Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sasha (SC) is a female Jack Russell Terrier mix estimated to be 9 weeks old at the time of intake in mid-July 2024. Sasha is up to date on core vaccines (age-appropriate) and is microchipped. Sasha will be spayed prior to joining her forever home unless there is a medical reason why it has not yet been completed (in which case RDR NYC will work with the adopter to ensure this is done at the appropriate time). Sasha is good with adults, children and other dogs. We found  Sasha in a shelter suffering from a congenital defect that was not being treated, so we scooped Sasha up and took her to our veterinary partner where she had successful surgery to repair an esophageal defect. Sasha is now better than new! Sasha is an adorable little pup who is friendly and super sweet. If you would like Sasha to grow up as a member of your family, please apply online to adopt Sasha (SC) at www.rescuedogsrocknyc.org.  Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 1:32 am

Story
Meet Dodo🖤🤍 Dodo was rescued along with two other dogs, Dodam and Dorang, from a dog meat farm in Korea. Despite witnessing the cruelty of their fellow companions dying, Dodo still wagged his tail when he saw people. He is now in a foster home and doing well. * Interaction with people: Loves people and communicates well emotionally. Displays intimacy to strangers. Becomes full of charms once people become  familiar to him.  * Interaction with dogs: Wants to make friends with and approaches other dogs first with wagging his tail. Is whining and looking for caregivers when bothered by other dogs. * Interaction with cats: Trembles in fear when encountering cats. * Separation Anxiety: Enjoys his time alone but occasionally tears tissue or pads.  * Potty Training: Outdoor potty. Comes to foster and is whining indoors when nature calls him.  * Hygiene: Accepts baths calmly and does not make a fuss in getting dryed, brushed, and toenail trimmed. * Walks: Was afraid of unfamiliar environments or sounds but gradually improving. Was scared of steps before but currently overcame the fear.  * Car Sickness: Does not get car sickness and looks out the window in a car while being held.  * Follows the commands such as "Sit," "Paw," "The other paw," "Hi-five," "Come here" and "Wait." Can understand "Wait" even in English.

Story
PAIGE - 1.5 yrs, 18 lbs, Chi/Terrier, Spayed  Is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program starting that day. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Parent Says: "Paige is an extremely special girl. She’s friendly, playful, loves to nap and is generally incredibly friendly once she’s comfortable. She loves being with her people and is content to take long naps if they are within her line of sight. That being said, she does have minor separation anxiety. She won’t bark for hours but she will whine at the door. She also tends to be a little shadow, if you move, she will move unless she is super sleepy. She sleeps really well through the night and loves to snuggle on the bed. Sometimes a noise will make her bolt up but she will go back to sleep within minutes. Feeding her can be a little tricky, she will run away from the bowl at first but I found that giving her a taste and putting the bowl near her will motivate her enough to eat it all. She also really loves chicken or beef broth mixed in with her dry food. She’s a big fan of long walks and does pretty well on a leash, she does need some training as she does tend to dart after birds, rats and squirrels. Paige loves treats and toys, she especially loves playing fetch but in the sense that she’ll retrieve the item, run past you, and then sit on a designated spot surrounded by her favorites. She’s an absolutely wonderful little girl and is ideal for someone looking for a companion that will take her on adventures, play with her, and spend a lot of time in each other’s orbit. She has an adorably playful disposition and will make you laugh all day. She’s clever, expressive, and uses her giant ears and big eyes to convey multitudes." Level of dog ownership experience needed: INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level  MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty TrainedYes -- Few or no accidentsComfy with strangers?Yep -- Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.*will occasionally get scared and bark but calms down pretty fast* Good with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for all ages -- very gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy with humansGood with Other Dogs?Mostly -- Generally good with other dogs but may be picky (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example)Good with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)Yes -- Seems to get along with other animals, either tries to play with them or is mostly uninterestedNote: my cats co-exist with her well but she does chase them and sometimes they get into tiny play Spats. She seems fascinating by them and they tolerate her.Mouthy Behavior? High – Is either still in the puppy stage or was never trained to not be mouthy. Wants to put everything in their mouth. Respectful of body parts but will chew on things. Need to make sure your house is tidy and she has plenty of things to chew on/keep her busy. Leash Manners?Getting the Hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in its life but he/she is figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction. Okay in the city?Getting the Hang of It  -- Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue)Jumping on People to Say Hi?Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction.Separation Anxiety? Lower  – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone.Crate training? Working on it – We set one up and leave the door open but rarely close it because the dog freaks out when we do. Note: she doesn’t freak out at all, she’s just not super interested in it but will sit in the crate when I’m in the shower or kitchen which is where it is. Medical status: Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. DONUT - 18 weeks & 16lbs (as of 9/27), Terrier Mix, Spayed   Estimated to Be About 40lbs Full Grown  - Mom is Paige  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Says: "Donut has had my heart since the day I picked her up. She’s the sweetest little girl who loves to cuddle and give kisses and say hello to everyone she encounters. She loves belly and lower back rubs and has the cutest little butt wiggles. She has a lot of energy and loves to play with toys and balls but also loves to nap. She’s the best snuggle buddy for both watching TV and sleeping. She loves long walks and sniffing all of her surroundings. We’re still working on potty training outside, but she’s pretty good about using the weewee pad when in the house. She’s a great social companion and has become well-known at a few local places. She also helps me and whoever I’m with make friends with her adorable charm. She’s just the best pup and anyone who adopts her will be lucky to have her." Level of dog ownership experience needed: INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained? Working On it - great with pee pads, learning to go outside. On par for her age.  Cuddle bug level:  High - Donut is super cuddly!  Comfy with strangers? Yes - super duper friendly!  Social with dogs?Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to.  Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Yes… but most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with cats?Yes. Donut LOVES cats. Has one in her foster home. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy behavior: High! All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp though, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Leash manners: Getting the Hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in its life but he/she is figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction. Okay in the city? Yes - Doing great here.  Jumping to say hi? High - Very excited to greet everyone and has no idea how to do so politely. Jumps up on most strangers or other dogs that go by. In puppy phase or wasn’t trained as a young adult. We’re working on it. Separation anxiety? Nope -  Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or do anything shitty when you leave the apartment or house.Crate trained? Crate Trained?  Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Their Foster Parent Says: "I feel like I lucked out fostering Goblin; he’s a perfect little city dog. Goblin is a couch potato and loves to sleep, but he can also be playful. He LOVES going outside, and my favorite thing about him is his little happy dance when he’s ready to go. He’s completely potty trained and good with strangers. He loves to say hi to other dogs on the street, but he’s great on a leash and won’t pull you in any direction. I haven’t heard Goblin bark once in the time we’ve been together. There’s been no chewing. I haven’t put him in a crate, but he’s usually asleep on the same spot on the couch when I get home. We haven’t interacted with kids, so I’m not sure how he feels about them. And everywhere we go, people love his ears." Level of dog ownership experience needed:FLEXIBLE: We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog’s adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which usually come with expensive veterinary bills and time in vet offices. Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult.  Energy level LOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs. Cuddle Bug Level Medium — Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed Potty TrainedYes — Few or no accidents Comfy with strangers? Yep — Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello. Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision) We haven’t been around kids, so I don’t knowSocial with Other Dogs?Mostly — Generally good with other dogs but may be picky (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example) Respectful of Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)Not Sure - We are able to cat test for approved adopters. Due to age/breed should be an okay fit for a home with cat(s). Mouthy Behavior? Nope – Past this stage of his life. Respectful with his mouth.  Leash Manners?Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction. Okay in the city?Yes — Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here.Jumping on People to Say Hi?Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction. Separation Anxiety?Nope– Fine being home alone, no issue Crate training? Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one). How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas.
