Story
**In a foster home and not at the kennel** This handsome guy is about 6 years old and 70 pounds. Deuce had a DNA test completed. The results are in and he is a Siberian Husky and Boxer mix. We thought for sure some Akita would be in there but what do we know? Deuce is a typical large breed dog- slow moving, calm, and laid back with short playful bursts of energy. He loves people and other dogs. Deuce knows sit, down, high five, shake, wait, stay, off and leave it. He is fully house trained and is currently in foster with an older male and younger female dog. His favorite things to do include time with his people, hikes, car rides and playtime, especially with other dogs. Deuce needs a knowledgeable and active adopter who can keep him challenged and set limits. Deuce initially displayed some food guarding at the kennel. This is not apparent in his foster care. However, his adopter will need to continue working with him so that it does not resurface. He needs an adult only home. Deuce would love a fenced in yard to safely explore. *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats*

Story
Hello everyone! My name is Nancy and I am an incredibly adorable and sweet 28 pound, 6 month old puppy. I am very well-mannered and the nice volunteers here have described me as connecting and having more of a docile nature. I love giving gentle kisses and leaning into my favorite humans for hugs. I love to please you, but I can be a little submissive. It would be wonderful if my new family could help build my confidence. I am very friendly, and I love to make new friends. If you have another nice doggy in the home, I would love to meet them. I have a tall, loose, playful approach with other dogs. I am a very good girl, and I would make anyone a great companion. I am still a puppy, which means I will need lots of attention and care, but I will bring lots of fun and playful energy into my new forever home along with a lot of love. I will be your very best friend from the moment you meet me. A home where any children are at least 4 years old is just what I need. If you are interested in Nancy and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
Oggie is absolutely stunning! He is estimated to be about 4 years old and weighs 52 pounds. Here are a few nice facts about him: More of a quiet, gentle soul Well-mannered A little timid Very attentive to you Loves to lean in for attention Just melts into you Gentle release of toys and knows “drop” Knows sit Looking for comfort and guidance Needs confidence building May prefer a quieter home to match his personality Needs a home where any children are at least 8 years old, more for his sake with his shy, gentle nature If there is another nice doggy sibling in the home, Oggie would love to meet them. He has a nice, calm approach with other dogs, but does retreat behind his handler when there is too much energy going on. He looks to you for reassurance, we think a calmer dog would be better for him If you are interested in Oggie and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. Story
Meet Looie! This one-year-old husky/shepherd mix is 61 pounds of pouncing perfection! In addition to being one of the most handsome boys around, Looie is also one of the most lovable. He's got such an engaging personality and its impossible not to smile when you're with him. Always up for a good time, some of our volunteers recently took him for an outing. Looie enjoyed every second of his three-mile hike and played in the snow all he could. He's good on his leash and also did well riding in the car. He shared lots of hugs with our volunteers and finished his adventure with a nice pup cup before heading back to the kennel. Looie loves hanging in the yard with his fellow kennel mates and would make an excellent pal for another fun-loving pup. As he is still a young man, Looie will benefit from continued training and daily exercise in his new home. A yard for him to enjoy is a must for our spirited boy. Based on our evaluation, we feel Looie would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. He may have the capability to live with other dogs as he has done well with them here at the kennel. We are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby! If you think he could be the pup you've been searching for, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your app for our lively Looie!

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)!
