Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Coach and his little sister Marley have grown up in the Texas Hill Country with goats and chickens, and were surrendered to us in early December. Since coming to Windsong Ranch, they have both been to the vet for vaccinations, heartworm test (negative!), and spay/neuter surgery. We are rotating them in and out of our pasture as we confirm what we were told by their previous owner. So far, both dogs have done well with our goats, but we haven't yet tested them with our chickens. Marley and Coach both get along well with other dogs. Both are very playful, and we intentionally rotate them in the pasture separately, so we can confirm that they will play with OTHER dogs, not just with each other. These dogs are very friendly with people and would do well on a small homestead where they will get plenty of attention and affection from the family. Please complete the application on our website if you are interested in meeting Marley or Coach.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 12:12 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Mouse King is one of the Nutcracker Suite puppies who looks more like his dad, a purebred Komondor, than his mom, an Anatolian Shepherd. In their first home, these puppies were living with chickens, ducks, geese, a couple of goats, dogs, barn cats, and a few assorted other animals so they have had a great diversity of exposure. When he was VERY young (just a few weeks old) Mouse King suffered a traumatic brain injury believed to have been caused by a goat either kicking him or head-butting him when his skull was still puppy-soft. He seems healthy and robust, and he is growing like a weed, but his intellectual development seems delayed compared to his siblings. For example, he loves taking treats from my hand, but he doesn't seem to comprehend the concept of SIT, which his sisters learned in just a couple of days. Mouse King is really playful with other pups and sometimes seems a little more rambunctious than they are, as though he has no inhibitions. If another pup corrects him to tell him he's being too rough, he cries and backs off. He settles very quickly in the barn, but is more rowdy when outside. With all of this in mind, we don't think Mouse King should be adopted as a future LGD. He could be a wonderful PET on a small homestead where he could live around livestock. But he could also go to a traditional suburban home with no livestock, with another playful dog as his companion. In our experience with another dog who had a traumatic brain injury as a wee pup, her developmental delays did not inhibit her house/potty-training, so our expectation is that Mouse King could learn house manners too. If you have a heart for special needs pups, we hope you'll consider Mouse King. In our experience, the only real accommodation needed was to keep expectations reasonable -- to be willing to love the pup and not worry too much about obedience training. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.UPDATE: Ginger Gold (AKA Whiskers) has moved into the house and is doing great! She definitely likes being a house dog and quickly decided that the sofa is REALLY comfy. She hasn't had any potty accidents in the house, and she is content to sleep in a crate at night, which is part of how we potty/house-train dogs. She walks OK on the leash, but if she gets frightened by crowds or noise, she will quickly slip between my legs, so she definitely needs more practice walking on a leash. Whiskers gets along well with other dogs and never bothered our barn cats when she lived in the barn/pasture. ORIGINAL BIO: Ginger Gold (aka Whiskers) is one of the Apple Dumpling Gang pups. Her mom is a pinto Anatolian Shepherd who is an excellent LGD, and dad is a Komondor, also an excellent LGD. These pups were born on a small homestead in the Texas hill country with a few goats, LOTS of chickens, geese, and turkeys, plus a few other types of livestock. Since coming to Windsong Ranch, they have continued to be exposed to our goats, though we don't leave them in the pasture unsupervised because they are still young. We haven't weighed the pups in a couple of months, and they are definitely growing like weeds. Our best guess based on her growth so far, is that Whiskers may weigh 70-80 lbs by the time she reaches adulthood. Her dad is over 100 lbs, and her mom was still lean at 80 lbs when she was adopted, so it's possible she may grow larger than our estimate. If you're looking for a friendly companion for your home or homestead, complete the application on our website.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 12:12 pm

Story
DNA results are in for Monty! Per Wisdom Panel he is a mix of 13 different breeds with the top two breeds being Great Pyrenees and German Shepherd Dog. He is estimated to weigh between 75-119 lbs when full grown! Monty has completed his antibiotics, antifungal treatments, medicated baths, and eye drops—and he’s making remarkable progress! His eye is looking better by the day with almost no cloudiness left. His leg has healed beautifully, no more limping, and he’s using it like a champ. As for his most scarred areas (tail, head, and belly), they’re starting to sprout new hair, and he’s getting super fuzzy! Monty had a special milestone this week: When his foster mom came home from a trip, Monty ran up to greet her with tail wags! Not long ago, he had to be carried in and out of the house, but now he’s confident enough to go through the back door and in and out of his kennel all on his own. Even better, he’s starting to enjoy time with his foster family instead of rushing straight to his kennel! Monty is still eating like a champ, loves playing with his canine foster siblings, and doesn’t mind the cat one bit. He’s even starting to approach family members for pets and is beginning to play with toys. Monty will need a patient adopter who will allow him to adjust to his new environment. Due to his breed makeup, no apartments please! We are dedicated to rescuing dogs in shelters, dogs in abusive or neglectful situations, and dogs surrendered by their owners because of difficult circumstances. We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process, which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, microchipped, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. Dogs in the greatest need take priority. Finally, we strive to work with shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless dogs. ##2189369##
