Story
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM AUNT BO! Aunt Bo is a sweet 8-year-old Chow Chow mix in need of a foster or forever home. Like most seniors she's sweet & quiet & gentle. She has been fine around other dogs so far and is in good health, though we noticed a small lump (hopefully fatty) on her so will get that checked out soon. If you can open your home and heart to an sweet older girl in the new year, please email for an application.

Story
Meet Bear, the Akita mix! Bear came to the Shelter after his previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him. He lived in a home with other dogs and really enjoyed their company. At the Shelter, staff have incorporated Bear into playgroups and report that he really seems to enjoy the interaction – doing big goofy play bows and romping around with his canine friends. A home with another dog would likely be a great enrichment to Bear’s life. When first meeting people, Bear can be a bit cautious (this can be fairly typical of the breed so we definitely recommend doing some research prior to adoption). But with time and patience, Bear warms up – knows sit, gives small kisses and walks nicely on leash. In his previous home, Bear spent a lot of time outdoors so he may need some patience in the transition into indoor living. His previous guardian reports that he is a curious dog who is treat motivated and loves to run. Bear has lived with cats and may do well with dog-savvy cats provided there is a thoughtful, slow introduction. He loves riding in the car and putting his head out the window to smell the fresh air. Bear would thrive with a dog savvy adopter and in a home that is lower traffic and/or in a quieter neighborhood (think country living!). Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
