Story
Meet Paris! She is a 3 yr old spayed female Alaskan Husky mix that weighs 50 lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter with her sibling on 6/1 as a stray. Her sister was adopted so Paris is hoping she can find her own loving home. She walks well on a leash and takes treats gently. She enjoys running through the shelter yard and getting some exercise. She will look over the gate hoping that it will be her turn to have her own forever family soon. She does not show interest in toys or balls. She does enjoy being close to her human companions. She will roll over for tummy rub and have such a big smile on her face. Not only is she extremely attractive, but she is well behaved. Paris would love to find an active family where she can go on walks or hikes. Spend time in a secured back yard investigating. She has told me she must be an inside dog as she wants to stay cool and comfy. Having her own family to hang out with, spending quality time cuddling or just watching tv on the couch is what she deserves. Come meet this wonderful girl as she would make a great family companion!

Story
Mishka is a one year-old 38 pound blue-eyed Alaskan husky that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/10 as a stray. When I sat down on the bench she came to me and offered her paw. We sealed our friendship with a paw shake. Mishka is timid and somewhat skittish. Loud noises or sudden movements frighten her. A slow introduction is advised. Although she does know the shake command, she doesn’t appear to know the sit command. However, she does take treats gently. She romped in the yard but for the most part stayed close to me. When I sat down she came to me. She’s sweet, cautiously friendly, gentle, spirited, and happy. She was not interested in meeting other dogs. If you have another dog, please ask the shelter for a dog test. She walked tentatively on a leash. I feel like once she relaxes she will do better. She does not have the temperament to be an outside dog. She would love to snuggle up next to you on the cold winter nights or under the air conditioning in the summer. She will need a tall secure fence. She will also need frequent brushings.

Story
Riley is particularly stunning, fluffy and soft. He is a 2 yr old 66lb Alaskan Husky that came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/19 as a stray. I do not feel he has had much socialization. When I called him from across the yard, he cautiously approached me. He never actually came to me. But when I first took him into the yard, I brushed him. He was very patient and leaned into me. That indicated to me he really craved affection. He’s a very sweet, easy-going, gentle, calm boy that wants to make friends and wants to be loved. He just needs to learn what love is. He did do his business in the yard. He did not have any reaction to the other dogs. He walked well on a leash. He will need frequent brushings. He will need a tall secured fenced yard, in a home, not an apartment. Most importantly to live indoors to chill out with his new loving family.

Story
Juniper has come a long way from when she first arrived to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/20 as a stray. When she first arrived, she was very confused and scared and hunkered down in the back of her kennel. With staff and volunteers working with her and showering her with TLC she has responded. She is learning to relax and trust. However, she is still skittish. Loud noises and sudden movements startle her. She wants to make friends and will continue to come out of her shell. She sits on command. At this point, she didn’t take a treat and she is not eating much possibly due to a slit in her tongue. She is going to go to the vet to have this checked out. She is very alert scoping out her environment. She’s sweet. She’s also friendly and judging from her constant tail wags she’s happy. Huskies like to run and are therefore known to escape. This beautiful girl will need a tall secure fence. She will also need frequent brushings. She walks well on a leash and she did her business in the yard. She wants to be mostly an inside dog, but would like to have a yard to stretch her legs in. As soft as she is, she would make a great snuggle companion.

Rain is a fun loving dog. She has a lot of energy and a lot to say. She's 4 years old. She was born on February 9th 2020. She needs someone with a lot of energy to match hers. She doesn't do well with small dogs because she over powers them. She needs exercise and someone to spend a lot of quality time with.

Story
We adopted Archie 5 years ago but now need to re-home him due to a young child and not having the time to keep up with his needs. He’s a sweet dog who likes to lay around but also likes to be active every day and played with. He tolerates babies and young children but would probably do best in an active home with older children or no children. He gets along great with other dogs, however he does like being the alpha dog. He loves going to the dog park to play! He’s a talker like every other husky. He definitely needs a yard or land to roam. He is very smart and motivated by food. He has had professional obedience training, so he knows all of the commands, and knows how to walk on a leash correctly, but will only do those if you have a treat :) When going on walks he will pull for a few minutes and then get into the hang of it. We can show you how to walk him according to how he was trained.

Story
Age: 3 years Weight: 40 lbs Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Unknown Good with kids: Unknown Activity level: High Shedding Level: High Training: Basic, Leash Skylar is a gorgeous husky/shepherd mix with striking blue eyes. He is about 3 years old. Skylar had been injured during his time on the streets and had TPLO surgery on his leg last year. He has since recovered nicely. He absolutely loves to run and play! He likes to try to be in charge, but takes correction well. He loves to play with other dogs and get out his energy. He gets nervous with quick movements and takes a minute to adjust to new people and situations. With a little patience and plenty of treats he will warm right up and ask for pets. Once he is comfortable, he loves pets, giving kisses, and cuddling! He will even gently reach over and pull your hand back with his paw if you stop petting him before he is ready.  Skylar finished his training on basic obedience commands and socialization and is ready for a foster or forever home! Does Skylar sound like your kind of guy? Email placement@duckteam6.org or visit our website to fill out an application.March 21, 2025, 2:04 pm

Story
To say that Hanna adores human attention would be an understatement. This fluffy pup immediately mellows out whenever she receives affection from anyone – be it strangers, children, or the elderly. But don't be fooled by her antics. The moment it's time to return to her kennel, she unleashes the husky's trademark howl, serenading the shelter with her rendition of the "shelter dog blues." Her vocal prowess echoes throughout the center, leaving no doubt about her desire for companionship. In 2020, Hanna found her home through OHAR, where she lived alongside another dog and children. However, due to unforeseen hardships, her family faced tough decisions and returned her to OHAR. This turn of events has left Hanna heartbroken, yet she remains resilient, determined to find her fairy tale ending once again. Could you be the one to offer Hanna the love and stability she so deserves?Adoption Process: After your application is approved, a home visit is schedule. Story
We adopted Blue at 7ms old. He’s in need of a family who can give him all the love & exercise he deserves. He’s been put in intensive training, knows all commands & is crated/house trained. We want to be open & honest about his on-going issues w/ resource guarding since we adopted him. The training helped immensely, but has not resolved it fully. He is good w/ dogs that are trained & socialized only. He grew up w/ cats. We recently had a baby girl who he’s been truly amazing & calm around her to our pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, we no longer have the time or space to allow him to get his energy out. He needs the following: *experienced adopter who has the time to train him w/ his resource guarding *preferably w/ no other dogs or kids in the household *large yard He loves to cuddle, snuggle & play. He is truly an amazing loving pet & we only want him to keep thriving in a better environment suited for him. Rehoming fee includes large crate, leash & up to date vaccinations.

Story
Bailey is a wonderul companion. The only reason he is being given up for adoption is that my younger sister is expecting a baby. We cannot accommodate Bailey's needs for attention with a new babt coming. Since he is a big dog, he would not do well with an apartment dweller. He needs a fenced in yard; and in fact, perhaps a farm would be the ideal setting. He has been the "baby" of our family the entire 4 years of his life. He thinks and acts like a pampered pooch. Given his disposition and rearing, he might be a terrific pet for someone who needs an emotional support animal.
