Story
Let me introduce you to the type of dog that feels like he has always been yours. Familiar, warm, a gentle soul we call Camo. He’s a guy with calm presence and a set of warm eyes that say, "tell me all about it, I’m here to listen.” Camo greets familiar people just the same as “strangers,” warm, wiggly, and genuinely welcoming. The best part is that despite his size, nothing about his approach is overwhelming, he understands his size and doesn’t use it to push his way into your attention. Take a look at this boy then come back to read more -https://youtu.be/NirsvWgi-4k The very first day we met Camo he amazed us, there wasn’t a single thing he didn’t do well by our standards.. He was incredibly sweet with people but also showed great dog-to-dog skills. He’s playful, confident, and good at "reading the room" with other dogs- knowing when to chase and when to chill. Plus, he has great leash skills, sure he gets excited for a moment about going on a walk with you but within a few minutes he settles in to an easy pace. Camo’s very first dog interaction was polite and friendly. He stood almost two times taller than her an almost like he wanted her to know he was sweet, he adorably licked her head right away. As he was introduced to more dogs his playful side really came out but only with the dogs that invited it and matched his energy, he wasn’t as playful with more reserved dogs. That is a wonderful skill in a dog! With an extremely playful female, he was eager to play. Because of this, we think Camo would do best with a goofy and fun-loving female playmate. He is even a perfect doggie-day-care boy,— he has the right social skills and temperament for a group setting. Camo reminds me of a lovable little brother — always ready for an adventure with you and just happy to be invited. He would be a wonderful family dog just as easily as the dream wing-man to a single someone. He’s gentle enough not to overwhelm people and seems like he would absolutely love kids. Based on everything we’ve seen, he has that playful, affectionate energy that would make him a fantastic family dog. An ideal home would be a house with a yard over an apartment. While he is a pretty chill guy overall, he does have bursts of energy and playfulness that a backyard would help channel. He has potential for suburban or more rural life, but he’s probably not cut out for the hustle and bustle of a busy city environment. And as much as he is friendly and fun-loving, when he met our house cat he thought he was making a new friend but because of his size, he ended up just scaring him. His love of chase will not be matched by a feline friend so a kitty-free home will be best for him. Physically, Camo's demeanor and look lead us to believe he is an Anatolian Shepherd mix, approximately 1 year old. He currently weighs 51 lbs — a number that surprised us given his long legs (turns out a lot of it is fluff!). Breed and age are estimates, he is a rescue after all but he is essentially at his full-grown size — that perfect midsize dog if you as me! Camo is ready to bring his friendly, fun-loving adventurous spirit into your world. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who can keep up with your adventures but also settle in for some quiet snuggles, Camo might just be your perfect match. Looks, charm, playfulness, and a sweet, steady heart — that’s Camo, and he’s ready to be your guy! Questions? Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
