Story
Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/application Please do not call the shelter; do the application first. Introducing Lexington, a gorgeous husky (about 2 1/2 years old) who arrived at the shelter back in May 2024 with a badly dislocated hip and pregnant. Thankfully, we had an open Special Needs Wing suite where she could live comfortably while waiting to give birth, without needing to climb into a kennel or deal with much walking to get out to her attached private yard. On July 15 2024, Lexington delivered 9 healthy, happy mixed breed babies. She faithfully cared for them until they were weaned, and the babies all found their forever homes. Then it was finally time to fix Lexington's hip! On Halloween, Lexi had FHO (femoral head [and neck] ostomy) surgery at a specialist in Spokane. Since having surgery, volunteers often snuggle up with Lexi on her big bed. She’s a favorite for sure! She pulls on a leash so we often use a harness when going for walks. She has blossomed into a playful, silly girl who shows her love to everyone at the shelter. You can’t help but give this beautiful 58-pound girl a smooch! She’s not good with cats and will chase them. Lexi has been introduced to Kenly our Great Pyrenees shelter resident, and she adores him and gets very excited to visit with him; he is her first dog friend post-surgery. We did introduce her to Zella, who is more energetic than Kenly, and Lexi seemed to be a bit afraid to play with Zella; seems like Lexi prefers large, calm doggos for her friends. She is housetrained and well mannered. The vet thinks she may have some residual lameness due to muscle atrophy, but should otherwise live a long and happy life. Lexi would love to have a securely fenced yard to give her the freedom to run and play without getting into trouble, as (typical for huskies) she is a runner. Please review the information on huskies if you are unfamiliar with the needs of this wonderful and challenging breed. https://www.aspcapetinsurance.com/resources/alaskan-huskies/ All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Lexington is a suggested minimum of $125 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts. Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!

Story
Cheyenne is a beautiful, elegant, soft, and mildly shy little girl who was dumped in the wilderness to fend for herself, and is suspected to be related to Shadow, an Australian Shepherd/Husky mix taken in from a neglectful situation. Cheyenne is estimated to be about a year old. She is a little shy when meeting new people, but once she gets comfortable, she has been great with the adults, children, and other dogs she's met. Cheyenne is still in the process of completing her veterinary (she needs her spay and rabies still), and will be fully adoptable when that is completed. In the meantime, we would love to find a foster or foster-to-adopt who can help build her confidence and exposure prior to spay! She and her sister love each other dearly, so we'd love to find the girls a home together, but they also enjoy the company of other dogs and Cheyenne enjoys having a doggy friend for confidence, so if Cheyenne & Shadow can't be placed together, the ideal home would have another doggy friend for Cheyenne to love, play with, and draw more confidence from!
