Story
Are you ready to play? Spice is! Spice is a bundle of joy and constant motion! She is a four month old 19 pound (still growing) Siberian husky that came to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/15 as a stray. She is cream colored and has vibrant, blue eyes. She’s jubilant, playful, and somewhat comical. She will need to be provided with toys. She can entertain herself with them by tossing them in the air and then chasing them. She will need an active family and a yard for her to expend her energy in. She doesn’t appear to know the sit command. She does jump on you to get your attention. She likes to have her ears scratched. She didn’t have a problem meeting other dogs. She walked okay on a leash. Huskies like to run and therefore frequently try to escape. Spice will need a high secure fence. She will also need frequent brushings. She wants to be an inside dog mostly to enjoy family time with you. She will definitely add spice to your life!

Story
Zoolander could win a contest for being an outstandingly attractive dog. His soft cream coloring, hazel eyes and big stand-up ears make him a stand out! He could also win a personality contest. He’s a one-year-old 45 pound Canaan/Alaskan Husky dog that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/24 as a stray. He is already fixed! I was met in his kennel with tail wags indicating he’s a happy boy. When he got out in the yard, he investigated the yard thoroughly. He knows the sit command and takes treats gently. He then found a ball and brought it to me. He loved playing fetch. He didn’t want to stop. He stayed close. He seeks affection. He’s sweet, gentle, and cautiously friendly. He met the other dogs in the bay with tail wags. He jumped back when one barked at him. He walks fine on a leash. He did his business as soon as he got out into the yard. If you know anything about huskies you know they like to run and in so doing sometimes escape. He will need a tall secure fence. He will also need to be brushed frequently. Zoolander wants to be an inside dog mostly. The Super Bowl is coming up and he would love to watch the game with you. He promises to root for whatever team you are for!

Story
Meet sweet girl Kira, a Siberian Husky mix picked up as a stray by one of our officers and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/31. She weighs 49 pounds and is about a year old. She was spayed during her time at the shelter. This pup is one well-mannered, calm and gentle girl with a mellow personality. And yet she is lively and active, attempting a couple of times during the eval to entice me to play with her. She will look at you with those imploring beautiful blue eyes and it won`t take long for you to fall head over heels in love! She doesn`t appear to know any commands and wasn`t especially interested in toys or balls. She is friendly and liked being petted and loved on. Kira walks well on a leash. She enjoys treats, though doesn`t know to sit for them. It looks as though her owners have taken care of her nicely and yet here she is in a city shelter. She would do best living as an inside dog and being a part of the family rather than outside where she will not get much interaction. Huskies are known to be escape artists (especially if they are stuck in the yard) so she will need to be in a home with a high secure fence. Kira will need to be brushed on a regular basis. Oh, but the payoff for all of the care will be a loving and devoted companion.

Story
I am pleased to introduce to you this jewel of a girl I have named Pearl. Pearl was picked up as a stray on 2/5 to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. She weighs 60 pounds and is about 4 years old. My Dog Scanner app suggests an interesting array of possible breeds in her mix: Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky, Shiba Inu and Alaskan Klee Kai. This girl is a little cutie! She has the most beautiful brown soulful eyes, is well mannered and gentle. She is enthusiastic, active and alert. Pearl seems to have been adequately cared for and yet where are her people? She walks well on a leash. She may be house trained. She does not appear to know any commands and was not interested in the treats. She was a bit restless and would pace somewhat. She is a friendly, affectionate girl who wanted to be close and would lean into me. She likes to be loved on and petted. She needs to be brushed out on a regular basis. With all that fur, she will require an indoor life which we recommend for all our dogs. They all need the socialization, shelter and the security and love afforded close up by their people.

Rain is a fun loving dog. She has a lot of energy and a lot to say. She's 4 years old. She was born on February 9th 2020. She needs someone with a lot of energy to match hers. She doesn't do well with small dogs because she over powers them. She needs exercise and someone to spend a lot of quality time with.

Story
To say that Hanna adores human attention would be an understatement. This fluffy pup immediately mellows out whenever she receives affection from anyone – be it strangers, children, or the elderly. But don't be fooled by her antics. The moment it's time to return to her kennel, she unleashes the husky's trademark howl, serenading the shelter with her rendition of the "shelter dog blues." Her vocal prowess echoes throughout the center, leaving no doubt about her desire for companionship. In 2020, Hanna found her home through OHAR, where she lived alongside another dog and children. However, due to unforeseen hardships, her family faced tough decisions and returned her to OHAR. This turn of events has left Hanna heartbroken, yet she remains resilient, determined to find her fairy tale ending once again. Could you be the one to offer Hanna the love and stability she so deserves?Adoption Process: After your application is approved, a home visit is schedule. We will bring the pet to you and help with introductions to your current pet(s). You will then have a week with the pet to ensure they are the right fit for your home. At the end of the week, you finalize the adoption and the pet is officially part of your family! Learn more at ohar.org/adoptionprocess

Story
Bailey is a wonderul companion. The only reason he is being given up for adoption is that my younger sister is expecting a baby. We cannot accommodate Bailey's needs for attention with a new babt coming. Since he is a big dog, he would not do well with an apartment dweller. He needs a fenced in yard; and in fact, perhaps a farm would be the ideal setting. He has been the "baby" of our family the entire 4 years of his life. He thinks and acts like a pampered pooch. Given his disposition and rearing, he might be a terrific pet for someone who needs an emotional support animal.

Story
We took in Linguini a year ago. He is playful, energetic, and loves walks and cuddles! He is great with our two young children (excited initially but sweet) and has participated in a lot of training. He takes very well to it and enjoys the time spent working on his skills. Anyone who adopts him will get free training sessions with our trainer! Linguini currently lives with another dog who has some domineering behaviors. Unfortunately, it is escalating between the two. He has done well with other dogs with proper introduction at our boarding center and loves to play with other dogs. Linguini is shy around new people, especially men, but loves them once he knows them. He knows sit, place, stay, come, leave it, and is working on strong walking skills on the leash. He loves going for walks, loves playing catch, and loves taking long naps. He has not been with cats but does like to chase squirrels and is reactive on the leash so I do not think he would do well with cats.

Story
Kani (Kuh - Nee) is a sweet 6 year old baby who gets along with anybody and anything. She is clumsy, loves to be outside, loves Milk Bones, and loves hugs! Unfortunately, I am unable to provide her the additional attention she has been needing lately, and would love if she can be in a caring home or family that will give her all the love she needs. She loves to run outdoors, loves stomach rubs, and does drink lots of water! She’s up to date with all her vaccinations. She just received a recent check up and all is great with her. She is well mannered and loves to be around other huskies. She is also great at doggie day cares if that’s needed. Also, she does have hazy eyes. I took her to a doggie optometrist, and it’s a common thing in huskies per his statement. She has no issues with her visions. She also has a bed (actually two) I am willing to provide if you do decide to get her.
