Story
Zara is a cute young husky mix with a playful and affectionate nature, though she is usually scared of new situations and people. Once she has learned to trust her humans, she's very affectionate and loving with them. She's is great with most dogs and plays with dogs of all sizes at daycare, but can occasionally be dog-selective if the mood hits her. Zara tries to play with the cats in her foster home, but will eventually leave them alone when they don't reciprocate. She already knows sit, down, and automatically sits at doors. Zara's ideal home would be one where she gets regular attention, exercise, and brain stimulation, and lots toys (she likes all manner of toys). Zara would prefer a canine companion to help her learn to navigate new situations. Because of Zara's enthusiastic tendencies, Zara would do best in a home with children over 8yrs of age.

Story
Hi I'm Chloe, a beautiful 2 year old Husky German Shepard mix. I am scared of a lot of things in the world and need another dog to help be a bridge between myself and humans. I do not like to be handled and can be very timid. I am currently on behavior medications to help with my anxiety. I am potty and crate trained but I do have accidents when I am very scared. I definitely need another dog to help me out in the world. I love to play with my dog friends once I feel safe in an environment. I am very curious about cats and will bark at them sometimes, but I otherwise leave them alone. Because I am so nervous about the world and about humans, I would not do well in a home with children under 13 years of age. I like ice cubes, carrots treats, project toys, and appropriate chew toys. I LOVE food in general, especially human food, like pizza (pepperoni is the best!) and gravy.....I'm getting kind of spoiled with the finer food in life, while I work on being brave. My ideal home is one with another dog and a yard with a 6 foot fence. I am a flight risk when I get scared, so apartment living is not for me. I cannot be taken on regular walks since I will run if I get spooked. A home that will take things very slowly with me would be best. My adoption fee includes a personalized training program.

Story
I am a very low maintenance kind of dog. I'm very quiet and quite calm. I love being with my humans, especially during thunder and fireworks because it scares me. Otherwise, I'm the king of relaxation! I do well with children, other dogs and even cats! I'm a very calm guy. But, if a storm is coming through, or fireworks are going off, I need my human nearby. If I have a furry brother or sister who free-feeds and doesn't eat their breakfast or dinner, I might politely sneak a taste. Car rides give me shivers, but I couldn't be better when we get where we're going! Public or private events, I'm great and well behaved at both. House trained and proud. Finally, absolutely no crates for me! I promise I won't misbehave unless a storm is nearby and you're not here. If you aren't, I will try to dig at doors and the floor to get out and find you. Cats are my favorites—day-to-day low maintenance like me! I grew up with two brothers and have lots of dog buddies! I get along with most furry friends, but ask them for some space with my food. I may need to take the time to get to know other males sometimes, usually if they are intact or are also huskies. I absolutely love people—children, teens, adults, doesn't matter to me. They love me, and I want to meet them all if you give me permission! Not a huge toy pup, but I am always down for walks! If you like to hike too, even better! I'd do best with someone who can be home or with me consistently! Retirees, people who work from home, houses with stay-at-home spouses, or a human needing a special, furry emotional support friend to be by their side—all great matches for me. Constant attention not needed at all, in fact I keep to myself a lot. But your presence keeps me calm with scary thunder and fireworks! Adoption fee includes a training program specific to the dogs needs.

Highlights:- requires a 6 ft fenced in yard- Must be the only dog in the homeMeet Amber, a beautiful 44-pound Husky with a gentle, shy soul and the fluffiest coat that gives her a supermodel prance as she moves through the play yard. Due to her under-socialized past, Amber is still on the cautious side, preferring to keep her distance from humans. She’s learning, however, that treats bring her a little closer each time, slowly building trust with those around her. Amber is discovering the joy of play with other dogs, showing off adorable little skips and hops when she’s truly comfortable. She enjoys the company of dogs both large and small, though she’s more of an observer than an active participant. With her soft coat, she’ll benefit from regular brushing to keep her looking and feeling her best. This sweet, fluffy girl is ready for a patient, loving family who understands her quiet nature and will help her continue blossoming in her new life. Perhaps you’re the one who can give Amber the stable, happy home she’s been waiting for! - - - - - Before being rescued, many of our dogs have had limited socialization, so they may need a bit of time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog`s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
We're looking for a pet-free home for our fur baby. Noble (or Nobi, as we call her) is a perfect house dog, but she does not get along with other animals. As we've expanded our family, we can no longer meet her needs. She's house trained and good on the leash (if other animals are not present). She's terrified of young children, but she's great with kids who can respect her space. Noble is in perfect health. She loves to play and snuggle. Change is hard for her, but she's very obedient and wants to please everyone. She does best when she has a safe place she can retreat to, such as a kennel, which we can provide.

