Story
History and A Note from the Foster: Hi, I’m Teddie! I’m almost 12 years young and on the lookout for a very special adopter—someone who will love me exactly as I am. For the first eight years of my life, I was used only for breeding, and I wasn’t in great shape. But then my foster mom and an amazing rescue stepped in, cleaned me up, and gave me all the care I needed. Four years ago, my last rotten teeth were removed—but don’t worry, I eat everything just fine! Kibble, canned food, crunchy treats… if it’s food, I’m in. Since I have no teeth, my tongue likes to hang out, which everyone says is pretty adorable. When I was first rescued, I was terrified of everything. I’ve come a long way, but I still startle easily—especially since I can’t hear. I’d be happiest in a calm, quiet home where life moves at an easy pace. I’m learning that pets and snuggles are wonderful, but I’m more of a “sit nearby” kind of girl during the day (though at night, I love to snuggle in bed—our little secret!). I’m even starting to warm up to visitors and will sometimes ask for attention, as long as they’re gentle and patient. I’m also making great progress with potty training. I do have a routine—meals first, then #2—so someone who understands my schedule will help me succeed. If you’re kind, patient, and have a big heart for a little dog with a lot of love to give, I just might be your girl. I’m ready to spend my golden years with someone who will cherish me forever. ❤️

Story
History: Phil is a handsome little fella who arrived to rescue recently and immediately warmed our hearts. He is officially ready to start his journey in finding his forever home and hopes to find them soon! A Note from the Foster: Hello! I would love to introduce you to Phil. Phil is a five month old Havanese. He came from a life of no human contact so he is learning each and every single day just how wonderful life can be while not in a kennel all day. Because of his background he does not want to be touched, and snuggled just yet, but I know it won't be long because of his big personality. Phil is so observant and just a little shadow. He always wants to know what is going on and see what is happening. He lays at my feet when I work or sit, and follows me wherever I go....unless he trying to get into mischief. He loves to play with the other foster puppy in the house, and also loves the big resident lab. The cats are no problem for him either, he is interested in them, but never pursues or chases them. Toys are his all time favorite. He is rarely ever without one with him. He makes sure that they never have to stay in the kennel without him, he takes them all out each time. He isn't a big fan of his kennel, he doesn't bark, but likes to dig and mess up his blankets, but no accidents in there. He sleeps all night without a break and knows in the morning to go out for his business. He is very soulful. His eyes are so gentle and inquisitive, his nose adorable and even though he probably needs a haircut soon, you can still see how very handsome he is. He is happy, healthy, cute as ever and would love to have a home where he can finally trust and love forever.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!         Trilby is a dainty little Havanese with raccoon markings, big feelings, and an even bigger love for her people—once she decides you’re worthy of her tiny royal heart. She’s only been in her foster home for a couple weeks and is still figuring out this whole “world” thing, which, frankly, is a lot. So far, she’s decided that 1–2 humans at a time is the ideal audience, and women are her preferred fan club. If she picks you as her person, she becomes a full-on Velcro shadow who curls up with you on the couch, follows you around the house, and peeks over the back of the sofa like a nervous-but-curious woodland creature waiting for pets. With new people (especially men), Trilby likes to put on her “tiny guard dog” act—growling, barking, and giving her best “absolutely not” face. But under all that suspicion is a sweet girl who desperately wants to feel safe. She’s timid, skittish, and still learning that loud noises, teenagers, and general household chaos do not, in fact, signal the end of days. But give her time and patience, and she starts to bloom. She’s beginning to discover the magic of toys (crinkly ones are her favorite), has learned the joy of zooming around the house, and occasionally takes heroic leaps off the last few stairs because she is dramatic like that. She rides well in the car, does great in her crate, and loves cuddling with her foster mom and the resident 13-year-old girl. Trilby will need a fenced yard, a quiet home, and someone who understands that trust takes time. She’s still working on potty training and basic confidence, and she may always be wary of new people—but for the special person she bonds with, she is pure sweetness, devotion, and couch-snuggling perfection. If you’re looking for a gentle, quirky little companion who will love you fiercely once you earn her trust, Trilby might just be your girl. **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.  T his puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours, or your application will be considered void.  We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.   Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is to place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application. We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs. He is neutered, fully vaccinated and has good teeth. He is very shy when you first meet him and will take time to warm up but when he does look out. Irving will need a fenced in yard as he may run and is very shy. He loves to play with toys, people and other dogs. He uses a puppy door to go outside to potty and loves the outside sometimes he doesn't like to come back in unless you go out and get him. Irving is smart, funny and has a foot fetish. He will catch them when you put them up on something and then lets them go. Also, likes to nibble at your ears, neck or your hair but will not bite or hurt you. Irving would be good with shared walls as he rarely barks. He likes to sleep in bed with me and his doggie friends and likes to nap in a puppy bed. Adoption fee: $695

Story
Hi! My name is Nutcracker and I am from Minnesota! From his foster: Nutcracker is a playful and adaptable dog. He is patient and accepting of kids - even ones who want to hold him, play tag, or give big hugs. With other dogs, he is aware but not defensive or aggressive and quickly gets into play time! His foster home is on a lake and he has been thriving in the MN winter, ripping across the snow and ice. With all his fluff, he's well insulated and enjoys outdoor fun.

