and care he deserves. Bacon Bits would do well in a home with other dogs or older children who can share in his zest for life. If you’re ready for a companion who will make every day brighter and show you just how wonderful life can be with a dog who’s lived it all, Bacon Bits is waiting for you. His heart is full, and he’s ready to share it with the right family. BB is an option for a novice or experienced home. If there are children they need to be over the age of 5.February 1, 2025, 7:52 am

Story
Dolly, spayed female, 3y-5-m-old, 44-lbs If you would like to give DOLLY a forever home, please contact abetterchancerescue@gmail.com OR log onto abetterchancerescue.org to fill out online application Dolly has an easy-going temperament, very playful and lively. She loves people and is sociable around other dogs and stays calm when meeting cats. She is potty trained and crate trained to sleep overnight; not a chewer or barker. Dolly is most suitable for an outdoor loving family, and/or as an addition to family with dog. Dolly’s rescue story: Driving home during a stormy night, the rescuer spotted a dark moving object in-between the traffic lanes. When she stopped her car to check it out, she found Dolly moving toward her slowly, wagging her tail. She didn’t seem injured but apparently had difficulty moving. Dolly followed the rescuer to her car and off to the hospital they went. The doctor’s diagnostic was that Dolly simply suffered from starvation. Under the care of her foster family, Dolly regained her hearth and received proper training. But being a dog with black color coat has hardly any chance to be adopted by local people. Hopefully Dolly can start her new life aboard.
