Meet Oscar, our big 80-pound Husky with an even bigger personality. At 4–5 years old, Oscar is everything Husky fans adore: active, fun, social, a little dramatic in the best way, and incredibly lovable. He’s a true “more to love” kind of dog who greets everyone with friendly enthusiasm. Huskies are unique dogs who shine with the right person, and Oscar is no different. He’ll thrive with someone Husky-savvy who understands their energy, smarts, and need for daily activity. Give him structure and adventure, and he’ll give you companionship, laughter, and plenty of affection. If you’re ready for a big, friendly, fun-loving partner, Oscar is waiting to meet you. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. Story
Aurora, our 4 year old Husky, is as beautiful as the northern lights she is named for! She's full of energy and loves to play, especially when she gets the zoomies! Like most huskies, she is an independent girl and can be a little aloof at first- once she warms up to you her affectionate side will start to shine. Because she can a bit shy at first with strangers, we are recommending an adult only home with some dog experience. She would be a perfect match for an active person seeking an intelligent and spirited dog to go on adventures with- hiking buddy, anyone? If you're looking for a striking looking dog who will reward your love and patience with companionship and adventure, Aurora might be the one for you! Give us a call at 516-869-6311 or email us at animalshelter@northhempsteadny.gov to learn more. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. Story
Here's our man, Milo! Milo is a 2-3yr old Siberian Husky and your new adventure buddy 🐾💙 This handsome 45lb pup is the total package—equal parts cuddle bug and outdoor enthusiast. He's living with a great Foster family who share that he’s incredibly affectionate and loves being close to his people, whether that’s soaking up belly rubs or just hanging out by your side. He’s happiest out exploring the world on walks, taking in all the sights and smells, and would love an active home to share his adventures with. Unlike many huskies, he’s more on the quiet side—so you get all the beauty without the constant serenades 😉 He’s fantastic with other dogs and would do great in a home with a canine companion or as your one-and-only best friend. 📍45 lbs (needs to gain 2-5lbs) 🐶 Dog-friendly 🚶‍♂️ Walk & outdoor lover 💤 Not overly vocal ❤️ Extremely affectionate If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and smart dog to add to your family, this sweet Husky boy might just be your perfect match 💫 Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhresuce@gmail.com) to get lots more info on him and we'd suggest submitting an Application for him that you'll find on the lrhrescue.com site because we think he's going to be very popular!

🚨 URGENT: ASTRO NEEDS A HOME BY FEBRUARY 20TH -Owner will surrender if home is not found BY February 20th 2 year old Husky/Shepherd/Lab mix • Neutered • 82 lbs Astro is a big, goofy, loving ball of energy who is about to lose the only home he’s ever known. His family can no longer keep him, and he is scheduled to be surrendered to the shelter on February 20th. We are desperately trying to find him a safe home before he enters the shelter system. This boy deserves a chance. He has lived with children ages 3 and 13. Astro is a very active, playful, affectionate young dog who loves fetch, tug of war, and being around his people. He’s crate trained, housetrained (with very rare accidents), and knows several cues: Sit, Down, Come, Paw, Lay, Stop, Stay (kinda!) He’s described by his owner as: “A big ball of love.” Good With Dogs -Astro loves his walks on leash. He has not been introduced to cats, no history, an introduction would be needed. 2 year old Husky/Shepherd/Lab mix • Neutered • 82 lbs Good with dogs and children
