Story
Maui is a beautiful, sweet, and silly 75lb Double Doodle (her wisdom panel shows 45% Labrador Retriever, 32% Golden Retriever, 22% Poodle, and 1% Flat-Coated Retriever). She came to SPAR facing life and death, having to undergo her second gastrointestinal surgery. She luckily pulled through the surgery and the weeks of recovery. She had previously had a foreign body removal 6 months prior as a puppy. Maui is looking for a special home. Having already used two (or more) of her spare lives, her body cannot afford another foreign body removal or gastrointestinal surgery. She cannot have access to any toys or anything left out she can chew on (blankets, dog beds, her leash, plastic dog bowls, etc). She sleeps in her kennel at night and is great around other dogs of all sizes. She is learning about cats in her current foster home and might be okay around dog-savvy cats. She would be okay in a home with older kids that understand the safety concerns of leaving things out where Maui can get into them. She has decent leash manners and enjoys going on walks. She is very smart and would love to take additional obedience classes to bond more with her new family. Maui also has already had an incisional gastropexy, so no future risks of GDV, or “bloat”. If you are interested in meeting Maui, please complete the adoption application. We go through a multi-step process for our dogs that includes meeting at the fosters home, a home inspection, and reference checks.

Story
Meet Misty, a wise and wonderful shepherd lab mix who’s nearing her 15th year. Misty embodies the grace and wisdom that only come with age. She’s spent her life being a loyal companion, and now she’s ready to find a quiet, loving home where she can enjoy her golden years. Like many seniors, Misty has faced a few challenges along the way. She’s a bit wary of strangers, especially when she’s not feeling her best. She is also selective about her doggie friends, sometimes feeling protective of her space or getting frustrated when on a leash. But don’t let that fool you—beneath it all, Misty has a heart of gold. Misty is looking for a special someone who understands the quirks that come with being a senior dog. She thrives in a calm, patient environment where she can relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of life—like a cozy bed, gentle ear rubs, and the warmth of a loving home. If you’re ready to open your heart to a senior dog who has so much love left to give, Misty is waiting to meet you. She may have a few extra needs, but she’ll reward you with endless loyalty and affection. Meet Misty, a wise and wonderful shepherd lab mix who’s nearing her 15th year. Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, November 16th from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $550   Frodo is a 10 week old Labrador Retriever who has traveled all the way from Rivendell to find his forever home! Frodo was found dumped in a Costco parking lot and saved by kind citizens who held onto him until they found a rescue to take him in. We would never say no to a puppy in need, so we scooped him up and promised to find him a pawsome forever home. Frodo currently weighs around 10 pounds so we expect him to be in the 45-55 pound range as an adult. He’s going to be a Mini Lab, how cute! Frodo has already gone on a grand adventure at such a young age and he can’t wait for his next quest with you!      Frodo is a sweet and affectionate puppy who’s full of love and excitement for the world around him. He is a total velcro dog who is ready to follow you faithfully on any adventure ahead. He’s ready to scamper up mountains, brave rivers, and slide down valleys as long as he can do it by your side. Frodo is always ready to give kisses or snuggle into your arms as well. He has the cutest little sock birthmarks that further add to his cuteness. This super mutt is the most amazing blend of cuteness and spirit all packed in a gangly little body. We promise you’ll grow into your legs, bud! Frodo is super playful and is always ready for a romp around the yard or a game of fetch in the hallway. Frodo also loves chilling a lap as he watches a movie with his people (Lord of the Rings marathon anyone?) and absolutely melts in your arms when you scratch under his chin. Frodo can’t wait to meet you and make you fall madly in love with him. He’s ready to use all the magic puppy spirit he has to make your life together absolutely amazing!  Frodo wakes up with the sun and goes right outside to greet the day. He eats three times a day: 7 AM, 1 PM, and 7 PM. This guy loves his food so he’s always eager for meal times! During the day, Frodo cycles between playing with toys, hanging out with his canine foster sister, napping in his crate, and getting kisses from his foster family. He loves being outside and delights in showing off his zoomies when he gets playtime. In the afternoon when the workday ends, Frodo is held as his foster sister is taken on her daily walk before they return home for dinner. In the evening, he soaks up cuddles and plays some more until he gets sleepy. He goes out for one more potty and then goes into his crate for the night.   Frodo currently lives with a large dog who he happily plays with and showers in kisses every day. He can be a bit shy when meeting new people but once he knows you, he will be yours forever! Frodo is working on his leash skills and potty training skills but his forever family should be prepared to continue his training and socialization to ensure he is a well-behaved adult. Frodo is food motivated so training will be a blast and he’ll be the star of the class in no time! Come meet our intrepid hero and adopt Frodo! Frodo met Pauline the world's greatest cat and he would be an option for a dog savvy cat who just doesn't care about his playful nature.  Frodo is only an option for homes with prior dog experience. Kids should be over the age of 8.November 16, 2024, 5:28 pm
