Story
Hes not Perfect. He’s such a sweet loyal soul. A protector at its finest. Has a personality of a human. He’s my best friend & this is hard for me. I’m transferring jobs which means I can’t give him the happiness he deserves, which sucks.. but I’m hoping a loving family takes him in & make him the happiest dog in the world.

Story
Taco is the best! He's full of so much life and so much energy. He's always up for going outside to play and loves when other dogs are around. He's incredibly social with other dogs and children. He's also the greatest dog on earth to play fetch with. You can throw the tennis ball with him for hours and he's bring it back to you each time (but for some reason wants you to take it out of his mouth lol). If you're someone who wants companionship or a dog that gives you an excuse to stay active each day, Taco's your guy. It breaks me that I can't keep Taco anymore, but I'm on the road 2-3 times a month for work and am usually distracted with work even when I'm home. It's not right and Taco deserves someone who can give him the time and attention he deserves. He's well trained, housebroken and listens well.

ELIASN - 16 weeks, 8 lbs, Terrier Mix, Neutered Expected Full Grown Size About 25 lbs Mom is PerlaThis puppy is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Parents Say: "Elias is such a sweetie! He's definitely still getting used to the sights and sounds of the city but he is settling in well He is a bouncy little pup who will come up to you for snuggles when he warms up to you. Elias is a little shy at first, but will come up tails wagging to anyone he's met before. He's the perfect size for anyone living in the city and will bring so much joy to his new family!" Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy level MEDIUM: Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle Bug LevelMed - Likes affection but is also happy to chill by themself Potty TrainedWorking on this skill. Puppies under 12 weeks old are often on track with their wee pad skills, but they’re too young to walk outside in public NYC areas yet because they haven’t finished their puppy vaccine series. Puppies older than 12 weeks are usually learning to do their business outside. Potty training takes a lot of patience, consistency, and clean up.  Comfy with strangers? Wallflower - Takes a minute to warm up to new people Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision) -Yes for 12 and up  - most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with dogs?Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to. Social with cats?Yes. Almost all puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy Play: High! -  All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp though, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Leash manners - getting the hang of it Okay in the city? Adjusting Okay - Still working on his confidence but doing alright Jumping on People to Say Hi?Medium - will jump up on people when excitedSeparation Anxiety?Lower - might cry for a few minutes, settles down after a bit and is fine home alone Crate training?Yep/mostly  - (I use a playpen and not a crate! Not sure how he does in a crate)  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer uponHow this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
BEN - 2 years, 20lbs, Terrier Mix, Neutered  PLEASE NOTE: Needs home out of the city. Does best out of the city and has sep anxiety (not destructive) but does make noise.  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Parent Says: "Benny is a sweet, loving, and energetic boy who absolutely thrives on routine and companionship. He has a playful spirit and loves his toys, especially his favorite stuffed animal. Playtime is a highlight of his day, and he is always ready for a fun session of fetching or just cuddling with his toys. Benny has a gentle nature and is never aggressive—he doesn’t snap or bark at people and enjoys affection and pets, always seeking to be near his person. Although Benny is still adjusting to life in the big city, he is learning to navigate new experiences. He can be a little timid and jumpy, particularly around other dogs or unexpected things like bikes and runners, but with patience and reassurance, he continues to grow in confidence. He may occasionally growl at other dogs on walks, but this is just his way of expressing unease as he settles into his surroundings. Benny is a loyal companion and loves to stay close to his people. He shows his affection in sweet ways, like placing his paw on you when he wants attention—such a precious gesture! His sleeping habits are great, and he sleeps peacefully through the night after a day full of play and walks. He is very high-energy and enjoys his long walks, especially his daily 90-minute morning outing, followed by playtime and naps as you work. His routine includes more walks in the afternoon and evening, keeping him active and content. Benny does have some separation anxiety and may bark when left alone, and he’s not fond of the crate just yet, so a little extra time and patience may help him feel more comfortable. Despite these minor challenges, Benny is an absolute joy to be around. His sweet nature, high energy, and need for human connection make him an endearing companion for someone who is looking for a loyal and loving dog. With time and care, Benny will continue to thrive and bring love and joy into any home." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle Bug LevelMedium— Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed  Potty Trained?Yes— Few or no accidents Comfy with strangers?Sort of— Fine with meeting new people but not particularly interested, kind of shy in busy social situations like a gathering or a packed day in the park. Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for 12 and up— may be a little energetic or a little skittish, best with older children that can be extra gentle or that are big enough not to get accidentally knocked down Social with Other Dogs?Still working on it— Needs some more socialization training or may just be a dog that prefers human company Respectful of Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)Sort of— Seems to chase squirrels and birds and comes on a little strong so probably not a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc. Mouthy Behavior?Low– Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff — only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones. Leash Manners?Getting the Hang of it– Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in its life but he/she is figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction. Okay in the city?Sort of— Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue) Jumping on People to Say Hi?Medium– Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction. Separation Anxiety?High– Completely freaks out when left alone. Barks and cries the entire time and/or destroys stuff. Crate training?Working on it– We set one up and leave the door open but rarely close it because the dog freaks out when we do. Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. Story
Snazzy is a quirky, silly 5-6-year-old, 7-pound spayed female terrier mix from the NYCACC. We don't know much about her past as she was a stray. has adjusted very well during her time with her foster family in the city.  She is shy with new humans, but with a few treats she is all tail wags and kisses.   She's been to dog friendly bars, shopping at Target, and home over the holidays with her foster mom.   She travels well in a bag or on a lap in a car.  Snazzy loves activities, puzz;es. and her squeaky toyscuddling.  She knows how to "sit" and is also able to stand on her hind legs for an increbibly long time like a trick dog!  Snazzy would be a super fun dog to do trick training with as she thrives on mental stimulation and pleasing her human.  She also is an excellent snuggler!    During her time with her foster family, she is doing well with a combination of pee pad and leash walks for doing her business outside. Snazzy loves walks and walks wonderfully on a leash both solo and with her foster siblings .   She greets new humans and dogs with friendly curiousity. She loves saying  hi to dogs of all size on the street,  has been brought from everything  but would prefer to be the only dog in the home. or with a non-reactive male small dog.   In her foster home she is amicable with two mellow and nonreactive Chihuahuas, but only after experienced conditioning. Snazzy's new family forever family will need to continue working with Snazzy to reinforce and advance the progress she's been making.   Once Snazzy becomes bonded with a person, she (may) seek to "protect" her person from other dogs, and her new paw parent will need to work with to prevent that habit.    So far she has been a gem, and can be fed with her siblings as well as have toys around them. When Snazzy first arrived she collected socks into a pile and guarded them.   Wih positive condidioning, she now brings socks and toys to her foster parents and drops them for fetch! Snazzy would thrive in a home with a confident family to work on her insecurity  Snazzy doesn't use a crate as she's fine with being left on her own for a few hours with some toys and chews.    She likes to nap on the sofa or curl up in her little bed.    She loves to be cozy with her foster family and can be found most often on the sofa or oh top of the laundry bag with her favorite toy or a sock.  She loves to curl up on laps! Snazzy is looking for a moderately active family to play and keep her busy. She appreciates nap time and active moments equally.    She attaches easily would like most to be an only dog; she wants all the love, or a home with at least a one human to dog ratio,  She likes her own lap,but can swap out!   ! We would recommend Snazzy go to a home without children. Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Heartworm negative, spayed and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. To apply for Snazzy, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the animal is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org ##2202431##
