Story
Bruno Mars is a beautiful husky and we're not lying when we say he is a TREASURE! Bruno Mars is an energetic and playful boy- you can Count On Me' when I say that you are sure to have a good time with him! Bruno Mars was surrendered to the shelter when his owner became sick and could no longer care for him. Huskies are active dogs and don't belong in the shelter- he feels like he's Locked Out of Heaven in here!
Bruno Mars is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly. He's hoping a kind person is coming for him soon- he promises to love you Just The Way You Are! If you're interested, please head to ACCT Philly any day from 10am-6pm.

During their first walk on December 20th, no issues were noted and Bruno Mars was noted to be of medium energy, with the team member stating they were a 'sweet boy'. During his second walk on December 20th, mild issues with jumpiness were noted for Bruno Mars, with a high energy level. The team member noted that Bruno Mars was 'so fun + playful! Loves to run'. During his walk on December 21st, no notes or ratings for the interaction were given. During Bruno Mars' walk on December 22nd, mild issues with shyness and jumpiness were listed, and he was noted to be of high energy with no other interaction notes. During his walk on December 23rd, Bruno Mars was noted to have mild issues with strong leash pulling, and very mild issues with jumpiness with a high energy level. The team member noted that Bruno Mars may be well-suited for the running team ("maybe running team"), and also noted that he "likes to be petted; nice, friendly; walked to cemetery - on a mission! takes treats nicely; lays down when asked to sit".
Per Volunteer 12/20/24: Bruno Mars was very wiggly and excited for leashing! He was jumping up on the door, but I was able to leash him by looping him up high. Such a fun energetic boy - he was trying to run all the way outside. He does pull on leash but very manageable. Loves to run and chase toys- he got the zoomies several times. He got a little jumpy on me but it was very gentle. He’s so fun!!! He loves treats and takes them gently. Knows sit and down- super smart boy. A ball of energy and fun! No issues returning to kennel.
Per Staff 12/19/24: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
Bruno Mars was sitting at the back of his kennel with neutral eyes. He cocked his head and came forward slowly with neutral eyes and body. When the handler opened the door BM got a burst of energy and did some excited toe taps and paced back and forth. Once the handler was able to leash him he came right out at a full run!
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled strongly
HANDLING:
Bruno Mars was excited to be out when he came into the room! He ran around and jumped up on the main handler to say hi. He was hesitant to take treats, but his previous owner said he can be a bit picky with food. He took some beef flavored treats very gently after he got some options. He showed us he knows “sit” and “down”. He allowed all handling but would stiffen with extensive handling. We got a DNA test on him and he did not like restraint. He stiffened and head whipped when I tried to bear hug him, and he pawed at a leash muzzle but we were able to muzzle and pin him without escalation. He did not hold a grudge afterward and returned to soliciting and taking treats. Overall Bruno Mars is a sweet boy with husky tendencies.
PLAY:
Aroused with play. Got jumpy and mouthy and whined a bit but did not escalate.
TOYS:
No interest at this time
12/18/24 volunteer notes: I approached Brunos kennel and he came straight to the kennel Door so he was eager to get out but his head bobbed up and down a bit so it took about 20 secs to leash him . Once leashed he hopped straight out and we went for a walk . As soon as we got to parking lot he picked up the pace and surprise surprise , the husky was a good runner .
He'd stop every so often and get right next to me looking for a treat which I'd give him and he knows sit and may know down. He never left the ground during the whole 15 min he was outside.
He allows all patting from me and we walked back in together easily and he hopped right back in easily. He's a very sweet boy.
Per owner: “Bites everything, knock down my baby, doesn’t like sleeping inside, he likes other dogs and like being outside most of the time, high energy. I wish he would not pulled me and I tried to give him a walk, he loves home meals most of the time. Has attempted to bite, friendly with strangers, children and dogs, likes to chase cats.”
Staff followed up with the owner to get more information on his behavior and bite attempts, the owner noted, “ in the home Bruno can be reactive to new people and takes ample time to warm up. He especially is reactive to (stranger) men and will lunge, growl, and snap at them if they try to interact with him.” In reference to Bruno Mars knocking down the baby, the owner said, “ he didn't mean to be, whenever he was happy, he will just jump on her if he was a very happy dog.”
Medical Notes:
Per an exam on 12/18: Bruno was noted to be in good general health.
