This is Bernie... our sweet Doodle boy! Bernie came to GRRAND from a shelter in late November. He was in terrible condition upon intake and required shaving due to such deep mats. He was also quite unsocialized and has needed a lot of behavioral support to become ready for adoption. We’re so excited for Bernie to be able to continue on the next leg of his journey to finding his forever home! This affectionate boy now loves to jump up and give hugs to his caretakers He will need a family with the time and patience to continue helping him come out of his shell to see all the great things in the world and to give him the attention and exercise he desires. He needs a secure home with an above-ground fenced yard because he could be a flight risk. Bernie resource guards and since he cannot be retrained to change this behavior, he needs a home without any kids, grandkids or children visiting the home. With his resource guarding behaviors, Bernie does not like it when other dogs or people get around his food (or favorite things) so he will need to be fed separately from other dogs however, he does love to play with other dogs and does great with them! We do not believe he should go to a home with cats. French Vanilla Latte is an almost 10 year old, 45ish lb, female Australian Labradoodle! Her family has moved and cannot afford to take care of Latte anymore.  She eats a great diet too... Taste of the wild. Duck or salmon. Feed 1/2 cup 2X day. 7am and 4pm. Top with raw diet items. Yogurt ,raw egg, vegetables,fruit, 1raw femur bone per week, goat milk,bone broth. Femur bone is her favorite She is a chewer and chews on bone until gets another  She is said to have lived with a cat (GRRAND has not cat tested her) and another dog. She has free run of the house when her people are not home, and she is crate and leash-trained. Her former owner said "Latte started life with me being trained as my service dog. When her dysplasia was discovered and her small size she could not work . LARRY is a special dog to us! He is a 2 year old male, mixed breed dog. A relative's DNA came back with German Shepherd, Beagle, Basset and Chow as the predominant breeds. Go figure? To us, he looks just like an English Lab. LARRY grew up in less than desirable, outdoor conditions. He was one of a backyard pack and was completely raised by canines. To his credit, he retains many of the loving qualities we love in dogs. He bonds quickly to his owner and is very loyal. He is great with other dogs. He is respectful of everything and everyone around him. For us, Larry is the consummate rescue dog. He will take a little time. There is still so much for him to experience in his new world. We initially placed Larry in a great foster home. Here, he made great strides learning how to live indoors with a family. He discovered the comfort of napping on the couch. He took delight in getting his favorite snack - Italian bread. But they could only build on his social skills so far. His confidence level was built to the point we could enroll him in our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program. We are pleased to report he is handling this beautifully! It is a safe and nurturing environment, yet he has to get used to a lot more activities, noises and people. If something scares him, his inmate is right there to help. In the meantime, Larry is also receiving obedience training. He is going to make someone a very nice companion. His general demeanor is quiet and gentle anyway. Meet Mack! This handsome guy came into the shelter as a stray and was never claimed. Mack is just under a year and weighs 50 lbs. He's not that tall, but he's solid! He is outgoing, affectionate and has never met a stranger. He would love a family with another young dog to play with. Some puppies have energy and then some puppies have energy! He is working on his leash skills, he is crate and house trained, obedience and composure are the in the works. He doesnt have a mean bone in his body but he does have the horsepower of a Mack truck. This week we saw remarkable progress! He can sit still for 5 minutes! He can do sit and down. He's nothing but one big wiggle when you go visit with him. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and deworming. You won't find a happier dog than Mack! Mack will do best with an active family. At this age, he's on the go! and he'll always be strong but there are kids and dogs out there that can play at his speed. IMPORTANT: Please Keep in mind Mack is under 1 year old with a life expectancy of 14 years.
