Story
Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.small sweetie ready to play! SAM NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Sam and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (12/8) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Rockville, MD (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!   Name:  Sam      Best Guess for Breed: Jack Russell terrier and chihuahua mix   Best Guess for Age:   2 years as of April 2024       SEX: Male   Approximate Weight:  23 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. Sam cannot go to a home with kids under age 15.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster   Check out this video of Sam: https://youtube.com/shorts/N-9ZEnGu1XM?si=Vof5zYEnwQRfa8Iq   Special adoption considerations: Sam is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Sam needs to go to a home with a resident dog to help him gain more confidence. he cannot go to a home with kids under age 15. Sam is nervous around men and tries to resource guard the things he values. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Sam is Looking For:   His forever home! This cutie, through no fault of his own, landed in the shelter. He's looking forward to his new chapter, eagerly awaiting all the sniffy walks he will get with his new humans, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up. He's out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog, knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under his own roof, and that's right at the top of his wish list. Right now, he's shy and unsure in new environments, so he needs extra patient and loving adopters who will help him become more confident in new places, and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog! In exchange, he offers all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags he's stockpiling at the shelter and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Can you see Sam trotting by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Sam is adjusting very well and becoming more confident every day. He is still shy when outside and will stay close on walks while he frequently looks at you. He understands going to the bathroom outside but has his favorite places to go - #1 is the dog park!   Inside he is more bouncy and playful. He does have a rougher play style but hasn’t been destructive with anything. He gets along well with the resident dog and they play a lot. I would describe his energy level as medium+. He gets nervous when he sees big dogs and wants to observe them before greeting.   He is learning house manners, basic commands, and takes gentle corrections well. He does very well in the crate and will settle when asked. He loves giving and receiving affection and has the potential to be a snuggler given time and patience so he can fully relax in his environment.   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. MAC NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:  Mac         Best Guess for Breed:  Jack Russell terrier and Chihuahua mix Best Guess for Age: 8 months as of November 2024        SEX: Male   Approximate Weight:  11 lbs as of November 2024; he is still growing!   Gets Along With:   Mac does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested if you have them.  We would be cautious placing Mac in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.   Special adoption considerations:   Because Mac is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog.    Mac is Looking For:   His forever home! This sweet shy boy and his sister Tina landed in the shelter along with their mama Faith through no fault of their own. Mac is eager to have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps, and all the adventures they can dream up. Right now, though, he's confused and scared, and doesn't have enough experience in new settings. He's looking for extra loving and patient adopters who will show him the world at his pace and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog.    Mac is a young boy, not long out of puppyhood, and has so much to see and do. He's got so many adoring gazes and little tail wags, so much loyalty and love in him for his new humans.  What do you say? Does he get to see the world with you? Do you get all the love he has to offer? What My Foster Says About Me:   Mac is the bestest boy! He is the perfect blend of playful and cuddly and will have bursts of playtime followed by lots of snuggles. He will even put himself in his crate when he's ready for a rest. He has done well playing with my resident dog and is respectful of the resident cat when she tells him to leave her alone. He can be nervous around loud noises, especially cars, but is quickly learning that he is safe.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. She's shy but just the sweetest girl.  I can tell she is a cuddle bug and wants to be near her humans. She wants to be by your side and has done great just laying around during the day, sleeping in a dog bed or in her crate. She's a slow walker because her little legs probably make it hard to move quickly, but overall, she's an easy walker since she doesn't pull. She sleeps well in her crate so far!  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Story
Kano is such an energetic little guy! He absolutely loves to play in the yard, especially with the kids. You should see him during water play; he just lights up! Long walks and hikes are his favorite adventures, and he has this hilarious habit of running alongside skateboards and bikes until his little legs can’t keep up anymore. What’s really impressive is that Kano is super well-behaved—he never has accidents indoors and happily goes to his crate when you say ‘go to bed.’ He even listens when you tell him, ‘don’t do anything dumb’—he’ll come right over and sit next to you instead! He shares his home with two cats, a turtle, and a rabbit, and he gets along with everyone. Whether it’s playing with other dogs, kids, or even meeting new people, Kano’s friendliness just shines through. He’s such a joy to have around!

Story
If you're looking for a best friend that will want to join you in all your outdoor adventures, ride in the car with you for any field trip, then snuggle up at the end of the day to watch a movie, then look no further! Jax is a 12 year old, 16 lb Jack Russell Terrier. But don't let his age fool you, he is still full of fun and energy and is ready to begin the next phase of his life! Jax had an owner all his life, who he sadly lost in November. Jax would love to find a person, or family, that has the time and love to dedicate to him. He's probably prefer to be an only dog, but he'd be okay in a home with other dogs as well, preferably smaller dogs. He had some separation anxiety when he first moved into his foster home, but who can blame him after the loss he went through. He's mostly house trained and can now stay home alone for a few hours. Jax is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $250 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/13944**$100 off of adoption fee in December!Meet Taz – A Gentle Soul on a Journey to TrustName: TazGender: MaleBreed: Jack Russell MixAge: 10 yearsWeight: 14 lbsCurrent Location: King William, VAAbout TazHi! My name is Taz. I’m a 10-year-old Jack Russell mix who’s learning to open up to the world around me. Life didn’t start off easy for me, but I’m looking forward to a safe, happy future in a loving home.PersonalityI’m a bit nervous around new people and situations, but I find comfort in being with my brother, Tom. I like to follow his lead and sometimes hide behind him when I’m feeling unsure. With gentle encouragement, I’m beginning to enjoy my foster mom’s pets and kind gestures.Energy LevelI’m quite a calm guy who’s content to stay in my little spot. A quiet home with a peaceful environment would be ideal for me as I build confidence.Skills and TrainingI’m still learning the basics like leash walking and potty training, but my foster mom says I’m making progress. I’ll need a family who can be patient with me and help me develop these new skills at my own pace.CompanionshipI would do best with a quiet, patient family who can help me feel safe and secure. With time and understanding, I’ll continue to come out of my shell and show my gentle, sweet nature.Love and AffectionI may be a bit shy at first, but I have a lot of love to give once I feel safe. I’m learning every day that affection is a good thing, and I’m beginning to trust the gentle hands of my foster mom. With the right family, I know I’ll grow into a loyal, loving companion who’s grateful for every bit of kindness.

We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.
