Story
Husky experience & 6' fence required. No cats/small animals. Kids 12+. Luna is a 7yo husky. She came from IL where she kept escaping from an unsecured yard. She will test gates and fencing but does not go over. She does like making some independent landscaping decisions, but isn't very yard destructive and likely isn't going to quickly tunnel out as some huskies do. Luna does have epilepsy (a controllable disease that causes seizures) but doesn't have ANY seizures as long as she takes her pill twice a day. Her last refill at CVS cost $27 for a 2 month supply. Luna LOVES to run and play and regularly gets the husky zoomies. Her other most favorite thing in the world is being brushed. Luna is an absolute lover and loves getting loved on. Being brushed hits all of that for her. And is a major plus for you! Luna would do best with another chill male dog or on her own. She gets along great with her foster brother but has some resource guarding issues with her foster sister. As long as there aren't any toys down and her foster mom isn't sitting on the couch, Luna and her foster sister do OK together for a few hours at a time. Crate trained, knows basic commands, doing well on learning leash and car manners but it's a work in progress Luna is available through Guardians of the Green Mile (www.gotgm.org) of Portage, IN. Application can be found here: https://www.jotform.us/form/43196636952162Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc. We are a group of individuals that have come together to save the lives of animals that are in danger of being euthanized. We raise funds to fully vet the animals and to provide them with a stable home until they are adopted. All of the dogs in our Rescue are in Foster homes while they are looking for their forever family. The only time we put a dog in boarding is for a Foster to go on vacation if another Foster is not able to care for them. We appreciate your taking the time to fill out the application to adopt one of our Guardians of the Green Mile pets. The questions that we ask are to only find the right fit for all of our dogs and the families that will be adopting them. Adoption donation is $300.00 for dogs over 1 year old and $350 with a $50.00 spay / neuter deposit for puppies/dogs under 1 year old. Story
KC Miller is the best good boy! He initially came to us in January of 2021 from an overcrowded shelter when he was put on the euthanasia list. He was adopted out and had a dad who loved him very, very much. Imagine our shock and sadness when we recently got a call from Gary Animal Control that they had KC Miller! Unfortunately, his dad had passed away. So terribly sad, and so devastating for KC. But thank goodness for microchips, as they were able to contact us and we went and got him out of AC immediately! So now we are once again trying to find this guy a forever home. Back in 2021, he was a husky's husky. What do we mean by that? No dog, and I mean NO DOG, has ever been a bigger escape artist (in our experience) than KC. He had to be supervised at all times. Oh, the stories we could tell (like the time he got out of the yard and wandered into a stranger's home as they were bringing groceries in from the car, just walked in like he owned the place!) Now that he has matured some (he will be 5 years old this summer), he seems to have settled down quite a bit and doesn't seem quite as keen on adventures - which doesn't mean he wouldn't go on one if he was given the opportunity :) He is just as friendly with people and with other dogs as he ever was. When he was fostered with us initially, he used to go to doggy daycare and he loved it! Now he is fostered with other dogs and we've had him at adoption events with other dogs and he's still just as happy. Probably a bit TOO interested in the kitties, though. He's a very, very sweet boy. KC is incredibly smart and affectionate to boot. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. His adoption fee is $250.

Story
Meet Bear! Bear spent his whole life with a family. Unfortunately he was hit by a car and his family couldn’t afford the care needed to save him. A shelter stepped up to do the surgery, but in an overcrowded shelter, healing was not going well. Bear was pulled by Traveling Tails and has been in a foster home in Indianapolis ever since. From his foster: Bear is a one and a half year-old handsome Husky mix with eyes that will melt your heart. He weighs 58 lbs. He has the Husky personality – playful, friendly and super-smart. I have been fostering Bear for about 4 months as he recovers from a broken leg after being hit by a vehicle. It has been a tough journey and he has been amazing through all of it. His leg is healed. I have not yet let him go 100% on the leg. He needs a little more time to get the muscles back in his leg. We do go for about a mile walk twice a day. I also let hm play with other dogs for about 30 minutes. Bear wants to be with his people - he will follow you from room to room or stay by your side when working or watching TV. He will let you know when he wants to play, go out to potty or just needs some loving. When he wants loving, he with just lay on you or at least try. None of these behaviors are all the time. He definitely has energy that will only get greater as his mobility improves. Bear will thrive with an active family. He loves human interaction and should not be left alone for long periods of time every day. He would be best suited for a family who will regularly take him for hikes and walks in parks. He travels in cars well. A secure yard is a must. Bear would enjoy time outside, playing fetch with his family. Bear is getting better around moving cars , but still fears trucks. so the ideal home would be on a quiet street. Bear is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. Bear has been clear by the vets. He will have another set of x-rays in a few weeks to give him the all clear. Vetting will be covered by the rescue until medically cleared by the vet when he is healed. He is currently in Indianapolis but can be transported to his perfect adopter.
