Story
Jermaine is a playful and active 5-month-old Jack Russell Terrier who has been gaining lots of confidence during his time in NYC. He’s still getting used to walking on the busy streets (especially in the cold!) but loves sniffing everything around him. Jermaine has tons of energy and loves to play—it’s hard to get him to stop! But once he’s tired, he’ll happily settle down for a long nap and sleeps through the night without any issues.   Jermaine is 90% pee pad trained and making great progress. He’s a quiet pup but will make playful sounds when he’s excited or having fun. He gets along wonderfully with kids and ALL dogs and hasn’t been cat-tested yet. With a strong appetite and love for treats, Jermaine is highly motivated to learn and is currently working on commands like “sit.”   This eager little guy brings so much joy with his silly, funny personality and boundless enthusiasm. Jermaine would thrive in an active home where he can play, explore, and have zoomies. He’s ready to bring lots of love and laughter to his forever family! Story
Snazzy is a super smart and silly 5-6-year-old, 7-pound spayed female terrier mix from the NYCACC. Snazzy loves equally to play fetch and to snuggle.  She is shy with new humans, but with a few treats she is all tail wags and kisses.   She's been to dog friendly bars, shopping at Target, and home over the holidays with her foster mom.   She travels well in a bag or on a lap in a car.  Snazzy loves activities, puzz;es. and her squeaky toyscuddling.  She knows how to "sit" and is also able to stand on her hind legs for an increbibly long time like a trick dog!  Snazzy would be a super fun dog to do trick training with as she thrives on mental stimulation and pleasing her human.  She also is an excellent snuggler!    During her time with her foster family, she is doing well with a combination of pee pad and leash walks for doing her business outside. Snazzy loves walks and walks wonderfully on a leash both solo and with her foster siblings .   She greets new humans and dogs with friendly curiousity. She loves saying  hi to dogs of all size on the street,  has been brought from everything  but would prefer to be the only dog in the home. or with a non-reactive male small dog.   In her foster home she is amicable with two mellow and nonreactive Chihuahuas, but only after experienced conditioning. Snazzy's new family forever family will need to continue working with Snazzy to reinforce and advance the progress she's been making.   Once Snazzy becomes bonded with a person, she (may) seek to "protect" her person from other dogs, and her new paw parent will need to work with to prevent that habit.    So far she has been a gem, and can be fed with her siblings as well as have toys around them. When Snazzy first arrived she collected socks into a pile and guarded them.   Wih positive condidioning, she now brings socks and toys to her foster parents and drops them for fetch! Snazzy would thrive in a home with a confident family to work on her insecurity  Snazzy doesn't use a crate as she's fine with being left on her own for a few hours with some toys and chews.    She likes to nap on the sofa or curl up in her little bed.    She loves to be cozy with her foster family and can be found most often on the sofa or oh top of the laundry bag with her favorite toy or a sock.  She loves to curl up on laps! Snazzy is looking for a moderately active family to play and keep her busy. She appreciates nap time and active moments equally.    She attaches easily would like most to be an only dog; she wants all the love, or a home with at least a one human to dog ratio,  She likes her own lap,but can swap out!   ! We would recommend Snazzy go to a home without children. Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Heartworm negative, spayed and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. To apply for Snazzy, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. Story
Charlie is a 7-year-old, 15-pound female terrier mix from Alabama. Charlie was rescued from a known abuse situation so is very timid at first and scares easily with fast movements or loud noises. Charlie is very cuddly once she feels comfortable, and ends up being a velcro dog once she is attached. She follows her foster mom everywhere. She loves to go out on walks and is usually great at not minding other dogs or people. She will get spooked with loud noises, or if anyone tries to pet her. He future owner will need to advocate for her space and not allow strangers to approach her or pet her. When someone enters the apartment, she barks at first, runs and hide, and then comes out with her tail wagging to sniff the person. She'll then usually just retreat back to her bed while they visit. She has been wee wee pad trained while in her foster home but it still scared on walks outside and hasn't gotten the hang out an outside bathroom schedule. She is a yappier dog that squeals when spooked, and suffers from separation anxiety and barks when left alone.  Her foster mom has been working on this with Charlie but her ideal home will be one where her family is home most of the day or in a less densely populated are. Charlie lives with both dogs and cats now. She is great with other dogs and tries to play with cats so may annoy a resident cat who prefers their space. Charlie should live in a home without children do to her initial fear and anxiety. Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Story
LEON - 4.5 months, 12lbs, Terrier Mix, Neutered Expected Full Grown Size About 25lbs  This puppy is joining Social Tees on 1/11 and is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program starting that day. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy levelMEDIUM: Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Working on this skill. Puppies under 12 weeks old are often on track with their wee pad skills, but they’re too young to walk outside in public NYC areas yet because they haven’t finished their puppy vaccine series. Puppies older than 12 weeks are usually learning to do their business outside. Potty training takes a lot of patience, consistency, and clean up.  Crate trained?Nope. None of our new puppies have been formally trained, but many of our foster parents/adopters choose to crate train. It can be a great way to keep puppies safe and teach them independence. Social with dogs?Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to.  Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Yes… but most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with cats?Yes. Almost all puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy play: High! All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp though, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Leash manners:None. :) Will need to learn this skill.   Separation anxiety:MEDIUM: Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10+ minutes when they are left home alone or in a crate. Consistent training and alone time is crucial. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer uponHow this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
