Story
🐶 🐕 SKITTLES Female 2 1/2 years, 52 lbs & AVAILABLE Husky / BC mix – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 SKITTLES was a great mom to her 10, yes 10, awesome Sweets and Treats puppies, and now she is ready for her forever home. Once her babies were adopted SKIT really began to shine. She has come a long way from the pancaking, pregnant, and shy gal to the protective, correcting mom, to a friendly, outgoing gal we foster parents love. She gets along well with people and other dogs. She’s been fine around the cats, but with her husky bloodlines we’d still caution against a home with cats. SKITTLES is about 2 1/2years of age, 52 lbs., with a thick medium coat. SKITTLES is crate and house trained. She has not pottied in the house since her “mom” days. She is now very comfortable in her crate (home and travel) during down and overnight sleep time. She knows “crate” and willingly goes in on her own as she knows it’s either meal or treat time. She knows sit, does ok with down, and has excellent recall even when distracted by people or dogs at the park next door. We are working on “off” as she likes jumping up (gently) on people, and does her share of licking the counters clean (we ensure no food is left for her to get) but responds well to direction. SKITTLES, after proper introductions, does well with people and other dogs. Once she trusts, she trusts completely. Treats and patience are the way to SKITTLES’s heart. She sits politely for pets, but she is not overbearing. When you stop she’ll find a dog bed or a spot on the floor and patiently wait for the next round...and the next…and the next. SKITTLES is happy inside or outside, wherever she has companionship. Sun, rain, snow…nothing deters her. She is happiest when her people accompany her outside (she’ll chase a ball or play keep away with a stick) and is almost as happy playing with her foster siblings. She especially enjoys Perkins, who plays to her energy level. She’d prefer a “Perkins-like” four legged companion to help her burn off energy, but would be fine as an only dog if you include yourself in all her activities, and she in yours. The more SKITTLES is included in your activities the quicker the bonding will occur. SKITTLES is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about SKITTLES, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. SKITTLES is fostering north of Corning in Tehama County, CA.

Story
Apply to adopt by clicking on the link below   http://www.wagsandwhiskerspetrescue.com/adopt.html This girl is a beautiful husky/shepherd mix with a smooth shepherd coat.  She is mostly quiet and a little shy at first.  She warms quickly to affection.  She wants company, from humans and from other dogs, and is happiest when she's near her companions.  She's very athletic and walks well on a leash when her energy is worn off a bit.  She's lived outside in a kennel with her foster, but is very keen to be in the house, and much prefers relieving herself outside than in her kennel.  Her foster mom can answer questions and tell you more about this sweet girl.   Thank you so much for looking into wags and whiskers for your next family member. All of our pets are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm tested if over 6 months old and will be spayed or neutered before being allowed to go home.  Unfortunately, we don't always know the background of each dog. Some were dumped, abandoned in an empty house, left tied to a tree, picked up by animal control as strays, or simply unwanted by their owners. Please take into consideration that owning a pet is a 10+ year commitment and discuss with all members of your family before submitting an application to adopt.  If you have already filled out an online adoption application with our organization in the last 6 months you do not need to fill out another application. Please call or email us to schedule an appointment.  530-895-8888 If you are interested in meeting this pet please apply to adopt at http://www.wagsandwhiskerspetrescue.com/adopt.html if the pet is still available for adoption and you are approved to adopt we will contact you to set up a meet and greet appointment.    November 6, 2024, 11:54 pm

Story
Roman is a comeback king looking for the perfect family to embark on a new life adventure with! When his pregnant mom showed up at the animal shelter, there were no beds left, so Roman was born on the floor of the shelter director’s office. He spent the first year of his life in shelters, but he’s now living with a foster family in Sacramento, where he has been since August 2024. After so long in the shelter, Roman is anxious around new people, but he loves dogs and gets along great with cats. He loves to play, wrestle, and zoom with his foster sister—a mastiff twice his size. He is incredibly gentle. He never bites or growls, even when he is scared, and he doesn’t chase or bother the cats at his foster home. He likes to play with toys and bones, which he collects and stashes in his bed, and is great at self-directing. Rome is house-trained and crate-trained. He walks gently on a leash without pulling. He’s a smart boy who loves training (and treats!), and he is learning some basic commands. He would love to learn more tricks with you! Roman has a great mix of athleticism and chill. He would love to run or hike, play in the woods or at the beach, or learn agility games. He bounces around the yard like a gazelle, but the best part is, he’s also perfectly happy hanging around the house watching Netflix. Rome would do best in a situation where he can play with other dogs and where he isn’t forced into close proximity with strangers. He is fine being left on his own for a little while, but he hasn’t been tested alone for a full day. Like all the best dogs, Rome can be a bit mischievous. While not destructive, if Roman is bored or left alone too long, he may check your counters for snacks or hide your shoes in his bed. He has been very receptive to corrections around this behavior, though, so with some patience, it’s likely he will outgrow this. With a little patience, Roman will show you that he is a sweet, goofy, loyal dog who loves to play, run, and snuggle. Roman cannot wait to meet you, even if he’s going to be a little shy about it  November 6, 2024, 11:54 pm

Story
Hi, I'm Clyde! I’m a spirited pup who was born in January 2022 in Kern County, California, and eventually made my way to the Wags and Whiskers shelter in Chico. Back then, I was called Silverado! I found a family, but after two months, they returned me with only a brief note saying I was a bit of a “handful.” I soon found a new home, though, and I’ve been with my current family since June 2022. This family has really taken the time to get to know me, understanding all my quirks. I’m a loyal, cautious, and very cuddly dog who loves getting attention—sometimes, I’ll even nudge my way in to make sure I get it! I can be reserved but also a bit goofy at times. I’m loyal to my people, and I love to be close. Sometimes, maybe *too* close! Here’s a little more about me: I’m comfortable wearing a harness and leash, and I enjoy going on truck rides or other fun adventures. I know basic commands like sit, down, shake, and “wait” and “okay” when it’s my turn to go through a doorway or eat. I’m crate-trained, house-trained, and I’ve even got my own “quiet time” from 1-4 pm daily. I’ve got a unique personality that’s been shaped by my breed mix—I'm 48% Husky, with a little Lab, Terrier, and more in the mix. This means I’m a little vocal, especially when something surprises me or when I’m ready for breakfast! I’m affectionate but prefer to have my people all to myself. Sharing with another dog, especially the other dog in my current home, just hasn’t worked out. I’m happiest outside, especially around water, and I love to chase butterflies or just hang out with my humans. I do fine around cats and chickens, and I get along with kids as long as they’re respectful of my space. I adore the family’s 4-year-old son, though I can be a little shy or occasionally seek extra love from him. I’ve been told I’m not the best fit for babies or toddlers. I’m also up-to-date on my vaccines, heartworm, and tick prevention. I go to the Durham Vet Clinic, where they say I’m healthy and ready for my next adventure! A few things to know about me: I get a bit obsessed with reflections and shadows, so teasing me with those isn’t great for me. I’m competitive with a ball but might not always bring it back. And though I’m a work in progress, I promise I’m worth it. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who prefers to be your one-and-only, I could be your perfect match!November 7, 2024, 10:38 pm
