Story
My name is Bolton....call me Bolt for short - I am 2yrs & 10 months old - and a bit of challenge....even though I am handsome with those big cab door ears and smiling - I don`t always do well under stress. I am ok with cats....but not so much with dogs, and no kids for me and I need a fenced yard. I like to chill out in my room at the shelter, when I go for walks I do pretty good...but I like to jump up. I was not a big fan of toys...BUT I have been in a foster home and I have learned all about toys and I am liking it!!! According to my foster, I am a one person kind of guy...I love to cuddle and I like to be the center of attention!!! I will happily be your shadow....and I will follow you everywhere. I am definitely a good looking boy who is just waiting for his special person to arrive.I was part of a cruelty case with 19 dogs....so many of us were very scared and under-socialized....but I do pretty good despite where I came from....but I still am fearful of certain things.

Story
Jack Jolly and his friend Little Bear came to JR from a local person who was evicted from her home because the property was sold.  This little family lived in a mobile home and, even from the outside, it was obvious the inside was deplorable.  Being surrendered to Joyful Rescue was the bet thing that ever happened to these two and now they have a chance to live in a healthier environment in their sunset years.  They both had significant hair loss from being infested with fleas causing flea dermatitis with a secondary bacterial infection.  On top of this Jack had a collar, not completely around his neck, but around his neck and embedded in his arm pit with a gaping hole showing muscle!!!  Then we are told by the owner that we might want to put him down as he bites human and is not good with other dogs.  Alrighty then....   We tried to cut the collar off, but we were going to be bitten and it was there that long so we made an appointment the next day for neuter and collar removal and he physically healed well.  Since Jack lived so close to the rescue, we were a bit concerned that he may try to make his way back home, but shortly after the animals and humans left the trailer it burned down during the night!  The fire was investigated, but no outcome was made as to the origin.  Another part of this story is that Jack, on almost a daily basis when he lived in the trailer, would leave his yard and come over to the rescue and watch the other dogs through the fence.  Not knowing his name at that time we would yell out the window 'Go home neighbor dog!' and he would run home.  Jack was born about October 22, 2012 and, thankfully, only weigh about 10 lbs.  Update:  As I write this Jack has been here two years and is a very happy little dog but only one person here can touch him without getting bitten and that would be me.  If he comes up and put hi feet on my leg I know I can touch his sides for a good rub down, but if another dog come up he will go after the dog and if I try to touch him when he is not asking to be touched, I may well get bit.  So, Jack lives here mostly peaceful and here he will stay until his dying day because a normal home environment would endanger humans.  Jack is a Joyful Sanctuary dog and he truly is loved by the humans who live and work here, but the love is from a distance.  He is happy and healthy and, truly, he is adorable and funny!   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $__N/A______. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. Story
In memory of Josephine Catanese UPDATE 4/10/24 Ivy was adopted and we told the adopters every single bad thing we could and tried to prepare them for the creature that is Ivy.  They promised they could handle her.  Ivy of course was returned and was ecstatic to be back.  She is now a sanctuary pet and will live out the rest of her days living every dog's dream.  Welcome home Ivy.     Please read EVERYTHING below if you are interested in this dog!  We are getting so many applications for Ivy and we love this girl and she is a blast to live with, but she is not for everyone.  We've received applications for her from humans that work full time and there is no other dog and another where the humans wanted a dog to alert them if someone comes to the door.....Please read as we want Ivy happy and we want you happy.   Ivy was born around October 15, 2019 and weighs about 17 pounds. Ivy came in with 6 puppies that were only days old.  Ivy was an incredibly attentive mother and her pups are now grown.  It's Ivy's turn to live the pampered life!   Ivy is ADORABLE!  She loves to cuddle in the evening when the day is done, but during the day she is playing with the other dogs, running, racing, having a ball and she is very agile!  We found her balancing on the bottom rungs of the kitchen stool the other day - just for fun.  Ivy is leash trained and loves her daily walks, she’s so curious about everything outside! She makes us laugh every day! Ivy is good with other dogs and with kids and rides well in the car.  Ivy was introduced to a cat the other day and she didn't pay any attention to it. She also loves to snuggle! UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM: Ivy is very affectionate - she loves people very quickly. She is very happy to cuddle up with you at night in your favorite spot. She would like someone that is home most of the time. Ivy is deaf - you can vacuum right next to her and she doesn’t move. She will lay in a dog bed in whatever room you are in.  She does not do well in a crate, while you are not home.  She does do well in a crate in the car though. She is a climber and very clever.  A home with a lot of fine antiques would not be the best fit for her.  And it's not unusual for us to find her on the kitchen counter or table or jumping in your micro-green planter.  We know that she enjoys quiche and if that is gone the golumpki is fair game - you will not be able to leave food unattended.  While slowly warming 1 1/2 enchilada with a side of Spanish rice on the stove one evening it all simply disappeared!   Ivy!!!   Oh that's right, can't yell at her - she's deaf!  And she adores helping you with your paperwork whether it's shuffling paper or knocking your laptop on the floor.  She would like a spot where she can look out the window - maybe she is part cat??  A wood fenced (or solid vinyl) yard would be good for her because we are pretty sure she can climb a chain link.  Ivy is a strong and fearless swimmer - she may be small in size but NOT personality!   Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Story
COURTESY POST 🌟 This Meatball is anything but spicy, but rather a sweet senior gent who just isn't digging city life. This 10-year-old was adopted from us in 2017, and since, he and his owner moved to New York City. But despite their best efforts, Meatball isn't thriving. He's dealing with some arthritis which he's on supplements for, and just got his first injectable treatment, which seems to have helped. Along with that, he's not a big fan of all the excitement or other dogs the moment he steps outside. Meatball's owner loves him very much, but since moving is not an option, we're helping find him a new, quiet home while hopefully avoiding coming all the way back here or sitting in a kennel elsewhere. Here's what else his owner says: "He is a quiet, funny, well-behaved little old man. Meatball takes time to warm up to people, but once he feels comfortable with you, he loves to sit on your lap for pets and snuggle up for warmth. He loves to play tug and enjoys squeaky toys, but he has yet to figure out how to play fetch." She even had a DNA test done and Meatball is mostly a Jack Russell-type terrier with some other fun stuff mixed in there. Meatball is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Due to his arthritis pain, we're not recommending a home with little kids or other dogs. We're not sure about cats. We'd also love to find him a place outside the city. It may be a needle in a haystack, but Meatball so deserves a happy, quiet suburban retirement home. PLEASE READ: Meatball is NOT with us at the shelter, but is located in the Queens area of NYC. Apply to adopt at www.secondchanceas.org/adopt. We will process applications and contact Meatball's owner to arrange meet and greets. There will be a small rehoming fee. ✔️ PA kennel license #04944
