Dante was adopted at 8 months old as a puppy. He’s now 5 years old. We’re looking for a home that has lot of space for him to run around, give him lots of love and attention, and take him of lots of walks. He’s very playful and has lots of energy, but he’s also a big cuddler! We’re also looking for an open adoption, such as monthly picture updates.

Everest is a very happy 3yo husky. She loves kids, and is always happy to greet my 2nd grader when she comes home from school. She is home and crate trained. She knows some commands like, place, sit, and down. Loves to go on hikes. We’re moving abroad and it’s very hard to find a place that accepts pets.

Story
Hello, I'm Sahara. I'm a young Husky mix who was found as a stray. My history is a mystery but the person fostering me said I'm a good girl. I do great except for chickens and goats- so no livestock for me. I'm gentle and love attention.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2245022##

Farley is a sweetheart and loves kids. He need a good loving home where he can get the love attention he deserves asap. He has become very aggressive with the other two dogs and recently broke into the chicken run and killed all our chickens. I can no longer provide a home for him nor can I risk him seriously injuring my other two small/med sized dogs.

Story
Zoey is a loveable 13 year old Husky that has been with me since she was a puppy. My husband and I got her in Texas from a a breeder in 2011 and has been a lovely companion and my best friend since day 1. Zoey was born with incontinence and has had several surgeries to try and correct the issue, but none have been successful, so she will need an experienced and patient new owner who can handle her needs. She gets along with everyone from new people all the way to cats and kids. She will welcome you with loving kisses as soon as you walk through the door and will be by your side like a little shadow. Zoey is house trained, but is also used to wearing diapers for her incontinence in the house as well. She does well on walks and is very curious and stops to smell all of the flowers. She has also been crate trained since she was a puppy, as she can be a little terror when left alone for too long. No history of biting. My husband and I have recently separated and it’s hard for just myself.

Story
Loki is a purebred Akita, almost 3 years old come March. We got him as a puppy. Loki is good with cats and children. We are uncertain how he is around other dogs than the one other we have in our home. Loki attended Art of the Dog's 3 week board and train program. He uses an e-collar to help maintain and correct his behaviors. So Loki's adopter would need to be okay with that. He is neutered and has no health problems. Loki is a dominant dog (alpha) and would do best in a home where the family understands his needs and breed. We love Loki but we need to rehome him because we are moving due to a job and the housing community we will be moving into does not allow Akitas. He is unsure of meeting new people at first but warms up eventually. Would do best in a home with a fenced in yard.
