Story
Meet Lily!Lily is a stunning 3-year-old, 63-pound Akita mix with striking blue eyes and a heart full of love. Found as a stray, she was struggling to care for her own puppies and a few other newborns that had been left with her. Despite her tough start, Lily has shown nothing but sweetness and incredible maternal care. This gentle girl is wonderfully patient—she even allowed her temporary foster to give her a bath without any fuss! Lily knows how to walk on a leash and waits patiently for her walks to do her business, making her an easy companion.Lily is ready to leave her challenging past behind and find a forever home where she can be cherished for the amazing dog she is. Could Lily be the one for you?IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.February 3, 2025, 9:37 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hey, I’m Oso! I’m a 1-year-old Chow Chow weighing in at 38 pounds of pure, lovable personality. I’m not your typical “cuddle on the couch” kind of guy—I prefer to lay on the floor, near you (but not too close). I’m a chill dude who likes affection, but I’m more of a “pet me and let me explore the world” kind of pup. I’m also super friendly, but I need a proper introduction to new people—once we’re friends, I’m all in! I’m a pretty easy-going guy, except for one little thing—I love being outside. If I’m outside, you’ll have to work a little to get me back inside. (Chasing me around the yard? Oh yeah, it’s a game!) But honestly, a little exercise is all I need to settle down. Sometimes I get the “crazy eyes” in the morning, and I just need to burn off some energy—don’t worry, I’m easy to calm down with a good walk or play session. Speaking of play, I’m a big fan of chewing bones, playing with toys, and chasing sticks or balls for a little while. I do tend to play rough, so if I’m going to live with another dog, they should be my size or bigger. I’m totally treat-motivated (who isn’t, right?), so training me is a breeze. I already know “sit,” “down,” “wait,” and I’ll even shake for treats! I’m also really polite at meal times, waiting for the okay before I dig in. I’m great with people, but I’m probably best suited for a home with kids over 10 because I can get a bit excited running around (I might knock them over, but not on purpose, I swear!). I’m potty trained and have never had an accident in the house—ever! I do bark a bit when new people come over or if I’m in my kennel, but I settle down quickly. I’m not a fan of cats—let’s just say, I have a bit of a high prey drive and like to chase them. But I’m great with dogs my size or bigger, and I’d love a playmate if you have one! I’m also pretty low-maintenance in terms of crate training; I’ll bark a little at first, but I settle down fast. No destructive behavior here—I’m a good boy and love to keep things nice and tidy. So if you're looking for a smart, strong-willed, and playful pup who loves the outdoors, is great with treats, and wants to keep your yard free of squirrels and rabbits, I’m your guy! I’m easy-going, ride well in the car, and I’ll sleep soundly by your bed all night. What more could you ask for? *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Story
Are you needing a loving and snuggly man for Valentine's Day?  Grandpa is the guy for you!     He loves to look longingly into your eyes while you pet his sweet head.  He gives the best kisses.  And because he came from Arkansas, Grandpa's coat is not Minnesota-ready, so he is ALL IN for hugs and snuggles.   He is estimated to be 8-years old and is pretty active.  Like all Malamutes, he is very people-oriented and wants to be with his family.  He likes to play and is learning to sing with our 5 other resident dogs.     Since he was in an Arkansas shelter for quite some time, he could be kennelled, but he would rather be out and about.  For the first few nights, when it was -20, we kept him in a 4-ft tall open pen to make sure he would not get "stuck" outside before he learned to consistently use the doggie door.  He rides great in a car and is fully house-trained.  Grandpa has great manners, does not counter surf, takes treats very gently, and knows sit, shake, and lay down too.  It's been too cold to take him for walks yet, but he was great on leash at pickup.  He is rarely left alone for more than an hour as we work from home. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $250.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 26, 2025, 1:52 pm