These pups are in Hudson, Wisconsin too!

Story
History and A Note from the Foster: Meet Shay, the most petite and charming Bichon you'll ever meet. She had a traumatic past and is working really hard to overcome that! When she first came into our home she would hide behind furniture and shake. We saw no signs of happiness and no signs of confidence. Shay has begun to blossom but will take a patient home to continue this progress. She is proving us wrong constantly and really is a happy gal! Shay has so many terrific qualities - crate trained and doesn't make a peep overnight, potty trained with consistent breaks, playful and goofy with other dogs and never aggressive with humans or other dogs. She is even starting to yip and play bow at me in the yard! I also get the most aggressive tail wag from her when I come home from work or let her out in the morning! She has not been around kids yet. While I know she would be gentle with them, they might scare her a bit if they chase her. Shay had a neglectful past which makes her fearful of humans. Her grooming and dental was also neglected for years. She did have 15 teeth pulled, but now she has the cutest snaggle tooth that her top lip is constantly getting caught on. It's one of my favorite things about her! Due to this she would love to eat wet food, or if that's not feasible you can soak her food in milk or water. She does take anxiety meds with her meals which will need to be continued as well. Her rust-colored fur around her paws and mouth is from nervous licking, however her nervous licking has really dwindled down! There are many "remedies" out there for rust colored fur. It's nothing bad, it just has to do with what's in her saliva. Some allergy testing might help as well! The perfect home for Shay MUST have: -No expectations for her. She may come out of her shell after 1 week or 1 year. It's impossible to know when (or if) she will become a "normal" dog. She may always be shy and progress isn't always linear. It has really been a blessing seeing her gain confidence and show joy. It's important to celebrate small successes! A home with experience with shy or shut down dogs is a huge bonus. She does not seek affection or touch from humans yet, however she has started to approach if I have a treat and beg for human food alongside the other dogs :) -Another dog (or two) around her size. She will look to your dog to not only be her safety blanket but also her teacher. Shay has 3 foster siblings. One is her size and shares her quiet temperament so they get along wonderfully and love to cuddle. The others are also the same size but a bit more aggressive with their play style and not quite the right fit for Shay long-term. Shay is always trying to play with her foster siblings! She play bows and spins in circles yipping in attempt to play. -A fenced in yard. Shay is still fearful of the leash and a walk is still too overstimulating. She loves to run around a fenced in yard as her primary source of exercise and is doing so fantastic with potty training! She has not had an accident inside in months. If you are looking for a quiet companion that needs some more patience and TLC then Shay is your girl. She really deserves the world and all we want to see is her be happy!

Good with dogs,
Story
History: Nicholas is a super sweet boy who arrived to rescue in desperate need of a second chance. He is such a handsome and striking boy who is ready to meet his forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: Meet Jolly Ol’ Nicholas! Nicholas is a 4-year-old Bichon (foster family calls him “Benny” as foster dad thinks he looks like a Benedict Nicholas) with the waggliest tail and the sweetest, softest heart. This handsome little fluff is the definition of easygoing: he’s quiet, gentle, and loves nothing more than to hang out near his humans—without being needy. Nicholas is already a superstar at going potty outside, even in the snow! He’s is not a frequent barker and sleeps peacefully through the night. When you head upstairs or leave for work, he may give a tiny whimper at first, but then he settles right down with his toys and Kong with snacks, happy and content. His vibe is chill, a little shy, and incredibly tender. Sometimes he puts himself to bed by curling up in his kennel for a cozy rest. He’s pretty good at: Eating food (a hungry boy is quite trainable!) Car rides Walks on leash Doing his business outside on a schedule (he’s starting to show signs of making circles and showing extra excitement which means it’s time to go) Bathes and brushes well Kennel trained (will crawl in to sleep or relax) Bonding with humans (He absolutely adores both men and women equally and will lick your hand!) Cheerfully greets dogs on walks Self-soothing when you need to run errands or go to work Nicholas can by shy with new people and new environments—he’s simply a calm, joyful little guy who wags his whole back end when people return. He came from a tough situation, but now that he’s safe and adored, he’s blooming into the affectionate sweetheart he was always meant to be. If you’re looking for a quiet, gentle, tail-wiggling companion who brings peace and joy wherever he goes, Jolly Ol’ Nicholas is your boy. 🐾🌹

Story
History: Ailani is a beautiful girl who needed a second chance at a good life. She quickly wriggled her way into our hearts with how sweet and loving she is and she would make a great addition to a lucky home of her own soon! A Note from the Foster: Ailani is adjusting to her new life very quickly! She is starting to show a lot of personality and energy. She loves being where the people are and where the action is and she gets very excited to see you. She gets along with our other dogs and often initiates play. She has a lot of love to give and loves belly rubs. She does calm down quickly when appropriate, and settles in nicely in the evening when we're watching TV or reading. She is doing pretty well with potty training, however, she doesn't show a lot of signs of when she has to go, but when let out regularly, she does great. We have learned she is not a big fan of her kennel. So we have set up a bed next to ours and she does great there at night - she stays put and sleeps the whole night through. However, during the day, when nobody is home, we do put her in the kennel and give her treats and toys and she seems to do ok. She is very happy to see you when you get home! Besides her current bad haircut, Ailani is overall a great dog and companion. She will bring joy to most households.
