Story
Hi, I am a 16.5 year young Jack Russell. I ended up at the shelter due to no fault of my own and my foster people say I am the best boy. I am very energetic for my age and would enjoy walks, play time and I LOVE water. If you get the hose out, I will be your best friend. I do fine with other low-key dogs. I am in good health with just some minor old man bumps. I'm looking for a home to spend the rest of my days filled with love and play. I sleep through the night and do well in a crate during the day. If you look for me, I'm usually hanging out on the back of the couch or with my people giving little licks. I promise to give my family the best love if they take a chance on an old guy like me. ADOPTION PROCESS 1. Review our adoption contract and application. 2. Call your vet and references to inform them that a rescue representative will be calling. 3. Complete adoption application and submit following appropriate link below: Dog/Puppy: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HRMD/Dog Cat/kitten: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HRMD/Cat It takes us about 1-3 days to process applications. Story
Meet Goose! This little lady came to us all the way back in January 2024 after she was found dumped alongside several other dogs. Goose has spent most of her time learning that people are not so scary and that she can have two-legged friends as well as four-legged friends. Goose is looking for an extremely quiet, patient home that will allow her to come into her personality at her own pace. She is not a fan of being held, or pet by new people. She LOVES treats. Snacks are the quickest way to Goose's heart. That, or if you have a doggy pal to keep her company. We would prefer Goose go to a home with another dog as she loves the company of other dogs. They seem to give her a very big boost in confidence and she can always be found snuggled up with her buddies. Goose is still working on her leash walking and has been doing okay with walking with a slip lead. We have not tried to put a collar/harness on her and would recommend her adopters use a slip lead on her until she is more settled. If you have some extra TLC to give and a calm, quiet home then stop by and visit her today! Goose is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/13329Meet Zoey – A Sweet, Gentle Companion with a Heart Full of Love!Name: ZoeyGender: FemaleBreed: Jack Russell Terrier MixAge: 9 years youngWeight: 12 lbs.Current Location: Frederick County, MDAbout ZoeyHi there! I’m Zoey, a 9-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix with a gentle soul and a big heart (literally—I have a unique heart-shaped spot on my side!). OPH rescued me, and I’m now enjoying life with my foster family in Maryland. I may be a bit shy at first, but with patience and kindness, I warm up quickly and will soon become your most devoted companion.PersonalityI’m a calm, easy-going girl who loves gentle attention. I’ll nudge your hand or press my nose against your leg to let you know I’m ready for some love. Once I feel comfortable, I’ll follow you around, snuggle up at night, and even stash a few toys in my crate. My foster mom says I’m an absolute joy, bringing a warm, peaceful presence to the home.Routine and Daily LifeEvery morning, I take a slow stroll around the backyard to check on things, and at night, I head out for a final potty break. While I’m not one for a lot of excitement, I do have a job to do—making sure no unwelcome visitors enter the yard! I bark to let intruders know this space is protected. My eyesight isn’t what it used to be (thanks to cataracts), so my foster family has put up motion-sensor lights to help me find my way along my ‘trail’ without bumping into anything. When it comes to stairs, I’m not a fan. I tried them once, but I’ve decided they’re not for me. If stairs can’t be avoided, my foster mom helps me out by carrying me, which I appreciate so much.Energy LevelI’m a low-key, peaceful soul who enjoys quiet moments and gentle company. I may be a terrier, but I’m not a high-energy one—I’d rather spend time with my people in a relaxed environment. I enjoy short walks, exploring the backyard, and occasional playtime, though I’m working on staying trim under the vet’s advice. My treats are limited for now, but I still savor a snack now and then!Health and Special ConsiderationsI recently had a dental cleaning, and though I’ve lost a few teeth, I still eat like a champ! I also have a slight heart murmur that’s well managed with the help of a cardiologist. My vision has dimmed over time, and my bladder sometimes has a mind of its own, so my foster mom places pee pads where I rest as a precaution. I try to let my family know when I need to go outside, but the pads give us peace of mind.CompanionshipI’m looking for a calm, patient family who will appreciate me for who I am—a loyal, affectionate companion who takes a little time to warm up. I would do best in a low-key home where I can enjoy my golden years surrounded by understanding and love.Love and AffectionIf you’re looking for a gentle, sweet friend to share quiet days and cozy nights, I’m your girl! I may be a bit camera-shy, but my heart-shaped spot is ready to remind you each day of the love and joy I’ll bring to your life. Apply to meet me, and let’s see if we’re the perfect match!

ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/12742Meet Ben – The Quirky, Lovable Companion You Never Knew You Needed!Name: BenGender: MaleBreed: Mixed BreedAge: 3 yearsWeight: 30 lbsCurrent Location: Parsonsburg, MD.About BenMeet Ben, a charming, quirky 3-year-old mixed breed who’s guaranteed to keep you smiling. Weighing in at just 30 pounds, Ben brings a lot of personality in a small package. He loves to be the center of attention, especially with other dogs, and will happily bark to make sure they know he’s around! With his unique mix of lovable quirks and his natural talent for snuggling, Ben’s sure to be your perfect companion.PersonalityBen has a playful, goofy side that’s hard to resist. From chasing his tail to sitting with his bone during family movie nights, he’s all about providing entertainment. He’s also a certified snuggle expert—he’ll jump right up on the couch or bed to curl up with you, and his favorite spot is on your lap. Ben is a big fan of head and belly scratches and will happily bask in the attention. See me being silly here!Energy LevelBen enjoys a good outdoor stroll and exploring the world around him. Though he may get a little distracted, he’s always game for a wander. Inside, he’s a bit of a homebody who loves his crate (set up next to his foster mom’s work desk) and his own cozy bed. He’s learning to feel safe in his spaces, and his own little “zones” help him feel secure and loved. I love bringing my toys into my crate to play. Watch me here!Skills and TrainingBen is food-motivated and loves toys, which makes him a great student for learning new tricks! He’s shown he can let his people know when he needs a bathroom break by barking and running to the door. While he’s generally good with potty training, he may need a bit of patience in new environments as he adjusts. With a little time, he’ll find his routine and feel right at home.CompanionshipBen would do best in a home without small children since he’s still working on understanding personal space. Kids 6 and older are more his speed, and he enjoys their company when they’re calm and gentle. Ben is also happiest in a home where someone can spend time with him, especially as he settles in. He loves being part of the family and is truly content when he’s surrounded by his people.Love and AffectionIf you’re looking for a lovable companion who’s equal parts snuggler and entertainer, Ben is your guy. He’s ready to bring joy, laughs, and lots of love to his forever family. Apply to adopt him today—this sweet, silly boy is ready to become a cherished member of your home! To see me feeling some head-scratch bliss, click here! Please Note: This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. The disease was treated while in foster care. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Learn more about heartworm disease here.

ISSUES WHEN GONE: Pee and poop accidents. * We got Max when he was 1 1/2, in Oct he will be 9. The people we got him from neglected him, his ribs was showing, he smelled awful, he was quiet and guarded. Max has come a long way since that day. He's picked up weight needed and he's very vocal. Though to this day when hes done something wrong, he sometimes runs off/backing away. Max doesn't like to be alone. A few years back the vet mentioned he may have anxiety, it seems more of a seperation thing, once we leave he acts out and has accidents. The vet did mention maybe behavior training? Maybe if another animal was around so he had a play buddy would help also? Hes never been violent to this point. He loves kids, walks, and cuddles. He follows you everywhere, like a shadow. I just want him in a good home, have lots of attention, given alot of love, and someone with patience. With my families health issues myself included, I am unable to be at home as often. Finances are also tight.

Story
Buddy appears to be a Jack Russell Terrier/other terrier mix. He is around 1 year of age and weighs 24 pounds. He was found under a bridge in one of the local dumping areas. It is no surprise that Buddy was scared when we first got him, but he quickly warmed up. He loves getting attention from his people. He loves pets and being close to his humans. He loves belly rubs and will roll over on his back whenever you bend over to pick him up. Buddy is small but mighty. He is muscular and high-energy and requires exercise. He loves to run and wrestle with other dogs. Sometimes, he can be naughty and will intimidate one of our more submissive dogs. Yet he backs down when one of the chihuahuas or another dog puts him in his place. Buddy is generally a good boy, and training is a work in progress. He listens well and comes when called. He is crate-trained and fairly well-behaved in the house. We are working on teaching him manners. He gets jumpy when he wants attention and more training is needed. He responds well to "no" and the "tsch" correction (as used by Cesar Milan). It would be best if applicants have dog experience and are willing to hire a trainer if necessary. Buddy would love his new family to play with him, take him on walks, cuddle, and give him a lot of affection and belly rubs. Buddy must be an inside dog and a loved member of the family. He must be walked on a leash and have a secure, fenced yard to run and play. Buddy is neutered, tattooed, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies), and microchipped. He is heartworm-negative and receives monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Buddy is ready to change his zip code. He is located in Texas but can be transported after he is adopted. Buddy's adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport by a reputable and trusted transport company. Scheduled stops include, but are not limited to, Hagerstown or Linthicum Heights MD. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Somehow, while I wasn't looking, I've gotten to be a senior dog. But know that I have been adored all my life and have learned very well how to give that love back. I was a companion to an older lady who is no longer here for me and would be a perfect match for a similar person. I've got this down! Cuddle, snuggle, sleep next to my person in bed, enjoy lots of pets. I give my whole self to be loved and think of you as the light of my whole world. I will always be there for you, close by and ready to feel your touch. I am well house trained, too. Humans seem to like that part a lot! In case you don't believe me, here is what my foster has to say about me: Penny is just about the perfect little senior dog. She loves adults, children, dogs, and cats. She is house trained. She loves to snuggle during the evening and she must be allowed to sleep in bed with her family. She does well on a leash but does love to gaze at the sky in her fosters fenced yard and sun herself. She would love to have another calm dog to snuggle with too!She loved her spa day and came home to foster prancing around like a new girl!!The only requirements for Penny is she was evidently used to having her food homemade. She must get a family that will love her and make her homemade food.Penny has been vetted, gotten all her shots, and is ready to find her new home.  If you are interested in Penny, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:13 pm
