Story
Meet Jake! Jake is gorgeous Husky/Shepherd Mix that will not stop smiling at you! He arrived at the PCH facility very nervous but warmed up really fast. Jake loves the outdoors and loves his toys. He is just excited to eventually go to a loving and understanding home. All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Dogs over six-months of age are heartworm tested. When adopting, we will ensure that you receive copies of veterinary and microchip records. If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile. After we review your completed survey we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. We're primarily a volunteer organization, so we appreciate your patience. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sundays and Mondays and will not be processing any applications on that day. Do get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). Counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and leash to pick up. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. PCH supports a 21-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we are not able to provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities! Story
Anna is a red Siberian husky and she is an absolute angel, but I may be biased as her foster mom. She has been very friendly with adults, kids, cats, and other dogs. Anna loves going on walks and she does very well on a slip lead leash. Anna loves toys and enjoys playing fetch. Anna can get a little bored sometimes and does best with lots of walks, play, and/or exercise and mental stimulation. But she also loves taking her daily naps! Anna is crate trained as well. Anna is a little nervous of being pet but she is warming up to feeling safe with physical affection. Overall, Anna is a very friendly, calm, and happy dog and she would make a great addition to any family. Story
Mavis is a 4yr old Siberian Husky DOB 9/15/2019. She is a social butterfly and not shy at all. She rarely vocalizes which is surprising given the trademark husky howl. She will whimper and bark out of excitement while on leash to approach another dog. She loves playing with other dogs and would do great with a dog companion. She does well on leash with a no pull lead. She is housebroken and potty trained. If she licks your hand, that's her alert she wants to go outside or wants attention. She loves cuddling on the couch. She loves chewing on bones and playing fetch for a moment but tends to play with the other dogs rather than toy. She does well with dogs and cats but does need redirection at first when introduced to smaller dog/cat since she loves the play-chase. She has lived with a cat for almost a year and does great. She has lived with kids from toddler to teen and does great. She is very independent and tends to find a cool spot on tile, shade under tree, under kitchen table or couch to relax away from activity when tired. She does well in crate if needed but also does well roaming house when left alone. She would make a great addition! All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Story
Meet Syrena, a 5-month-old Husky/Golden Retriever mix who weighs 28 pounds. Named after the enchanting mermaid from Pirates of the Caribbean, Syrena has truly come out of her shell since she first started her journey with her foster family. Syrena is making excellent progress with house training and is comfortable in her crate, especially when it's in the same room as her humans. She enjoys a range of activities, from running around the house and yard to playing with toys and other dogs. Her playful nature shines when she's fetching, chewing on bones, or engaging with her beloved squeaky balls. Initially timid, Syrena now loves every member of her foster family and shows her affection with sweet puppy kisses. While she may take a few minutes to warm up to new people, her curiosity soon gets the best of her, and she eagerly joins in the fun with her foster dog siblings. She does well with kids, who just need to understand that she might take a bit longer to feel fully comfortable. With patience and gentle introductions, she becomes a fantastic playmate for her new human siblings. Syrena is treat-motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement, which helps her feel more comfortable and confident. Her foster mom shares that Syrena absolutely loves water and enjoys playing in her swimming pool, making her a perfect camping or boating buddy. Watching her toss her squeaky balls around and having the time of her life is pure joy. Family walks are another favorite activity for Syrena, and she does great on a leash with very minimal pulling. Her foster mom describes her as a happy and playful pup who entertains herself well and thrives on both playtime and cuddles. With continued time and patience, Syrena is set to become a wonderful addition to her new forever family. If you're looking for a loving and playful companion who adores water and squeaky toys, Syrena is the perfect match for you. This blossoming mermaid is ready to share her love and joy with a family that will cherish her.  Her minimum adoption fee is $325 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
