Story
Hi there! My name is Alfie, and I’m on the lookout for a family that can keep up with my energy and love my goofy antics! I’m a 30-pound Jack Russell/Beagle mix, and even though I’m 1 year old, I still act like the playful puppy that I am. I was rescued from a southern shelter just in the nick of time, and now I’m hanging out with my foster family in Battle Creek, MI, on the lookout for my forever home.   I’ve got a body that just can’t stop wiggling with excitement, but I’m super treat-motivated, so I think I’ll be easy to train. I’m crate-trained and housebroken, and I have an obsession with shoes if left unsupervised. I think it’s because they smell like my people!I adore my dog siblings and my 10-year-old human foster sister, although sometimes they remind me to chill out when I get a little too excited. I love to play with them, but I respect their space when they need a break. Because I’m still working through my puppy nibbling phase, I’d probably do best in a home with older children. I enjoy going on walks, but my absolute favorite thing is chasing squirrels, so I’ll need a fully FENCED-IN YARD to keep me safe during my squirrel patrols! I also ride well in the car, but I might need a little help getting in.My dream forever family is active, ready to help me work on my puppy habits, and willing to shower me with as much love as I’m ready to give them. I appear to have a lot of confidence when with my siblings but one on one, I am the shyest of the group. I have learned the routine at the shelter, and I follow others well. I really would do my best with another dog in the home to help me gain confidence. Unless you have experience with pups with low social skills. My current weight as on 7/12/24 was 17-18 pounds. I am doing better and would do much better in a quiet setting where I could relax and get more one-on-one attention and work. I will make a wonderful pet for the right situation; I just might need a little more work with confidence and socialization than your typical puppy. Pending observed interaction, I should do well with older children. I should adjust to a cat in the home. I will require a physically fenced yard. Pending previous experience and observed interaction, I should be fine with children 8 years and older. I should adjust to a dog friendly cat with a slow and positive introduction.
