Thier Foster Parent Says: "Paige is a perfect companion who would do well in the city or the suburbs. She loves her people and has hugely expressive and lovable ears, and is all together relatively low maintenance, happy little buddy. Paige is fully potty trained (the only foster dog I've had who has had ZERO accidents, even during the transition period) and has no problems holding her pee even when her schedule is mixed up a bit. She is crate trained and sleeps with the crate shut each night with no fuss (but would also be happy to just crash on the couch if that was more your style). She is always excited to snuggle when she wakes up and will hop up on the bed for a cuddle when she is let out of the crate in the morning. She is happy to go for a run first thing in the morning or snooze with you until 10 am if you feel like sleeping in.After her breakfast, we usually take her on a long walk (60 - 90 minutes). She has had playdates with some other dogs we know and has done fine, but sometimes barks at other dogs while on the leash so she is working on being less reactive to them. She can also be a little nervous/skittish meeting new people, but is very affectionate to people she knows and has a very endaring way of waddling up to say hello. After her walk, she will usually snooze on the couch or enjoys a frozen kong or a bully stick. She overall enjoys her crate and will sometimes go in on her own to hang out during the day. She loves her chew toys and has been respectful of our stuff (has not chewed up any furniture or other items that are not hers). She has not had any separation anxiety, and is fine being left home alone with something to chew on (lick matt, frozen kong, bully sticky). We have also taken her on runs (~4 miles) and hikes and she has been a great exercise buddy."
Level of dog ownership experience needed:
INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.)
Energy level
MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)

Okay in the city?Getting the Hang of It -- Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue)Jumping on People to Say Hi?Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction.Separation Anxiety? Lower – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone.Crate training? Working on it – We set one up and leave the door open but rarely close it because the dog freaks out when we do. Note: she doesn’t freak out at all, she’s just not super interested in it but will sit in the crate when I’m in the shower or kitchen which is where it is.
Medical status:
Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
