Story
Lyra just turned 8. She is a Shepherd Husky mix. She loves people and is great with kids. She sits, shakes and stays on command, loves to go on walks and car rides, is crate trained and is an all around goodess girl. My daughter rescued her from the humane society in Dubuque and has had her for most of her life. Unfortunately, my daughter moved and can no longer have her. She would do best as an only pet, as she has aggressed on other pets.

Hi all! I came to the shelter with a buddy, we used to play together before he got adopted. I am happy to meet new people and I can get jumpy at times, but am usually pretty gentle. I like running and checking out everyone and everything here at the shelter, you could call me curious. I just want to see everything and go exploring. I respond well to treats and praise, I will sit even before being asked in hopes of getting a treat. I would probably do very well in a home with another dog to show me how to behave and children over 6 years old. I have met some kids at the shelter and they get showered with kisses, I love everyone I have met here at the shelter. And since I like people I get to go on outings in the community, you may have even seen me at Harvest Fest last year. I graduated from basic obedience training on January 14th with Simba, we did really well. I do need to work on "stay" but will cooperate with "sit" and "leave it" commands. Meet Juliana! She will involve herself in all the family activities. True to her breed, she’s vocal, but unlike most huskies, she would prefer to stay inside when the weather is cold. Juliana is laughably clumsy, and she’s awkwardly cuddly, with many of the typical husky characteristics. Juliana is great with cats, female dogs, and non dominant male dogs as she wants to be in charge. Her clumsiness means she may unintentionally knock a small child right over. Juliana would love a home with a doggy friend to play with, hearty cats to groom, and a person who doesn’t mind 50 lb dog sitting in their lap. A survivor of parvo as a puppy, Juliana flew all the way from Kuwait to find a better life. She is up to date on vaccinations, tested heartworm negative, spayed, and had a dental. Her prior parvo infection has left her with a weird neurological tick of her rear leg and weaker enamel, so no hard chews for her. She is kennel trained and mostly potty trained, but does still have accidents.

We adopted Korra from a friend when she was just under a year old, she is now 4 years old. Korra is a very friendly dog to people and loves our cats. She gets along great with my niece and nephew ( 5 and 8yr old). She has a lot of energy that sometimes gets redirected at the other dogs poorly. She has snapped at them when overstimulated. We worry that if this escalates it could turn into a bite. I do not want this to happen. She is a great friendly dog. I just think the number of dogs, and ours being older, is not a good match for her. She does great when she spends the weekend with a friend away from the pack. She seems calmer and happier with one on one attention. I feel that she would do great in a single dog household.

Serenity, also known as CiciHuskyFemale5 years oldGood with dogs and very shy of peopleCici was a surrender from an Amish farmer that the state closed down due to neglect and bad conditions. She was used for breed purposes only. We believe she had at least 8 litters. Cici needs a home with another playful pup, and a fenced-in yard is a must.Cici has a heart condition, and because of that, she can not be spayed. There is a surgery to correct it, but their is a high chance she may not make it through the procedure. We have decided to let her live out her days, and we want her to have the very best. Cici is very sweet but is shy of people petting her. This girl has not 1 mean bone in her body. She is a dog that loves to lay in front of a door and soak up the warm sun. She is currently being fostered with lots of other dogs and small kids.apply at wbdr.org
