Here's what you need to know about me:I can be shy in new spaces. I need a family who will let me take things at my own pace as I learn about new things. Once I come out of my shell, I have lots of love to give.I'm easy going. Wanna go for a walk? Okay. Hang out in the yard? No problem. Just relax on the couch? I can do that. I'm pretty happy to go at your pace and I don't really need much more than most dogs do. If you're looking for a steady companion, I'm all yours. It's recommended I meet any kids living in my new home before I'm adopted. I just want to make sure we all get along.I would prefer to be the only dog in my new home. Meeting dogs makes me nervous.I'm available for Trial Adoption! If you're interested in taking me home for 2 weeks before making a final decision, please email adoptions@southwesthumane.org. Primary Color: Grey Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 54 Age: 5yrs 0mths 3wks

I need a family who will let me take things at my own pace as I learn about new things. Once I come out of my shell, I have lots of love to give.I'm an active dog! I would love to go home with a family who can help me burn off energy with exercise, playtime, and outdoor adventures.I'm not on the general adoption floor. Story
Three years ago this guy showed up on our property. He was being fostered about 5 miles from us and the lady said he was just too much dog for her. So we took him in and adopted him. After he adjusted to our family, we started seeing some signs of aggression with our other male dog. Well, the last two years have been horrible. There have been many dog fights, three of which required vet visits. I am terrified that one of these days our 12 year-old daughter is going to get bit. He does perfectly fine with our two female dogs, in fact, he submits to them. He’s really good with kids, doesn’t seem to care about cats. Chickens however, he will kill them. He doesn’t jump on you when greeted, and is not food aggressive. He is a great traveler. He is housebroken, but will spray if left alone. (I wonder how much of that has to do with having another mail in the house, though) He also loves his kennel and sleeps in it every night. He needs a family where he is the only male dog.

What my friends at OHS say about me:I am used to living an active lifestyle! I would love to get up and go adventure with you.I really enjoy the company of my human friends.I know some basic cues, such as sit. Anything for a treat!High Energy: I can become easily frustrated if my energy and exercise needs are not met. I will need positive outlets and a calm environment to help me flourish.Shy and Nervous: I can be worried about new people, new surroundings and touch. I prefer to take things at my own pace and will need to live in a calm environment. The type of home I'm looking for:It could be with you!

Heyo everyone, I'm Stratus! Haven't heard of me yet? Take a look at everything my friends here have to say about me!Like most huskies, I'm really smart, and I already know how to sit and walk nicely on leash. Even better? I love toys AND treats, so you'll have lots of ways to teach me new things!I am a bit shy with new people, but once I know you're my friend I love nothing more than to spend time with you. Whether it's leaning in for pets or going on a hike, as long as we're together, I'm happy!I'm an active pup and I love to play outside - going on adventures together would be great, but I'd be just as happy to romp around the yard with my toys. Anyone down for a game of fetch?I've had a lot of fun meeting other dogs at the shelter - my friends here think I'd be great at making new dog friends! Maybe me and your resident pup could have a play date?As a husky, I enjoy singing! I may not do well in an apartment or a home with shared walls.I'd really like to find my forever home soon! I'm even part of the Diamond in the Ruff program, which means we'll have plenty of time to get to know each other before we officially seal the deal! I'd love to get to know you - maybe you'd like to get to know me too? Then come stop by and say hi! Primary Color: White Weight: 65 Age: 3yrs 0mths 4wks

Video 1 (copy and paste into a new browser window) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLS7qQ0Yj1I Video 2 (copy and paste into a new browser window) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F91z-04nVI Badger is a husky mix who was listed at the shelter as 8 years old. When he first arrived, I thought he was much older and that he would be a hospice case. He was stiff and frozen in fear and skinny. He would barely move. I put him in a kennel with younger dogs and he soon found his youthful spirit again and is like a different dog now. I don't know his age for sure but he has lots of life and happiness left in him and I think he is younger than 8. He weighs about 60 lbs now. He learned how to climb out of the 6 ft chain link kennel but he doesn't stray far from it except to follow me on walks. He goes down the pond to take a dip but mostly just hangs out by the kennel. So while he has the skills of a husky to escape, he doesn't have the urge of a husky to run off and go explore. I don't even put him up when I leave because he doesn't go anywhere. He is great with other dogs but sometimes doesn't know how big he is so he wouldn't be good around scared little dogs. He is fine with my chihuahuas but they are very bossy and not scared of anything. For that reason, I also don't think he should be around cats. To be clear, he is not aggressive at all, he just tries to play with everything and with his size that just wouldn't work with a dog or cats that's scared of him. He is very food motivated and walks well on the leash as well. He is an awesome boy and I am glad he didn't die at the kill shelter. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue/reviews (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 2, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative) Adoption fee: $550 (includes the $250 cost of transport from Oklahoma and all vetting listed above) Adoption application (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://form.jotform.com/82677586784176 FAQs (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://docs.google.com/document/d/12eb_SRtk1AzaBl87UltcLJ24MjH9UhQm_LE77iWZEQA/edit?tab=t.0 Desiderata Rescue is Oklahoma Licensed Rescue #95
