Story
Meet Novak - lovingly known as Parker - a 7-year-old, 46 lb. Husky mix with a heart as big as his comeback story! Quick Facts: Name: Novak (Parker) Breed: Husky/Shepherd Mix Age: 7 years old Weight: 46 lbs. House-Trained: Yes  Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes (older, gentle kids who can respect his boundaries) Energy Level: Medium Fence Required: Yes Special Note: Novak has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy and has had 3 seizures since being with the rescue. He is currently on Keppra twice a day to manage his condition. About Novak’s Breed: Our best guess is that Novak is a Husky/Shepherd mixed breed A Husky–Shepherd mix (a blend of the Siberian Husky and the German Shepherd) is typically an intelligent, loyal, and energetic companion. These dogs often combine the Husky’s playful spirit and endurance with the German Shepherd’s trainability and devotion to their people. They tend to be active, alert, and happiest when they have both physical exercise and mental stimulation. Their ideal home is with an experienced, confident owner who can provide consistent structure, positive reinforcement training, and plenty of daily activity. A fenced yard is often a great fit, as many enjoy running and exploring safely. Because they can form strong bonds with their families, they usually thrive in homes where they’re included in daily life and not left alone for long stretches. What to Love about Novak: Rescued as a stray in heartbreaking condition, he was severely underweight and suffering from significant hair loss. Fast forward to today, and this resilient boy has regained his healthy weight, grown back his beautiful coat, and blossomed into the sweet, soulful dog he was always meant to be. Novak has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy and is currently on Keppra twice a day. Despite this, he looks and acts like a happy, healthy pup and doesn't let his condition get him down! He continues to thrive physically and emotionally in foster care. Novak is totally potty trained and crate trained, and can be crated when you’re away. Given his past, he can sometimes guard his crate or resources—but he responds beautifully to calm redirection and treats. He’s smart and eager to learn! This handsome boy would love a patient, experienced family willing to move at his pace and continue building his confidence with positive reinforcement. Loud noises and quick movements can make him nervous, so a calm environment would help him feel secure. He has done well meeting a 9-year-old and would likely thrive with older, respectful children. Because of his resource guarding, a home without very young children would be best. Novak is fantastic with other dogs and enjoys spending time with the German Shepherd in his foster home. He also lives with four cats and does well with them—though he may occasionally try to chase one, he’s easily redirected. He can play a little rough with dog friends, but he is never aggressive with people. He loves walks (and is great on a leash!), car rides, and playing ball. A fenced-in yard would be a dream come true for him—a safe space to run, play, and burn off energy. While he has a playful and active side, he also enjoys lounging and relaxing at home. He strikes a wonderful balance between fun-loving and laid-back. Like most Huskies, Novak can be vocal, so apartment living wouldn’t be ideal. He would do best with someone who works from home or is home often—but he’ll also need gentle practice being alone to prevent separation anxiety. He may need to continue wearing his belly band long-term, but he tolerates it without fuss. At his core, Novak is incredibly sweet, funny, and smart. He has made amazing progress and is truly a joy to work with. More than anything, he wants to feel safe, loved, and part of a family of his own! Novak’s Noteworthy Highlights: • 7-year-old, 46 lb. Husky mix with a resilient comeback story • Fully recovered from being underweight with severe hair loss—now healthy and thriving • Smart, sweet, and eager to learn; responds well to positive reinforcement • Potty trained and crate trained and comfortable being crated when home alone • Wonderful with other dogs; enjoys playing (even if a little rough at times!) • Living successfully with 4 cats; easily redirected if he gets playful/chasey • Has done well with older, respectful children (met a 9-year-old and did great!) • Loves walks and is great on a leash • Enjoys car rides and adventures • Loves playing ball and would thrive with a fenced yard to run and play • Nice balance of playful energy and relaxed lounging at home • Affectionate and people-oriented—truly a sweetheart at his core • Looking for a patient, calm, experienced home where he won’t be alone too often If you have a calm home, a fenced yard, and a heart ready to give a deserving dog the TLC he’s been waiting for, Novak just might be your perfect match! Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Story
Meet Goosey, a stunning Siberian Husky who’s as sweet as she is beautiful! At a petite 40 pounds, she’s full of energy, love, and personality. Goosey is a total people-pleaser who gets along with other dogs and is generally submissive in her doggie relationships. She absolutely thrives on attention and is always ready to make new friends—two-legged or four-legged when out and about in the world.Goosey is an affectionate and mostly well-behaved girl, but she does like things her way and can be possessive of her toys, food, and personal space. She’s been making great progress with a trainer and is learning to share her world a bit more each day. To help her continue building on that success, her adopter should have experience with resource guarding and be ready to continue working with her trainer. With the right structure and support, Goosey can truly thrive. Given her needs, she’ll do best as the only pet in the home.As for crate time, she’s definitely not a fan—she’s a certified escape artist when it comes to her crate, often pulling off Houdini-level escapes! Because of her escape artistry, a 6-foot fence or an active home ready for regular leash walks is a must for her.If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate, and playful companion who will keep you on your toes, Goosey is the one! She's ready to bring her energy and love into your home, and she's sure to be your best friend for life.

Story
I adopted my Husky mix in August 2022. She is about 5.5 years old (the shelter estimated she was around 2 when I adopted her). She has a very sweet, gentle personality and is extremely tolerant and kind with children of all ages. She does well with other dogs and enjoys playing with them, though I am unsure how she is with cats or other small pets. Her energy level is generally calm in the home but she becomes playful on walks or when playing with other dogs. She enjoys activity in shorter bursts followed by relaxing. She is curious and a bit cat-like -she sometimes perches on the back of the couch to watch what is going on. She never barks and has a quiet, easygoing nature. She is food-motivated, smart, & a quick learner. She is crate trained but also does well left out while we are gone for several hours. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, & microchipped. She would make a wonderful family dog or a companion for someone who enjoys walks & a calm, affectionate dog at home.

Story
Bella is a great pup. I got her while at Repticon in Raliegh, NC. I believe she was born around December of 2024. Bella is a loving pup that can make fri3nds with anybody. She's great with kids and other animals. because she's young, she can get a bit over stimulated. We love her and have had great times, but due to her husky side, she's always escaping to go on adventures. Shes tall enough to jump over our fence. She needs a nice big yard to play in and a fence that's taller than 4 feet. She's house trained. She knows commands like sit, paw, cage. Bella would be a great family member for you!
