Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Coach grew up in the Texas Hill Country with goats and chickens, and has done well with our goats. We haven't yet tested him with our chickens but that's on our "to do" list to confirm what we were told by the folks who surrendered Coach to us. He gets along well with other dogs (both male and female) and mostly ignores our barn cats. He's very playful with other young dogs, but respectful of our goats. He is NOT a fan of cattle though, and will bark and chase our longhorns away from our goats. As long as they keep their distance, Coach will leave the cattle alone -- he just doesn't seem to want them coming too close to our goats. Coach is very friendly with people and would do well on a small homestead where he will get plenty of attention and affection from the family. Please complete the application on our website if you are interested in meeting Coach.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 25, 2024, 11:23 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Mouse King is one of the Nutcracker Suite puppies who looks more like his dad, a purebred Komondor, than his mom, an Anatolian Shepherd. In their first home, these puppies were living with chickens, ducks, geese, a couple of goats, dogs, barn cats, and a few assorted other animals so they have had a great diversity of exposure. When he was VERY young (just a few weeks old) Mouse King suffered a traumatic brain injury believed to have been caused by a goat either kicking him or head-butting him when his skull was still puppy-soft. He seems healthy and robust, and he is growing like a weed, but his intellectual development seems delayed compared to his siblings. For example, he loves taking treats from my hand, but he doesn't seem to comprehend the concept of SIT, which his sisters learned in just a couple of days. Mouse King is really playful with other pups and sometimes seems a little more rambunctious than they are, as though he has no inhibitions. If another pup corrects him to tell him he's being too rough, he cries and backs off. He settles very quickly in the barn, but is more rowdy when outside. With all of this in mind, we don't think Mouse King should be adopted as a future LGD. He could be a wonderful PET on a small homestead where he could live around livestock. But he could also go to a traditional suburban home with no livestock, with another playful dog as his companion. In our experience with another dog who had a traumatic brain injury as a wee pup, her developmental delays did not inhibit her house/potty-training, so our expectation is that Mouse King could learn house manners too. If you have a heart for special needs pups, we hope you'll consider Mouse King. In our experience, the only real accommodation needed was to keep expectations reasonable -- to be willing to love the pup and not worry too much about obedience training. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lady Pink is the most skittish of the Apple Dumpling Gang pups. Her mom is a pinto Anatolian Shepherd who is an excellent LGD, and dad is a Komondor, also an excellent LGD. These pups were born on a small homestead in the Texas hill country with a few goats, LOTS of chickens, geese, and turkeys, plus a few other types of livestock. Lady Pink was bullied by one of the adult dogs on the property, so she spent most of her first few months of life hiding under the house, not interacting with people. She gets along well with other dogs, but even after many months here with us, Lady Pink is still very skittish. She will take a treat from me, but it takes a few minutes of coaxing her to sit still for her to let me pet her. I've been trying to teach her to walk on a leash, but she still thinks it's an instrument of torture, so she fights the leash. Because of her background, she might be OK in a home with a flock of backyard chickens, but she is too small to be considered for a job as a livestock guardian. She does have a big bark, and she barks at strangers, whether human or canine. What she really needs is a home with someone who is home most of the time, and has the patience to work to overcome her fear. She also needs a home with a confident dog to be her friend and mentor, to show her that people can be trusted. If Lady Pink's sweet face touches your heart, please consider submitting your application. We would be glad to move her into a foster home in case you are not sure if you're cut out to adopt a skittish dog. Just to be clear, she has never shown any aggression -- she's just not sure about humans and you really have to work to earn her trust.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 5, 2025, 5:43 pm

Story
Meet Ida Wells - Our Last Little Explorer! I just saw Ida today for the first time since she was a baby, and wow — she's growing into the most adventurous, sweet, soft pup! At about 4 months old, this lab mix is full of curiosity, joy, and love. She's the perfect match for a family with kids who love to climb, dig, explore, and play in the dirt. Sand dunes? Trails? Beach days? Ida is so ready! She's the last one left from her litter — and trust us, they've all had incredible temperaments. Meet the “Trailblazer” Litter Found abandoned in a box on a quiet country road, these tiny fighters were barely weeks old, their eyes just beginning to open to the world. With no mother in sight, they were cold, hungry, and in desperate need of care. But despite their rough start, they’ve already shown resilience, strength, and a spark of hope—just like the iconic Black women they’re named after in honor of Black History Month. These pups have a long road ahead, but with love and care, they’ll soon be ready to find their forever homes. Each one carries the legacy of strength and perseverance, proving that even the smallest can make the biggest impact. All Dallas Dog adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Puppies adopted under the age of five months require a spay/neuter contract, and all dogs are required to be spayed by six months unless otherwise medically noted. Our dogs are currently on heartworm preventative. Puppies receive 3 to 4 rounds of vaccinations depending on their age, and adults receive two rounds unless they've been with us longer than a year, in which case they receive the booster update. You can complete an application or view all the adoptable pets on our website at www.dallasdog.org/adopt. Upon receiving your application, please allow us 2-3 business days to review and process.

Story
Daisy is a mixed bread puppy but mostly Great Pyrenees. She's a very sweet girl & we want to make sure we find her a good forever home. She is an active girl, she needs daily exercise and time to run around so a nice size yard or land would be best for her. She is great with other animals however she can be a bit much for less active (senior) dogs. She has been formally trained, she is fully potty & crate trained and would make a really great addition to the right family. She believes she is a lapdog although she's never been allowed on furniture she would happily sit in your lap if you gave her the chance & she's a cuddler. She doesn't bark a lot but will alert if somebody is walking past or approaching the house. She is used to being an indoor/outdoor dog & her crate inside is her safe space.
