You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hello Everyone, my name is Pearlescent Moon and I am so happy to meet you. I have a bit of a sad backstory, but I am so excited to find my new lease on life! I came from a criminal seizure case because I went from being overweight (80 lbs) to very underweight (40 lbs) in a very short period of time. My neighbors were concerned about me and reached out for help as my previous owner appeared to be struggling with my care and it was decided I should be removed from her home. I ended up at a private veterinary clinic where a wonderful vet tech took responsibility for me and worked to find me a place within a rescue where I could receive the care I needed and some stability. I have since settled into my Ruff Start Rescue foster home and am learning that I will always be taken care of, loved and cuddled, and that food and water will always be there for me. Part of the reason I declined so quickly is that I have diabetes which requires twice daily insulin injections and a thyroid issue that requires twice daily pills, both of which they believe I was not receiving with my previous owner. The vet team is now working with my foster to get me back on track and adjusting my medicines to make sure I am doing the best I can. Due to the time I was not being well taken care of, I am still underweight, have issues with my coat and skin, longer than normal quicks in my nails, and have probably lost some of my eyesight. But the good news is: I am gaining weight, my skin will improve more and more with good food and regular baths and combing sessions, and my nails appear long, but don't seem to bother me too much. I can still see, but I have some issues that will likely remain, even after my medications are more regulated. I am looking for a foster-to-adopt home as I will need to get a bit healthier before I will be able to be spayed and have a small mass on one of my front legs removed. I will need my medications likely for the rest of my life and will need to have my weight carefully managed once I am at a healthy weight again. My foster family says I am quite the sweet and silly girl and are really excited I am here. They think I am 4-5 years old, a red lab maybe mixed with a bit of hound, and that I fall into the large dog category. They say I will have the prettiest fur when I am healthy, and even though my eyes are cloudy they speak to your soul. I do a lot of talking and my foster Dad thinks I must have been a dinosaur in my previous life for some of the noises I make. Shared walls would be an issue for me with my whining, noises, and barking requirements (I have to tell you how I feel after all!). I am also one of those amazing large dogs who doesn't know my size and thinks I should still get to sit on your lap! I am still very starved for contact and will come sit on the floor next to your chair, stare at you, and whine and bark until you pet me, which then leads to me rubbing against you, leaning into you, and begging you for more love. They do think once I settle in a bit more, this need will lessen, but plan on cuddles being a top priority for me! I do great with the other dogs at my foster home and the cats too, but I need to be fed separately as I am still learning to trust that I will always have what I need. I do my business well outside on a leash and hardly have any accidents once I am in my routine. My foster Mom and I are getting the hang of my meds and I can tell when it's time for my insulin, so I can help you remember! I haven't started playing with toys yet, but I love the big cushy bed they put in my kennel so I can be comfy while I gain weight.
