You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Atlas! Atlas is new to the shelter and still settling in, but he's already impressing us with his charm and curiosity. This handsome boy is up-to-date on all his vaccinations, including his Lyme vaccine, and is one of the rare pups who tested negative for Lyme! House-trained and a bit reserved at first, Atlas warms up nicely to adults. We’re still learning how he does with children, other dogs, and cats. Atlas is truly a regal dog with boundless energy and remarkable intelligence. He would thrive best in a home with an experienced leader who understands the needs of an active, bright dog. Without daily mental and physical challenges, his high energy and intellect can make him a little ornery—but with the right guidance, he’s bound to shine. This incredible companion is waiting to find his perfect match! Carder was brought into the shelter on 11/3/2024. He was given to someone in a Walmart parking lot, and she brought him home. She didn't need another dog, so she brought him to us. He is believed to be a husky mix of some kind. 8 weeks old and had his first vaccination. He is very sweet and a playful little thing. Would love to find a forever home soon as he is all by himself and lonely. Adoption fee is $100

Story
Nova is a beautiful 1-1/2 year old female Husky who arrived at the HSOV on December 5, 2023 after being picked up on Ohio Avenue in Belpre Ohio by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden. Nova was wearing a nice pink 'girlie' collar, but there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on her collar ... And she was not microchipped. Nova has a white/cream medium-haired coat with subtle black shading, a magnificent long curled fluffy tail, and a classic Husky face with a slender muzzle and large erect ears. Nova's left eye is brown and her right eye is pale blue. This little sweetheart has a happy, outgoing personality and was full of playful mischief when HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Jared Nash accompanied her for outdoor glamour photos on December 6th. Nova was in good hands with Jared and Nova pranced around posed as though she was a wanna-be contestant in the Westminster 'Best of Show' competition. Nova weighs 47 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. We've learned that Nova is NOT good cats. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Nova was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for this beautiful girl. UPDATE: Nova went home with a foster family on February 7, 2024 who plans to adopt her after she is spayed. Nova was spayed on February 13, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. Nova came back to the HSOV on July 23, 2024 and is available for adoption. Nova was adopted on July 27, 2024 but, unfortunately, Nova was returned on July 29, 2024 because she was exhibiting food aggression behavior. This beautiful girl is looking for an experienced handler who can help her overcome her behavior around food.

Story
Wade is a handsome 5-year old male Husky/German Shepherd mix who was brought to the HSOV on July 31, 2024 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who picked him up on Eddy Ridge Road in the New Matamoras Ohio area. Wade was not wearing a collar, and he was no microchipped. Wade has a light brown-and-cream short smooth coat, a long bushy tail, and an adorable face with a cream-colored mark, dark brown eyes, a black button nose on his slender muzzle, and extra-large ears that he holds erect which he chooses to do so. This sweet guy has a fun-loving, outgoing personality and was in the height of his glory when HSOV Kennel Tech Hannah Mcclain accompanied him for outdoor photos later in the afternoon on the day he arrived. Wade was full of playful energy and was ready for fun-and-game with Hannah in spite of the hot, humid weather, and he always a happy 'smile' on his beautiful face. Wade does not appear to accept cats into his circle of friends. Wade weighs 57 lbs and is rather energetic on the other end of a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Wade will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. UPDATE: Wade was neutered on September 3, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. Wade went home with a foster family on October 27, 2024 who plans to adopt him if all goes well.

Story
Cicada (fka Mira) is a beautiful female Husky mix puppy who was brought to the HSOV on March 6, 2024 along with her three siblings (Ember, Nani, and Odin) and her mother (Skye). They were also accompanied by a handsome male Plott Hound (Rocky). Cicada and her siblings were tiny 6-week old babies at that time. This little family was reportedly found in the Vincent, Ohio area at the Barlow Fairgrounds. This little playgirl has a sleek black short smooth coat with brindle shading on her legs/paws, a patch of white on her chest, a long tail, and an adorable puppy face with with amber-colored eyes, a black button nose on her slender muzzle, and large erect ears. Cicada and her sisters/brother were raised by their mother Skye in a quiet area of our shelter where they had their very own mini-apartment, and Skye was a good momma who knew when to discipline them and when to join in their silly puppy games to teach them to play and enjoy life. Cicada has a sweet, affectionate disposition and a playful, outgoing personality. These photos of Cicada were taken on April 23, 2024 when HSOV Volunteer Emma Dahlgren helped her with 'big girl' glamour pictures and a few fun-loving frivolous ones. This little lovebug has a personality that just won't quit (smile). Cicada weighed approximately 12-15 lbs that day and is still a growing girl.. Cicada has a sweet, affectionate disposition and a playful, outgoing personality. Cicada (and her sister Ember) are ready to begin interviewing candidates to be their forever family. Please submit an HSOV foster/adoption application for approval if you are interested in giving one or both of these girls a loving home. Cicada and Ember will be spayed before being officially adopted. Cicada's siblings (Nani and Odin) are in foster-to-adopt homes .. And her mother Skye went home with a foster family on May 3, 2024 who plans to adopt her after she is spayed. Update: Cicada was spayed on October 1, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Wolf is a majestic 1-1/2 year old male Husky who was surrendered by his family on September 9, 2024 because they were no longer able to physically take care of Wolf. This handsome young guy has a black medium smooth coat with white markings on his chest/legs, a long fluffy tail, and a beautiful Husky face with pale blue eyes, white eyebrows, and large erect ears. Wolf adored attention and was such a 'good boy' when HSOV Kennel Tech Cadince Bibbee accompanied him for outdoor photos on September 10, 2024. Wolf was quite content to remain close to Cadince and seemed to instinctively know that he was in good hands with her. Wolf weighs 50 lbs and is fairly strong on a leash. We don't know yet how Wolf feels about other dogs or children since it doesn't appear that he shared his previous home with them. Wolf does not do well with cats. Wolf has already been neutered, so he could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application. Update: Wolf went home with a foster family on October 18, 2024 who planned to adopt him if all went well. Unfortunately Wolf was returned to our shelter on October 22, 2024 and is currently on a mandatory 10-day bite quarantine.