Story
Koda has had two homes that we are aware of. The first was not suitable due to lack of space and very small children. He was adopted by a family member of ours and was cared for until our relative suffered a traumatic brain injury and could no longer be in her home. Koda has anxiety issues. He gets extremely nervous when left alone and becomes destructive. He needs a six foot fence and a constant companion. He does not like cats or small dogs but gets along well with our Golden Retriever. Koda is very food motivated. So far, he has been good with two older children in the household. Koda is leash trained and rides well in the car. We feel that Koda deserves a good permanent home. We are willing to provide current shots for Koda.

Story
Meet Jake, the exuberant and friendly pup who’s ready to bring joy and laughter into your life! With a tail that never stops wagging, Jake is always excited to greet new people and make friends everywhere he goes. His friendly demeanor extends to all dogs as well; he loves to play and snuggle with his furry companions, making him a perfect addition to a multi-pet household. Jake shares his home with two wonderful kids aged 12 and 14, and he thrives on their energy and affection. He is a loving and playful pup, although he can be a bit mouthy in his excitement, so he’s best suited for families who can guide his playful nature. Jake enjoys his walks and walks well on a leash, making outings an enjoyable experience for everyone. This fun-loving boy knows how to sit and is eager to learn more, especially when there are tasty treats involved! His mischievous side comes out when he’s on the prowl for a good toy or perhaps a shoe to sneak away with, so keeping items out of reach is a must! Jake is very food motivated, and it’s wise to keep all food off the counters to avoid any clever heists. While Jake prefers to be by your side and may not love being in a cage when you’re gone, he’s a work in progress, and with patience and training, he will continue to adapt. His love for toys means he’s always ready for playtime, and his funny antics are sure to keep you entertained.   CO foster update: Jake is a fun, loving, and happy boy that is a ball of energy.  He loves all people, big and small.  As a true husky, Jake is mischievous and will grab your shoes, dish towels, etc. and counter surf. The good news is we are working on his manners! He does know how to sit for a treat and before being fed. He is very food motivated.  He knows his name and comes easily. Jake loves to run around the yard with his ball and may occasionally drop it for you so that you can throw it.  He is being fostered with female and male dogs. His foster siblings do not know what to make of his energy so they steer clear of him for now. He just wants to play, play, play. Another dog in the house should match is playfulness.   Jake sleeps in a crate by our bed at night and does not make a peep or need to go out. He does not like the crate when we are away so, someone who is home most of the time would be a great fit. He is let out multiple times a day but, has proven that he can hold it for 6-7 hours with no accidents at night. He has not had an accident in the house during the day.   Jake would benefit from a family who will work on his manners while showing him all the love in the world. In just a few days of fostering him, we can already see some improvement and he is slowly learning his manners and life in a house.  Is this fun-loving boy your match?  This husky is a lover! He loves to be around people and will bury his head into your chest looking for love. He has done great with other dogs, and even got to hang out with a baby cow!  Jake was rescued from New Mexico. He was found covered in oil. Unfortunately they were unable to get all of the oil out of his fur so he was shaved.  Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2160198##

My name is Wilbert, I was taken in by a loving family who due to some issues had to move to a different home. With everything going on they are no longer able to take care of me. While I know they love me, they want to give me the best chance to thrive. I am a loving, energetic pup who needs a good home. I love long walk, active play and cuddles. Not a big fan of kennels or cages. I love playing with children, and everyone. I have not really been around other dogs, as in my last home there were not a lot of other dogs. Im hopeful to find a good family!

Xena is a beautiful sweet husky. She is 8 years old. She spent her whole life with an adult owner who recently passed away. She does not have much exposure to young children/babies. She is good with other dogs. She is living with me while I try to find her a new home and has done well with my children. She loves to go on walks several times a day but naps a lot during the day as well. She understands commands to sit, stay, and shake. She loves belly rubs. It is very important to me that Xena go to a loving home as she was my uncle's dog and he loved her more than anything else in this world.

Story
Hi, I’m Winona! I’m looking for a loving and patient home. Other dogs make me uncomfortable, so I’ll need slow and respectful introductions. I also prefer a home with children who will understand and respect my space. I may be protective of my food or toys, so working with a qualified trainer is recommended. It might take me some time to adjust to a new environment, but with patience and love, I promise I’ll settle in.
