Story
Meet Leo! Leo has been DNA tested and we know that he is a Siberian Husky/Great Pyrenees/Mountain Cur mix. He has a beautiful soft golden coat with golden brown eyes. Leo is a very sweet boy who loves to be with his humans, but he is leery of men until he gets to know them. He does overcome this fear with the help of treats and patience. Next thing you know, he will be your best friend. At the shelter, Leo was known as the play yard rockstar because he gets along so well with other dogs. He knows several commands, such as "sit, "down, "shake, and "leave it". Leo will need a 6 foot privacy fenced backyard and a playful canine companion in his new home. Leo can't wait to meet you!

Meet Cheyanne! She is a beautiful Husky/Retriever mix. She is not quite a year old yet and about 40 pounds. She is a bundle of energy and snuggles. Cheyanne plays well with other dogs her size and loves children. She is still quite a puppy, so children 8 years and older are preferred. Cheyanne is learning and practicing her manners everyday. She is treat motivated and eager to please and is looking for an active family dedicated to helping her continue to learn and thrive. She loves to play with stuffed animals, squeaky toys and chew her nylabones. She is crate/house trained, spayed, up to date on all vaccinations and microchipped. She's also been given monthly heartworm/flea prevention. If you would like to meet this adorable girl and make her part of your family, please complete an application at https://forrescue.net/dog-application/ Cheyanne is located in Decatur, Alabama with transport available to some areas. Friends of Rescue requires a virtual home visit and vet reference prior to all adoptions. All Friends of Rescue animals are indoor family members.

Story
Here's Yukon! He is a beautiful white husky with startling blue eyes who showed up as a stray in a rural area. His foster family already had three dogs, a foster dog, three cats, and five children, but they felt like they couldn't leave him out in the woods to freeze, starve, or be hit by a car. so they took him in. He is being well taken care of in his foster home but their 15-year-old dog doesn't like him, so he is mostly confined to a small area in the living room. As you can imagine, this is difficult for an active breed like a husky! Yukon is being very tolerant and patient in this situation but he would love someone to adopt him ASAP so he can run and play as much as he needs to. Yukon gets along well with other dogs. He is house-trained and sleeps in his kennel all night as long as a human sleeps in the same room with him. He loves chew toys and will chase a tennis ball and bring it back. He isn't used to walking on a leash but is learning quickly. He would be a great hiking companion for an active person. His appointment to be neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped is coming up soon. Yukon is being fostered in the Huntsville, AL area. He can't wait to meet you!

Story
Hi, I'm Echo!! I'm a strikingly handsome guy, about 6 years old and truth be told I do have a bit of a silly side with my close friends. I'm even game for a bit of a pool party on a hot summer day! I've been here at the Ark for few years now because you see I do have a few peculiarities that make it a bit challenging to find the perfect home for me. I have boundaries so I tend to guard things and I take a while to get to know and trust new people. Even though I can be a bit of a handful, I'm not mean natured and just love a good head scratch and belly rub from my friends! The perfect home for me would be one that I could have it all to myself and my adult people, no kids or cats please! As much as I do love the Ark and how great they care for me, I really do want to have a home of my own. I just need a family that is experienced with special dogs like me and I promise I'll work hard to prove just how fabulous I am!! *The Adoption fee for Echo is reduced/covered by adoption sponsorship donations When I arrived at the Ark, we played the 'guess what breed I am' game, the most guesses were that I'm a Husky / Catahoula mix, but I know that's just a guess - I know what I am, I'm a Purebred Mix-Breed!! Ark Rescue dogs are available for adoption to homes in the Alabama and Tennessee Valley area only. We do require a secure fenced-in yard to adopt our larger dogs.October 28, 2024, 10:42 am

Story
Meet Larry! Larry is a gorgeous boy with one brown and one blue eye. He is stunning in person no photographs can capture. A beautiful blend of exoticness, with a gorgeous coat of dark and light color. He is estimated at a year and a half old, 55 pounds. Larry is learning about a whole new world coming from being outside all the time. He is good around people, other dogs. Larry loves to run and play with his fur foster siblings and he gets along great with them all. He does have energy, but he gets to the point where he plays for a period and then calms and enjoys laying around unless his curiosity is aroused by something interesting. He does like toys, and he gets excited when he sees rabbits in the yard. He does not like the sound of gunfire in the country or fireworks. It scares him, so definitely needs to be safe during those seasons. Larry, we believe has only road in the car for his vet visits so it's not he is familiar with, but learning among other things. Larry would love a life where he would get more attention and love from his humans. He has been great around adults. We have not gotten him around any kids thus far, so older teens would be best. He is not mean at all. He is timid and shy for the most part and does need time to warm up around new people. He does love to play if he feels safe. We believe Larry would be fine as the only dog with getting all the attention or with another dog compatible with him in age and energy. Larry does fine in a crate for a short period, but would prefer a stay-at-home family member and a large fenced in yard he could pal around in. He will bark at a stranger when approached but only to get their attention. He is friendly with everyone he has been around thus far and only barks at the appropriate times. Larry has no strange or silly behaviors; all in all, he is just a good boy who wants all the love he can get. He is a healthy thriving boy. He is very food motivated. He will sit for a treat. That is the only command we have taught him thus far. He will walk on a leash if needed but he is perfectly content in the backyard. He would require leash and obedience training. He is friendly and does not jump on you but wants to be close to you. He does not bark unless he has a reason. The perfect family for Larry would be a gentle family who wants to give him patience, lots of love with or without older kids that are not too hyper. A home with a fenced-in yard he can enjoy. To adopt Larry go to our website to complete our pre-adoption application https://www.southernskiesrescue.org/adoption-application Larry has been neutered, up-to-date and will be microchipped.
