Story
What a sweet duo. Bandit and his sister, Gracie, were surrendered to Helping Strays at 10 years of age. They are looking for a nice home to spend the rest of their years in. They are both housetrained and have very sweet personalities. They do need to be adopted as a pair since they have been together since birth. Being older they are on medications. If you can find in your heart to give this pair a great life, they would so appreciate it! Adoption fee has been waived.Bandit is 10 years old and weighs 92 pounds.Bandit's adoption fee has been covered by a generous donor. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Dogs may be in a foster home, therefore scheduling an appointment is recommended. If you have an existing dog at home, we recommend bringing it along to meet your possible new family member.helpingstrays.org

Story
Hello, I'm Sahara. I'm a young Husky mix who was found as a stray. My history is a mystery but the person fostering me said I'm a good girl. I do great except for chickens and goats- so no livestock for me. I'm gentle and love attention.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2245022##

Story
Neo is a beautiful 2+ year old husky.  He is housebroken and crate trained however he does not care for a crate and will let you know.   He can be okay with a cat with time but does like to chase them.  He loves his people and wants to be with them.  We are told he’s good with children but would likely be too much for toddlers.  He needs a fenced in yard but can climb a chain link fence but only seems to do it when trying to get to his people.   He is good with other dogs in a neutral environment, but he can   be dominate so tends to pick on the older and more submissive dogs in his foster home.  He’s affectionate and a good boy that needs the right home and someone who is familiar with huskies or have done their research on the breed .  If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Neo's adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Story
Hi, I’m Teddy! My foster mom says I’m the total package. She brags about how highly intelligent, charming, loving, and gentle I am. She calls me Teddy Bear but tries not to embarrass me by saying it around my many friends. I love kids of all ages and adults! And dogs are my favorite. I love to sniff and wag at the sight of any new friends I come across. My foster mom knows that I already know how to sit and shake (and I may have a few more tricks up my paw). I pride myself on being calm and chill—I don’t bark unless I’m in high-play mode. My mornings consist of waking up in my foster sister’s bed—she’s a cool teen with a super soft bed. But sometimes I end up in my dog bed next to hers, if I feel like it. My foster dad takes me out on a leash to go potty and for a walk, and then we eat breakfast. I may also enjoy a treat at that time. I then proceed to find my favorite spot on the couch and sleep or rest quietly. I fold in well to the lazy routine of my young Sheltie friend who is sharing his house with me. He loves to play chase but mostly sleep.  When we do play, I catch him easily with a slight trot, and try to be very gentle with him. He also loves to snuggle with me and at first, he was invading my personal space, but I’m cool with it now. Even though he’s like a stage-five clinger, he is sharing his family with me, so I’m grateful. I walk well on a leash and am easy going. But my foster mom would tell you that I’m a master at escaping. I love to run (don’t judge me—it’s in my DNA). The times I have snuck out, despite their best efforts, I took a bit of a joy run around their neighborhood and came back to hang around the house after. It is hard to get me to come in after I’ve been out like that, but they have managed and can share a few tricks and lessons learned. Ideally, you have light foot traffic in and out due to this and live in a neighborhood that is not by busy roads. Taking me out on long walks is ideal and especially when I first arrive, so I can get the lay of the land and know how to find you if I ever do get out by accident. If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Teddy's adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip.
